Saw this live, what a crazy ending. Couldn't be better scripted, honestly. The worst thing that could happen in Dodger fans minds was the batter hitting into a double play. 2 outs Ohtani gets to hit no big deal. The game abruptly ending leaving Ohtani in the batter's box came out of nowhere. Padres dodged a major bullet.

Catching a ground ball and running at third usually means you lost your chance at 2nd and therefore need to throw to first. He took the risk to go for three outs but it could have easily ended as just 1 out instead of the guaranteed double play. Just look at how close the 2nd and 3rd outs were.

Yeah you load the bases, but its Ohtani and they put him on there every time no question.
