Anyone can be depressed or go into a depression but that doesn’t mean they have the clinical depression that is a mental illness (the one where ur brain chemistry is off). I think that’s why it varies so much but I agree that it’s not a trend or personality trait and ppl shouldn’t treat it as one

but also, the other side is ppl ypu act "depressed" cause its a trend and gets attention, it also shows it has serious underlying issues

Well it's hard to treat it as a mental illness when mental illness is like a glorified badge to wear the moment you speak to someone it's like this now example: hi my name is and excuse me for doing this I have ocd adhd, or I'm depressed so I'm going to go take my medication or people list their medication. So I see depression for us Gen z's as a trend because we have nothing else going for us. Technology isn't even being innovative by us we are just piggy backing off of people approximately 10 to 40 years older than us. So instead of getting to the root of our issue and saying God I feel like I'm going no where...out generations response to Everything is....I'm depressed or that's depressing it's flippant

Completely agree with the overuse of the word “Depression.” HOWEVER, not all depression looks the same. Saying that depression only looks like the inability to perform daily tasks invalidates others experiences. I have high functioning depression. For years I used goals and ambition and over-working to compensate for my emptiness and suicidal tendencies. I didn’t think I had depression, but after a suicide attempt I went to a therapist and was diagnosed after a few sessions. I’m heavily medicated now and it’s changed my life for the better. So please don’t talk about how depression can only look one way-that can push people like me to not seek treatment until it’s almost too late.

What are meds like? I'm a little hesitant to take them...did they really help more than just therapy? What were side effects like?
@Superlevenloos2 жыл бұрын
@@morayoadedapo2457 Hi! I see it has been a few days, but these were the questions I had about meds as well. First of all, meds are *not* a replacement for therapy. Rather you should see it as an aid to make your lows feel not dangerously low. The side effect is that your highs might not feel so high either so basically it tries to level your extreme feelings. This is often great to help you in your day to day life as it might just mean you will take that shower or not have a meltdown. However, it doesnt cure your depression which is often the downfall for a lot of people. They think they are doing great and then stop taking their meds, only to fall back in their old style. That is why meds is often prescribed to keep you going when youre on a waitinglist to seek help, or if you are in therapy and your therapist think this will help until you get to a point in your journey where you might not need them anymore. As to which kind of meds of course depends on your state of mind, your doctor/therapist opinion and experiences, health insurance and of course how you react to them. Have a conversation with your specialist and discuss any fears you might have. For me for example, I was afraid of turning into a zombie where days would pass by without me knowing as that happened to people I personally knew. So I got medication that I could dose in drops and tested under survaillance to see on what level I felt comfortable with and could easily lower or top up without too many side effects that might happen with trying to dose pills. My side effects were heavy sweating, lowered libido, and lost of appitite from one medication, and with the one I had been on for quite some time, the sweating went away and other two were doing a lot better than they had been on the other meds. However this is different for everyone and is sadly trial and error. Hope you will feel better soon!

I totally agree with what Sabah said about how “loosely” the term “depressed” is thrown around. I have been dealing with depression for years and whenever I hear someone say “I’m so depressed” because they failed a test or got a shitty grade or whatever. I wish people could find a different word to describe their feelings instead of using the word “depressed” because depression is so hard to cope with, and it’s definitely not appropriate to use in a “jokey” way.
@ImNotQualifiedToSayThisBut2 жыл бұрын
Well there's a difference between having *a* depression and feeling depressed. Feeling depressed is simply a symptom of clinical depression/despressive disorder etc. Severity can range between sad to suicidal. The term is simply too vague in English. Taking my mother tongue as example: When something's depressing said thing is "deprimierend"; when I'm depressed, I'm "deprimiert" but when I'm suffering under a depression then I'm "depressiv" in German.

