Does 2024 Mercedes GLE 53 AMG Handle Better than BMW X6?

Im taking the X6 all day. X6 40i is 13k cheaper than GLE 53 base price of 87k and the b58 engine is very reliable and can be tuned to make the same power as the 53. BMW is just much more bang for buck and driving focused than Mercs. For the price of GLE 53 you can get a X5 or X6 in the M60i trim. with the new s68 v8 engine from BMW and nearly 100hp more than a 53. in my opinion you need as much power as you can in a big suv to make it feel light. The X6M comp is also better than GLE 63S at the 130k price.

Thanks for the feedback. One thing about GLE 53 AMG is that it comes with many standard features that would be extra on X6: like Air Suspension, Burmester audio system, premium seats, Sport exhaust and more upgraded engine. If you add all that to X6 it will be much closer in terms of pricing. I also own a BMW and like them a lot, but this GLE was pretty nicely specked and will appeal to many buyers who want more of Luxury experience and less of Driving Dynamics that BMW is more superior in.

I own both GLE 53 coupe and BMW X5 40i. Prefer driving the Mercedes. With AMG driver’s package the GLE delivers super cool driving experience. The interior feels way more luxurious. The difference between Harman Kardon and Burmeister is night and day. Sound quality is fantastic in GLE. The icing on the cake is AMG exhaust, it’s amazing. As well as this, millions of X5s on the roads while GLE coupe you can hardly see once in a while. The seating is more comfy in X5 and ergonomic wise it beats the GLE. Overall feeling is more relaxed. For long trip I would definitely take the X5.

Yes agreed GLE 53 AMG feels more special. They do have in Europe GLE 450 which would be closer matched to X5, but AMG really eleveted experience for 53 AMG.

I personally prefer the BMW handling but the GLE is a gorgeous vehicle.

Yep, GLE is really a stunning car. BMW has completely different character and kind of like them both. Will bring X6 soon on the channel

I think it’s very subjective. As much as i love BMWs for this last gen I like Mercedes looks more. But of course BMW’s driving dynamics is far superior.

Nice comparison review! Can you provide any feedback on reliability concerns with the newer GLE SUVs, especially the recent changes MB is making to their engines. I’ve heard horror stories of people getting stranded with their GLE. I’m looking to upgrade from a ‘21 X3 M40 to either X5 / M60, or a GLE 53 SUV. Test drove both already, just wondering about any potential issues.

Hi there, thanks for the comment, responding in few weeks. Honestly I would trust BMW with the engine more. Their B58 (6 cylinder) is called legendary engine for a reason. As for Mercedes I really don't have any experience, I would certainly not hope to drive this to like 100K miles, not to say it's not capable but not sure if these cars really designed for longevity, but again good to talk to mechanics who really know these vehicles, I don't really have any experience with Mercedes products.

I personally prefer Luxury, beefy look and air suspension, where in corner i have power, speed and not feel thrown out of seat. I enjoy the power and luxury

Nice, thanks for the feedback. I think for more aggressive cornering BMW should have a better dynamics, but I haven't tried yet X6. Hopefully soon.

I think you should check out the X6 M60i-- that seems like a closer direct comparison if looking at pricing alone.

Price wise yes M60i would be a closer comparison, but power wise and engine type it would be X6 40i. Trying to bring it soon on the channel.

I test drove the X6 40i and the Gle 53 Amg on the same day. And i can firmly say BMW Drives far better than a Mercedes. Only difference i noticed was that the features in the Mercedes are more than a BMW but i kinda felt these features are something that i am never going to use. I was not in a mood to compromise my driving pleasure for some gimmicky features. Also, even though the Mercedes have more BHP and Torque as compared to the BMW i felt that the BMW is a bit quicker and faster than the Merc. I finally settled for the BMW X6 xdrive40i since India only sells this model. Also, guys who are confused between the X6 and Gle 53 AMG , go blindly buy the X6, you will thank me later.

Actually depends on your taste! Both vehicles have mostly the same features...Mercedes is more luxury and BMW is more sporty! BOTH give a powerful and great drive...I believe the Mercedes is cheaper on insurance...luxury vs sporty??!!

Overall yes agreed. It is very subjective. And if you value driving dynamics over luxury then BMW is the way to go. I did like though how AMG tuned their base 6 cylinder engine to offer more powerful version with lots of cool features, but after all it does not offer anything for driving enthusiasts.

Insurance on my GLE 53 is twice more expensive than my X5 40i
