I just found your videos after Patrick had passed away. I have never even watched a video with him in it. He was so nice! The security system sounds great. We have the ring system on our house and really like it. Like I said we’re going to buy an RV. Well I found out that you can attach the ring doorbell to the outside panel of your RV. So that’s what we’re going to do. As far as our travels go I am not too worried. We’re going to stay within a three state radius. Mainly be in state campgrounds and a couple private areas which all have security. To to answer your question I think everything should have security in this day and age!!! Peace of Christ!

Thanks Rebecca. We sailed 7000 miles on a new sailboat last year without security however, there were times we wish we had something, especially in the tropics where we would lock up and roast all night... we would leave the hatches cracked but would have really liked something where we could have opened them or the main door ... likewise when we had to leave our boat for a few months. It would have been nice to remotely view or monitor.... a lot of food for thought. I contacted GOST and mentioned you.

On S.V. Snow Maiden we have an Ultra Sonic Sensor system connected to a peizo alarm and it also activates our deck illumination lights and a masthead strobe light. This also connected to a IR CCTV system we can activate from anywhere. So far it has worked. This system was designed by Robert's brother. In our home anchorage the local house owners also keep an eye on all the vessels moored there although there are now 6 liveaboards (including ourselves) in the anchorage. Regards from Suzie and Robert on S.V. Snow Maiden.

I'm wondering about a metal handle on the washboards, connected to the gubbins from a cheap Chinese stun gun (around $10). It delivers around 100,000 volts at very low amperage, so whilst it wouldn't mean you'll arrive back to find an expired thief in your companionway, it will certainly alter a thief's opinion of your security system. Ideal for nighttime prowlers too, as instead of having a panic alarm you'll be awoken by the bloodcurdling scream of the interloper as they leap over the side to escape the terrorising shock. Merry Christmas!

Thank you for this very informative video. I am very impressed with the technology, especially the stuff made specifically for boats. The motion sensor that doesn't go off for pets but does for people is pretty interesting. What sort of magic is this?! Before I sold off my cars, I was big into performance cars and car stereos. I had a pain generator that was very similar to the very loud siren in the boat. It work wonders with the thugs!

Yes. The GOST security system definitely has some great technology. I have no idea how it doesn’t see pets, but does see thieves. But it’s critical on my boat!!!

Excellent video. There are other options for security, from the excellent suggestions and ideas presented early on in the video (the DIY solutions) to Pirate Lights (an audible/visual alarm system) to GOST and others. Very important vid. Thanks.

Thank you. You get notified via an email, a text and/or a phone call..whatever options you choose. You can shut off remotely, turn back on remotely. I have a similar thing for the house. Check out "motion" on Linux, it will allow you to upload an image to a Web server when something changes. You have me laughing. Dogs are generally GREAT security systems! Unpredictability is always a good thing. But yes...once someone gets to know YOUR dog, the licker...the GOST security system may be your better bet!

Does it have it's own data connection or does it use the one's already on the boat? Seems like it has it's own... The engineer in me would really prefer to not duplicate things or buy into proprietary systems on the boat, and use a more open "smart home" approach. From what I know/guess about your boat: you have at least 3 ~"wifi" networks (ghost, raymarine, internet), 1 wired network that doesn't work with the vast majority of wired networking devices (nmea), 3 VHF recievers (dsc radio, plotter with AIS, standalone AIS), but only 1 vhf sender which isn't accessible from the plotter (dsc radio), 2 cellular data but no bridge to wifi (cell phone, ghost), 2 satellite data (ghost, iridium), and a few bluetooth devices (BMS, battery charger), and I think I missed some radios in this list. Huge amounts of duplication, but no automatic fail over or central point to access all data. The hardware is there, you should be able to see the windspeed, heel, and battery state on your remote security interface, but you can't, can you? Obviously, I'd like to avoid this any time I am actually buying new hardware and get only solutions that can work with all other solutions, but this doesn't exist, does it? What happens when ghost and/or the satellite network they use goes out of business? You might have to replace everything down to the deck sensors just because there is no dynDNS or ethernet support. But most of the Smart Home stuff isn't marine grade at all, and uses too much power. That leaves me tempted to go low-tech while I wait for the industry to mature. But thanks for the update! Always appreciated.

Not completely correct on what i have onboard. One AIS used by all. Two cellular networks, 2 sat networks. Iridium not likely to go out of business but one never knows. My battery state and a whole lot more can go through the gost system but chose not to have those since security is what i was after and the system isnt cheap. A few other minor bits for correction but not biggies. One system and network for all would be nice...but if it cane put tomorrow i could never afford to upgrade everything So we live with the duplication. But Im not a big fan of integration anyways...i like standalone systems much better. Much easier troubleshooting...and when one thing breaks...not everything is broken...Technology advancing all the time... GOST security is on the cutting edge for sure. So if one decides to take a chance and wait, Gost is probably the one to wait for. Or at least install with an eye for what rhey will do next.

@@RVLifeNOW "My battery state ... [could] go through the gost system but ... [it] isnt cheap." But it shouldn't cost anything to connect existing devices to it, just a setting. In the future I think this will be true: all devices on one network talking to eachother. Gost could turn on your radio and send a DSC distress message that the bilge pump has been running for too long, or just a message to the harbor master that the battery is low. It shouldn't matter what brand the water ingress sensor or BMS is. They are simple devices with simple data streams. Consumers just need to demand that manufacturers actually do it. I'm going to try and check out some open source solutions on our boat (we have a REAL boat now! so excited) and hopefully come to some conclusions before we step up to something bigger.

Has anyone ever rigged up a electric type fence power supply to the top rail of their hand rail? Would be cheap and very effective. Just need to find a place to disarm it from off the boat, and hide that well.

I actually have one but have never gotten it to work. Maybe it’s broken.