The sad part is having an easier life actually creates stagnation and regression. People need to struggle and actually overcome to develop.
@0104brit3 жыл бұрын
@@CrimsonEclipse I think that depends on the person. For most people struggling can be very discouraging and cause further harm if you don't know how to deal with it. I think that the notion of "struggling to become stronger" is often romanticized because the only people who tell those stories are the ones who were able to overcome....what about all those people who couldn't move past it.
@CrimsonEclipse3 жыл бұрын
@@0104brit this is why I said "Struggle and Overcome." It's usually a mentality problem. People inherently are happy when they are able to overcome and develop and improve. To do this struggle has to happen. Even an infant struggle how to learn to walk, talk, grow and learn. They are happy when they are able to learn new skills and develop. Truth be told life is always a struggle but if you refuse to overcome and just give up it actually creates a circle of unnecessary struggles. People need to learn and do changes in their lives to overcome circumstances. Even childhood psychology talks about how when a child has all their wants and needs met they have a harder time developing independence and becomes insecure adults. We all want life to be easy for the next generation but at the same time it may not help develop independence and confidence if they don't struggle and develop and learn to overcome on their own. It's another reason encouraging victim mentality takes aways independent agency of the individual. People should have compassion and empathy but at the same time the individual needs to want to improve and overcome on their own as well.

Like when I’m older, I don’t want to be stuck in my ways and not try and understand the younger generations, I want to grow with the world and understand, and progress forward. hi y'all! i'm sarah from the video and i just wanted to say two quick things! number one, i definitely agreed with the people who wished there were deeper topics--i'm surprised they spent so much time on the skinny jean question when we did have some really fascinating conversations about technology, education, body positivity, objectification, cancel culture, and even some geopolitical perspectives. keep in mind, we filmed for like 3-4 hours, so a LOT had to be cut out, and they probably didn't want to go into a lot of stuff too intensely. i definitely would love to see a longer cut though, i think a lot of the nuance was taken out of some of the conversations which can make some comments seem unfounded or too harsh when it's whittled down like this. i also wanted to clarify on the question of depression: when we were filming i did mention how depression is a spectrum and everyones depression looks different and should be taken seriously. i think the context that was taken out was that i was specifically referring to the romanticization of depression by our generation. we throw the word around carelessly but then think people with severe depression are disgusting. i have clinical depression but i am "high-functioning" right now, and that doesn't make what i go through any less valid ! as long as you're not looking down on people with more severe issues than you, my comment was not directed to you. anyway, i know it's useless to respond to all the comments i see but i would like to continue some conversations so if anyone has any questions let me know :) hope ur all doing well!

"I feel like we should be teaching this in schools" As a 28 year old, I can say I WAS taught critical thinking and research in school. When I was in high school, every research paper we had to write had to cite at least 3 sources and none of them could be from the same site/author. We were even taught how to properly cite the sources in MLA format. Learning to verify information you see online isn't a "new" skill. In fact, its only been the last few years that have seen this type of critical thinking fall out of public education.

I feel like the ones switching lines are trying to be all spiritual and respect your body etc. I honestly think they shouldn't be afraid to say they have sent nudes and the reason why. It is so-called due to the technology that existed during the time of their births: iPhone, iPod, iPad, iTunes, Wii, etc, and the way that they are used: individualized. Generation Z/Zoomers, the generation born in the 2000s and 2010s, comprising primarily the children of the Gen X'ers and typically been raised with screens, smartphones and are the most tech savvy, very much influenced by vloggers and internet celebs. 2000s babies are smartphone kids and don't know a world without KZbin and streaming services. The younger millennials were arguably the last generation to have an internet-free childhood. We grew up trying to climb trees and playing kiss-chase rather than doing educational Peppa Pig games on iPads. Zoomers! QuaranTEENs, tiktokers, fortnite kids, tide pod babies, jake paulers, logan paul kids and streamer twitch kids are those born between 2001-2009 and beyond. They all grew up on the same stuff. This generation is kind of soft, they don't really have real struggle, they have no WWII or great depression era event. They see social media and think if their life it is not this dream type they failed and feel bad about it. Now that is a bad thing, but it is not the same as clinical depression. We shouldn't discount people experience depression in different forms, but do need to clarify simple feeling down is not the same thing as having clinical depression. What happens is people use the term so loosely that it loses any meaning, and those who do suffer get thrown in a pile of regular people just feeling and don't get the treatment they need.
