There is a huge difference between 120 decibels and 105 decibels, so it actually worked pretty well.

It’s not just the pillow that suppresses the sound. It’s the combination of the pillow and the person’s head. It forces some of the sound to bounce back at the pillow, further suppressing the sound. Also, pillows back in the day weren’t made from polyfill. They were most likely down feathers or something similar.

Yes, a better test would be shooting a pumpkin at close range with and without “My Pillow” silencer. But people need to understand the sound levels are measured logarithmically. A 3 dB increase or decrease is a factor of 2 (twice or half as loud). A 10 dB change is a full order of magnitude (10 times louder or 1/10th). And a 20 dB change is 100 times louder or 1/100th as loud. dBs are crazy that way

The only difference I see is that in the movies the pillow is normally seen being compressed against a person body in which the feathers or cotton would be a little thicker for a bullet to pass through whereas you held it loosely. I think if you’d compress the pillow on an object or even the ground you’d get a much different sound reading

I did this a number of years ago with a sofa pillow/cushion. They're much denser than a bed pillow. I fired into the ground using a .22LR pistol, .380 pistol and a 1911 .45 ACP. The 45 sounded like a heavy car door being slammed shut hard. The .380, if fired indoors, wouldn't be loud enough to be heard outside. The .22 on the other hand was scary quiet. The only thing I could hear was the "click click" of the action working.
