Wow easier than I thought is it the same process for the 2wd version only different I can tell it the shape of the cove on the back of the tranny o and it's been a while since 5th failed on my truck door think the aftermarket nut fix will work or do you think it caused to much wear not being tight for so long

I’ve got that same retainer on my truck, but I lost 5th last week. They said the only way that could happen was shearing the teeth out of the inside of the gear/main shaft but actually it was the 5th synchro snap ring on the countershaft that came off.

Definitely comes loose even with that fix been there done that and doing it again right now and will be a permanent fix this time I’m welding it

Step by step? Did you put it in gear when you tightened nut? Will it still spin the motor when cranking the nut?

Was there an output shaft seal in the tail housing? My trans is leaking gear oil between the trans and tcase. I’m wondering if maybe it’s overfilled

Hey bud would u be able to tell what trans I would have in my ram 2500? It’s the 5.9L gas old farmer original owner said 3500 I pulled the top off to look and see which one for a hurst short throw shifter and from their website it’s a NV4500 from looking at top of the cast

How many miles have you driven since this fix? And how well has it worked for you, I just did this fix on a 97 3500 2wd and it lasted a total of about 5-7 miles. Needing better help than I can provide i suppose...

Did you loose any transmission fluid when you opened up the transmission.

Feet slide onto your nut, cause it rides on your shaft. Worth watching to the end

I lost 5th gear is it ok to drive it to my mechanics shop which is an hour away or would you get a trailer?

The 12pt bolts are a mess. Replace them with Allen head bolts.

These transmissions are the biggest pieces of shit. I've done this fix 5 times because the damn thing comes loose every year. expect it to come apart.

People. Save your time. You absolutely do not need to pull the transfer case off. Just take your driveshafts out, unbolt tranny from crossmember and unbolt your tail shaft housing. Easy as that.
