It's a great topic. In my area (limited experience) the justification for taking does, or "its brown its down" is very often miss represented. Unfortunately, overall deer populations in eastern Ontario are very low. There are still monsters walking, and deer to shoot, but the deer to square km ratio is very low compared to what it was 25 years ago when I started hunting. I know, everyone says that, but the data I use is that we used to get up to 7 tags (deer) per person at one point, and now most management zones are lottery based. Add to that the clear observations that I see less deer when Im out, either means I've gotten worse as a hunter over time or there just aren't as many deer... All that to say, this is a great video that convinced me on my new properties this year, while im seeing lots of does and not as many buck's as I'd like, its more about the lack of information I have about the properties than the off-set ratios.

I usually inherit a lot of does this time of the year. There isn't really any food for them once the crops are harvested. This year at this point I really only have 2 does living here and maybe one other doe group of about 5 that stops by once in a while to feed in the food plots. I am leaning towards not taking any does this year because there is a lot of pressure on them from my neighbors during the gun hunting season and there doesn't seem to be a lot of them around.

The footage of the two bucks butting heads, is that on the property you moved to in the last year or so, or is that your other parcel? Just curious, how your new property is working out as well.

What is the best time of year for observation to determine if you need to harvest does? Could late season not be accurate if you have a food source and could be drawing deer from the surrounding area?

Wish I could find a nice spot for some doe management but I’m restricted to public or hap property here in Michigan so that’ll likely never happen

We really need to harvest a few here but it bothers me to have a late season muzzle season after most of the mature does are bread.I guess archery would be the time but I hate bothering does just before the rut.I believe the more does around the more likely to see horny mature buck.

A lot of hunters don't take into consideratio heard management or buck to doe ratio i myself am a ambush hunter and will take one buck and 2-3 doe a year
