in reference to comment about hoping that people don't say that she "sold out" because of her making some pop songs.. it's kinda inevitable people are gonna say that; they did the same thing to nicki back in the early 2010s (hence why nicki doesn't wanna do that again & said she dislikes some of those songs even tho they were hits). as a rising rap star, people are gonna judge you for "leaving the genre". but wbk she's multitalented & no one should have to be stuck in a box.

Doechii is up next! She’s definitely one of my favorites right now. It took me forever to finally look her up until she dragged latte and I’ve been hooked, you can tell who her influences are but she doesn’t mimic them. Even tho some of her music I’m not used to hearing like songs like “ crazy” her delivery makes me like them , and her performances are top tier especially for her not having like a Beyoncé budget. Her song “ Girls” is my favorite song ever, how she switches from that smooth singing and rap to the hardcore rap with the distortion is insane ! And the way she switches flows so effortlessly 😢 Jesus It’s been a hot minute since there’s been someone who I like as much as her. And the fact she’s a dark skinned queen doing alternative rap shows is so inspiring. Like I legit get inspired watching her because her confidence is so insane . You can tell she does it for the music because she could easily take a different route because her body is right and her confidence is sexy. But I love how she dresses crazy and unique because it makes you pay attention instead of sexualizing her. Since was legit naked in crazy and the whole time I was captivated by her performance

I hope Doechii never gets "boxed" in. I can understand from a marketting point of view why they would want her to find her sound so she can be set apart from others but what if her "thing" is not being niche. I feel like this comes up a lot of social media about not wanting to be put into a niche or specializing role. We have so many people in the world who are multipotential and it seems a damn shame to not let them explore all facets of their being. I hope she gets to be whatever she wants, whenever she wants. It’s sad as fuck that when a female artist chooses to not make her sexuality the main product and chooses to focus on the music people don’t give ‘en as much attention. You would think since music is for listening people would care less about that stuff. Missy always had the same problem. I wish it wasn’t like this.
@sohnaminta.9264 Жыл бұрын
Doechii is quite sexual though, but I agree with your point in general.
@SocialExperiment232 Жыл бұрын
@@sohnaminta.9264 i don’t think she makes it her brand tho the way others do kinda put that front and center. She also has remained quite natural and hasn’t enhanced her appearance to fit the male gaze better and I mad respect her for that. No hate or nothing to women who choose to be more sexual they are free to express themselves. But I wish we as a society would value music above all things and not focus on an artist appearance cause that leaves a lot of talent unrecognized.

I really love Oh the Places You'll Go as my favorite project from her so far I love how creative and versatile she is in addition how her lyricism have a very a meta-political undertone to it in terms of commenting on black girlhood experiences and being subversive to racial, gender and social class preconceived notions. I do hope she doesn’t get herself into more backlash, both her one sided beef with Lola brooke and this recent Kodak black collab got alienate her core fanbase but she (or her team) was smart to release a solo version of the Kodak collab. I first heard about her when Doja Cat was on a red carpet and she mentioned her name, Doechii is the truth! I wish her the best, an artist like her is needed. She has the potential to do what artists like Azealia Banks didn’t imo by taking a more alternative approach for a commercial breakthrough. She can sing, dance, and rap, her visuals are strong, on paper, she’s everything. Now it’s just about marketing and the relationships/networks she builds in the industry. That’s where Azealia came up short always burning bridges over artistic disagreements 😳 hoping she won’t fall through those same trap doors 🕳️ and does whatever she can to get up there long enough that she can make an impact on black women’s culture in music. The current culture of female rap, the conversations were having are FAR too narrow. I have no doubt Doechii’s creative output will help broaden horizons.

First, I would like to thank you for this video. I’ve been praising this woman and her individuality for a long time and I need her to be more mainstream because she champions being her own person with her own unique ideas and that’s so important for our culture right now. I remember when Erykah Badu came out in 1997 and how she set herself a part from all the other singers with her unique approach to sound and style. I feel like Doechii can definitely do that for this generation, she just needs more publicity. So videos like this helps out a lot. It’s okay to be black, queer, different and sometimes a weirdo…that’s what I get when I see Doechii and it makes me soooooo proud and seen!
