@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTOhi there.. Hello, after long time.. I'm back with SUPER CURIOSITY on reverse camera wiring diagrams. Why are you not making any videos about backup reverse camera in cars? These days many comes pre-installed with rear camera. Hence, the curiosity arise for the need to understand how the camera sends signal to the radio unit, etc etc??? In fact, in general, reverse camera has 5 wires with one wire being a shielded ground, one is camera power, one is camera ground, one is video power and another is video ground. Total 5 wires. So, can you please immediately make new videos on these 5 wires??? Please 🙏🙏🙏

@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO can you explain the process of you getting paid for your diagnosis of the PCM. How do you get paid for your time when parts have to be ordered and they might take days. Nobody is really offering this in my area and I would like to leave my brother's shop and offer this exact skills to shops within a 50 mile radius. There's about 80 to 130 shops I can reach around my area. I've been thinking about opening this lane for myself recently but haven't taken the leap.

When C2 and the alternator plug were both disconnected I would have made sure pin 1 of alternator wiring wasn't shorted to ground. When everything is connected and the computer sees a problem with a circuit they sometimes shut the circuit down to protect themselves. This scenario happened to me a few times on Chrysler products.
@russellhltn13962 ай бұрын
I came here to say the same thing. A short to ground could cause all of that and potentially kill the PCM.

Perfect diagnosis Eric. When you work on the Jeep, will it be smart to use OEM parts that are going to fail again or have the OEM been redesigned? If not, I'd use good aftermarket parts. There is always the salvage yard for PCM's. Way to go in tracing down the problem here. Newer vehicles are going with those "gas mileage" improvement ideas yet they don't justify the problems they create nor the expense.

That's a fun video, I like the way you think on your feet. I'm guessing that the wire (or the pcm driver circuit internally) was shorted to ground. I suppose one could completely exclude an external ground short by removing the connector at the pcm, then apply power through a test light at the PCM connector to prove the short was not in the wire between the PCM and the alternator. If downstream voltage doesn't jump up with that, something is draining it off downstream.

Great diag. Eric. For a moment there I thought there would be a break in the alternator control wire coming from the ECM.

Had a similar situation with and older Jaguar (2005ish) battery light was on because pcm was reporting low battery voltage but pcm was no longer outputting a field signal. I ended up rigging an old school ford regulator to it. Battery light was on but system was now charging. I probably could have rigged it better to shut off the battery light but that was way early in my learning diag career so I wasn’t very familiar with what the other circuits actually did. I remember I was always fearful of diagnosing pcm controlled alternators.😂😂😂

Also at the time I didn’t even think about pin fitment being a thing or checking for an open 🤦. It’s ok though, the car had sat in that shop for over a year and the owner of the car just wanted to be able to drive it around with dash lights on and all. 😂😂😂 he was really appreciative.

Couldn't you have jumped Pin 1 to battery power and just run full field all the time? Like before PCM control? Or will it overcharge/overvolt? Would have been informative to see an engine rev with it set to full field to see if it still regulates. The old "one-wire alternator" scheme. Save the guy the money and let him move on with life. Nice video. Remy has a good KZbin channel.

Hi Eric, would you please help me with something? I'll gladly pay you for your time and help. I'm big on the test don't guess motto. I recently had a customer bring me his 2019 Dodge Durango 3.6 with 65,000 miles that has a number 4 cylinder misfire only when you get on it and at 5500. It doesn't idle rough and no other codes. And when you let off the gas the misfire sometimes stays until the car idles down or it goes away instantly. If you drive it normal it will not misfire, and if your going 60 and floor it it also won't misfire. The misfire only happens when you slow down below 20mph then give it 3/4 throttle or more. He has changed the coil, spark plug, coil and injector with OEM parts. I swapped around the vvt and front phaser with each side and it still does the same thing. Would you please let me know what would do next? Or how I can figure this out? Thank you so much for your time and help.

Is there a way to disconnect the computer control of the alternator? My wife's 2013 Infiniti EX37's alternator quit charging. I made an appointment at the dealer to repair. The next morning, I connected a 25 amp charger to the battery to make sure I made it to the dealer. I also started the engine with the charger connected and tried to find out why the battery light was also on. Then I disconnected the charger and left to go to the dealer and the alternator was charging!! It hasn't caused a problem since then which was several years ago. However, recently I disconnected the battery ground cable sensor that is connected to the computer to control the alternator. Now, it always charges at 14 volts.

You explained very confusingly. First, you said that the control signal from the PCM to the alternator is PWM, and then you said it should send DC power as a signal. Obviously the latter is wrong. The signal is modulated depending on the electrical load. Get your data right. It is not rocket science. Maybe you talk too fast and think superficially.
