Aaron Rodgers yielded the top spot in ESPN's latest QB rankings. Rodgers is coming off his second straight MVP season and his fourth overall. The Packers QB was ranked ahead of Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Tom Brady. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe debate whether Rodgers should be ranked No. 1.

He was spectacular in the regular season, he had the best WR in the league, a top 5 defense, and home field advantage in the playoffs and didn’t get it done. For years, so many fans said "Rodgers is better. He just doesn't have a team, if he did he'd have like 10 superbowls!". But the last few years Rodgers DID have killer teams that could make a run. The first time, Brady beat the breaks of them and blows the game off its hinges before Rodgers does anything. The second time, Rodgers had a comfortable lead he couldn't hold onto despite his defense playing rock solid. In 2014 his defense grabbed 4 picks for him, and even though he had a lead, he couldn't get a SINGLE first down in the 4th until Seattle took the lead, allowing the Seahawks to come back and win. And remind me, what did TB12 do to that exact same team WITHOUT his team getting multiple turnovers? Oh yeah, he won. In no universe in Aaron Rodgers better than Tom Brady. If he was, he'd actually do something in the playoffs when he has a good team around him.

The interception is an overvalued stat. Because it only counts for ONE possession. It's really only important WHEN, WHERE, WHY and WHAT happened after the interception occurred. An interception thrown when you are already 2 TD's ahead in a game is NOT the same as throwing a pick 6 near the end of game when you are behind. Also, is the effort to avoid throwing interceptions also MINIMIZING your ability to make WINNING plays? There is an argument that Aaron is TOO careful with the ball, especially in big, hotly contested games. And that might explain why as great as he has been he has only won ONE SuperBowl. Also, the willingness to take chances, to risk making mistakes can often be very inspirational to your teammates who are also putting everything on the line to win.

The whole ‘Rodgers vs Brady’ debate is pretty much the same situation with Peyton Manning vs Brady in my eyes. Peyton was also the overall “better” quarterback than Brady… that is, all the way up to the point when it mattered most; the playoffs. Brady is the more clutch player as well as the better team leader than those 2; important aspects in a QB people tend to overlook or just flat-out ignore in these discussions. So many people only go by their eyes in evaluating a QB (oh look how pretty he can throw the ball!) while forgetting there’s a whole cerebral aspect that goes into playing the position.

Not to mention the fact that was Brady’s first year in an offense where he had to learn it during the COVID lockdowns. On the other hand there are plenty of examples of Peyton and Rodgers looking unstoppable in the regular season and then underperforming and choking in the playoffs, often going 1 and done, especially on Peyton’s part. Even Dungy once referred to Manning’s performance in the postseason as to him “holding the bat a little too tight”. It’s fine if you don’t like Brady, but saying he’s not even close to being the better player is just asinine and not even close to being objective. Rodgers has low Pick counts because he risks very little in his passing plays . Brady has to make it happen more carrying his team in more areas than just QB . So Brady throws into more Double teams than Rodgers does getting picked more . They just give the MVP to Rodgers as some Consulation prize for his Playoff meltdowns . Brady led the NFL in most major categories . TDs , TDs of 20 or more yards , Overall Passing Yards , Record Completion totals , Completions of 20 yards or more , Wins . Shannon Not So Sharpe is FOS. Why is nobody accounting for the fact that Rodgers doesn’t have more interceptions because he is always throwing the ball out? So despite the fact he takes care of the ball so much he always comes up short when needed more. Add to that, the reverse that due to him not being aggressive and confident enough he has lost games himself.

In the last 5 seasons tom Brady’s 2,019 completions 22,938 yards and 168 touchdowns are ALL the most in the NFL combine that with the fact That Aaron has gotten to throw the ball to Davante Adams Who has made 5 Consecutive pro bowls and 2 Consecutive first team all pros And it’s pretty clear that even with better weapons tom is just superior to Aaron

I’m a lifelong Packers fan and I’ve been watching Aaron Rodgers since he became a starter when I was in 7th grade. He’s the Lebron James of the NFL. And Brady is MJ. Last year really epitomized what Aaron is to me. He’s the greatest individual talent at the QB position of all time, but he doesn’t have what MJ and Brady have, the clutch gene that isn’t teachable. Brady plays his best under pressure in the biggest moments and Aaron doesn’t. It’s really that simple

Brady should be number 1 no doubt. Aaron Rodgers is a me type player playing a team game. Rodgers is going to have better td to interception ratio because he had the one of the best WR in the game today. BRADY had the best TE but it's not the same as a WR. Brady has done best with the least while Rodgers has done the least with the best. It is also a telling sigh when your best WR leaves you while the best TE followed Brady. The best play their best when the most is at stake. Jordan, Magic, Bird, Kareem, Shaq, Kobe. Montana, Elway, Young, Big Ben, Brady. Regular season gets you there no question but playoffs is where great players are made and recognized. I don't recognize Rodgers.
