Ok everyone. I think it would help if we were all on the same page about the horizon. Anytime any flerf even mentions the horizon, they have confirmed the globe. Letting them attempt to make any other point about it is a mistake. Let me know if I missed or misrepresented anything on this- 1. There is no horizon on a flat plane. 2. Horizons only exist on curved surfaces. 3. The only way to calculate the distance to the horizon on Earth is to use the CURVATURE formula. 4. There is no mathematical formula for calculating distance to the horizon on a flat plane. 5. The terms circle, compass and horizon all apply to a three-dimensional object. 6. There is no such thing as a circle in 3D, it is a 2D geometric concept that does not exist in reality. 7. A compass is used on a sphere to calculate angels and distances. 8. A sphere is a 3D circle.

Will you please clarify point 3? I have always calculated the distance to the horizon by using Pythagoras: *D² = (6371 + H)² - 6371²* Where 6371 is the Earth's radius in km, H is the observer's height in km and D is the distance to the horizon, also in km.

For those of us that cannot get into a cockpit and see the Sun or Moon below the horizontal, you can often see the effects of the Sun being below the horizon by looking up at clouds shortly before sunrise or shortly after sunset, when clouds can be seen to be illuminated from below. As clouds being illuminated from below is impossible for a flat earth, once you have observed it for yourself a few times, they have no response other than claims that you did not see it. The flat earth stock and trade is that you can 'see for yourself that the Earth is flat, so a simple and direct observation that the Earth is curved makes all of their arguments fall flat. It will not help them, as flat earth believers combine willful blindness (the ability not to see contrary evidence) with invincible ignorance (the ability to forget any inconvenient truths), but it will prove to any other people looking on that all flat earth 'proofs' collapse into 'everybody who tells you that the Earth is a sphere is a liar'.

Well, here I just roughly estimated a 3.5 degree drop to the horizon, and per the altimeter (45000ft) and Bislin's curve calculator, I should expect 3.7 degrees of dip. Flat earthers always claim “THE HORIZON IS ALWAYS AT EYE LEVEL”. I have stated, many times, that claim is a physical impossibility. Lay a penny on a flat table. No matter how big that flat table is, the top of that penny is above the farthest edge of the table. We can’t perceive the small degree of angular drop to the horizon, with our naked eyes. Even my own video, on Rumble, when I first looked at a building from 24 miles away, I couldn’t tell if the top of it was above my eyesight or below. Once if did the legwork, to find elevations, then produce a video. I finally realized the top of the building was about 80 feet below my level line of sight.

In principle yes, for a very specific set of atmospheric conditions. But those conditions are (IIRC): Warmer, less dense, air near the surface, colder denser air above. That's inherently unstable (as warm air rises), and this refractive effect would have to be everywhere, all the time, and would have to be fine-tuned and stable to a very high degree to create the effect of an apparently curved surface as consistently as is observed. There's also all the other bits of evidence for the world being curved in all directions. Each of these it's also possible to create an alternative explanation for, explaining it as an illusion. But what you end up with is a very complicated, often somewhat self contradictory, model of a flatworld that is full of stacked up natural illusions somehow finely tuned to make it act like it's curved in all directions. Practically and philosophically, since you end up having to treat the world as if it's curved anyway (to actually do things like astronomy, line-of-sight communications, or long distance travel etc) the curve-surface model ends up being more useful and less fuss to use. The flat-world model only makes more sense if you're starting with the assumption it's flat, and insisting everything must fit that, and you end up treating it like it's in-effect curved anyway, because that's how it acts on scales of more than a few Km.

If you want to get technical, the horizon *_itself_* debunks flat earth. If the Earth was flat, we should be able to see to the limits of atmospheric extinction (visibility) barring other obstructions. So all the pictures flat earthers take looking out over the water should show the water making a nice gradient as it blends into the same color as the sky. Too bad flat earthers don't actually know what their own "reality" would be if it actually existed. Then again, they aren't flat earthers so much as globe/science deniers.

Pretty sure flerftards will think that there are shenanigans going on because the nose of the plane is pitched up but the plane isn't gaining altitude. They just can't fathom flight dynamics and forces. I'm not sure why it is such a difficult concept to grasp - a positive AoA created by the pitch of the nose, generates (increased) lift which directly balances out the weight of the plane thus keeping the plan flying level, or more accurately, at a particular elevation. No pilot or auto pilot is continuously adjusting the nose down to follow the curve of the earth - the plane does that as a by product of flying at a particular elevation. Great flerf killer HUD clips and dare I say, crims better watch out in the future!
