He saw how beneficial year 1 was for Ohtani and Yamamoto and how the overall fit made sense from a competitive aspect and cultural comfort level all while becoming a better player. The Dodgers are fans to many international countries and Korea is right up there with Japan. A big market with the most DEDICATED fanbase that go HARDER than any other franchise at home or on the road win or lose. The best well ran organization that hasn't missed a postseason since 2012, have made 5 WS appearances in the last 8 years, and won 2 (really 3 - 2017) in that span. They've put themselves in a position to not only be successful but contenders for the foreseeable future, and their core of superstars are locked up for the rest of their MLB careers. He could play a big role in helping the Dodgers with their regular season extra innings issues. Teams that hit for a lot of power do not perform well in the extra innings. Base running speed and contact is what matters most with the new rules. They could bring Kim in to be the runner at second to start the 10th. Or they could use him with a runner on third less than two hours. You just need somebody that will put the ball in play in that situation and that’s what Kim does best. He can also help as a late inning defensive replacement or as a pinch runner after the seventh inning to try to extend a lead. If any player gets a walk after the seventh inning it would basically be a double after Kim pinch runs for them. He is not going to be a star but he can really help this Dodgers team with a specific need

The Gold Glove Award in Korea doesn't go to the best defensive player for a position. In Korea, the Gold Glove Award goes to the best player in the position. The vote for the best player in the position is heavily weighted towards offense (batting and base stealing). His Gold Glove for shortstop wasn't for defensive prowess. The report of him winning four KBO Gold Gloves in Wikipedia is wrong.

What's interesting about the Dodgers signing Hye-Soeng Kim is, it was reported he turned down a much higher guaranteed contract from the Angels. The offer was reported as five years for $28 million, though some of that offer may have been option money for the last year or two. Even if the mutual 2 year option is picked up by Kim and the Dodgers, Kim will only make a total of $22 million. A conversation Kim had with Shohei Ohtani may have convinced him to sign with the Dodgers. I guess it sucks trying to sign free agents when you only won 63 games last year and probably aren't projected to be a .500 team in 2025.

The Dodgers have such a monopoly in the east right now that he accepted less money to end up in what will likely be a non-starter role just so he could play for them. Can anyone tell more about the comparison of Hyeseong Kim and Jungho Lee in KBO like in terms of WAR? I know they play at different position but how could they sign a so different size of contracts?
@king_ltc_2 күн бұрын
Junghoo Lee has age on his side. He is also more highly touted because his father is a KBO legend. I think he was also the youngest MVP in KBO history. Hye Song Kim has had a very solid career, but nothing like Jung Hoo Lee.

But I mean if I'm not getting much money anyway, why would I pick the pirates when I can pick the dodgers?

I can see Lux getting the ax, hopefully Chris Taylor as well as Bobby Miller.

Well, he wont get the axe, but he might be a part of a big trade, stay tuned

Don't hate! Your team is just not as smart as the Dodgers organization.

Maybe Kim will have beef with Ohtani and Yamamoto, because Koreans and Japanese have always been fighting. Ww2, etc. Imagine if they start beating each other on the field

Dodger haters keep moving the goalposts. First is was "1st round exits" to "Micky Mouse ring" to "Buying a ring" to "Dodgers are ruining baseball" etc etc. How about using all of that energy of getting mad at your own team for not doing anything? ALL MLB teams have the capital to sign big-name players, ALL MLB owners are *billionaires,* they can afford it. If an MLB owner tells you that they can't, they are just gaslighting their own fans because that's a straight-up lie.

I'll be honest, when I first saw the news, I thought the Dodgers had gotten Ha Seoung Kim and was like 'Suck it Padres!' Still, if Hyeseoung Kim is anything similar to Ha Seoung Kim, I'd be pretty satisfied with this pickup.

Rich get richer is a theme in America. Why should people get mad about it now? Bc it’s baseball, that funny

Kim turned down the Angels, Padres and Cubs. I don't get it, why would Kim choose the Dodgers?
@KingAramisКүн бұрын
Angels offered 5/28 and he still chose the Dodgers. He was going to the Dodgers no matter what, so stop saying other teams didn't try.
