52 yr old grandma here! This is my son's truck I lost him in 2019. I've spent 2 winters with no heat because none of my mechanic friends wanted to break the dash because of sentimental reasons. Thank you for the video! I did it myself aside from someone disconnecting the ac lines and helping me move the dash! Took me about a total of 3 hrs. I had to take a few breaks. You guys were great! By the way,,, I did NOT break the dash 💖

I'm officially feeling a little less manly as this took me 12 hours (although I did have a few trips to the auto parts store, but still…). Sorry to hear about your son - I hope his truck runs forever for you!

10 MM 8 MM T20 torx 7 mm 13 mm Phillips Flat head AC Line remover sizes 5/8” and 1/2” Was making my tool list, I figured I’d share. I already did this a couple years ago and asked my dad if I should swap out the evaporator while I was in there. He said if it ain’t broke, don’t change it. Later on that year, it started leaking in the cab. So I definitely recommend changing both when you’re in there 😂

Fantastic video. Standing ovation!! I have a 2005 Ram 1500 I rescued from NJ and the A/C is not working. Given the neglect of the previous owner, I am considering rebuilding the entire HVAC system using OEM parts. Thank you for taking the time to share.

I cannot thank you enough. This was my Bible as I did this and I looked at a LOT of videos. You've got a great way of explaining things. My toughest things were stupid but time consuming. The top part of the dash (the flap) was glued to the windshield - I assume the windshield was replaced and they used too much glue. That took me an hour. Removing the AC lines was no that easy as the space was cramped. Removing the heater core lines was horrendous. They were really stuck. Then the blend doors - ugh. So many trips the store(s) to get the right ones. Thanks for all your help. I would have never gotten this apart.

This is the best video on KZbin for this job. I will be doing one for a friend this weekend and this will help immensely. While I have done many of these, none have been on the Dodge 1500, now i have an idea what I am getting into. I see way too many people cutting the lines and using rubber hose and I just want to yell at the monitor. Nobody has patience to do things right anymore. Anyway, great video, keep up the great work. You are doing a great service to others on here.

Hey man I just watched this video and I'm about to have to take my entire box out...grrrrh. I have never been as afraid of pulling a dash as most people but I have really been dreading this job.. haha. Your video was one of if not the best one I have seen on instructional how to.. I will make sure I pass your channel along to friends also. God bless you for taking the time. I'm going to make a small donation to you for your time.

timbercd32 you have no idea how much your comment and donation means to me! You're actually the first person that's ever donated to my channel. So I thank you very much from the bottom of my heart and God bless you! Thank you for your support!!!

Ray Raimi thanks! no I don't really make it out that way much honestly. And usually when I do I'm slingshotting across to get out to Denver. If you are more local though I would totally help you out

hey man love the no nonsense video, after watching this as i have an 03 ram 1500 that needs a heater core i have a question for you. if i where to carefully cut an access opening in firewall would i be able to unfasten heater core and slide forward into engine comparment to remove and replace? if its feesable i would make a cover to seal and cover accesss hole i cut out. thoughts?

Erinmalyce hey, thanks for the comment! Honestly to give you an accurate answer on your question I would have to be looking at one in front of me. It really depends if there's going to be enough room under the hood and such. I think you would be better off just doing it the way I did in the video honestly. It's really not that hard once you know where everything is. And especially if you have a friend helping you you can get it done in a breeze. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance, I just couldn't really give you the green light on cutting open your firewall without actually seeing one in front of me. Thanks again though and please give me a subscribe if you can. When I post videos I usually turn off the notify subscribers option unless it's a video that's really good and I think everybody can benefit from. You do have a great idea there though if you can pull it off clean

Great video, and very helpful. One question. What side of the heater core is the inlet and what side is out; or are they interchangeable? Does it have a right side up?
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 4 жыл бұрын
I don't remember which side was the inlet or Outlet. But as I stated in the video, you should Mark which hose is the upper and which is the lower when you take them off. Hope that helps. Thanks for your comment

Big help. OEM is a dual heater core where one side is clogged. Are the new ones dual or single?

Thank You very much for this vid.It will make it easier for me to tear my dash out.I've been a mechanic for years and this will be my first Dodge Ram dash.Did the dash in this truck crack too,because both pieces cracked in mine and they are stupid big money to replace,so I bought the covers.It's little cheaper and quality looks pretty decent.I think since I have the dash apart I will fiberglas the back of the dash that's cracked just to stiffen it up.Thanks for that tip to replace the a/c crap,I will do that too,and hope to never take it apart again....thanx again buddy...ohhh mine in an '02 and just hit 30K...it has the 4.7..
