Honestly a big issue with valhalla is how non functional stealth was. Hopefully they fixed that in mirage (considering is the same engine and all). That's the most important thing to me!

I like and really appreciate that they attempt to make an actual Assassin's Creed (as weird as it might sound because it should be the bare minimum). But what is the point of returning to the roots if they just do it for one game? That's the only real thing that really bugs me about this game. Plus the fact that he is teleporting during that Assassin focus ability, I think that Assassin Creed Mirage understands Assassins Creed or it at least tries to. The Story-Trailer looks promising and I genuinely like the direction they are heading with the story showing us Basims internal struggles and dealing with the creed and it's hipocrisies.

I have a feeling that this is Ubisoft's attempt to go back to an annual release cycle for Assassin's Creed. But rather than pump out similar games every year like we used to see we're going to see genres cycled through. The classic formula, the RPG formula, and a new experimental formula (which seems to be Codename Hexe). If you look at Ubisoft's financial situation and how they seem to be planning their future, that seems like the path they're targeting. If it works out well they make all parts of their fanbase happy and are able to get a lot more money out of the brand than they are currently getting.

It’s the animus. He isn’t teleporting, I think it’s to portray that he moves so fast that the animus struggles to keep up with him, resulting in what appears to be teleportation. Clearly Ubisoft couldn’t be bothered or didn’t have to time to create an animation that rivals Arkham Knight in terms of badassery, so they did this.

Outside that a lot of fans wanted something like this again. Ive read somewhere that Mirage was actually going to be a DLC for Valhalla, but they had too much ideas and it was too different than Valhalla offered. So if thats true, it does make sense why they are going back. I think they did a goodjob with Origins, it was full of new stuff but in terms of story/character and gameplay is still had the assassins vibes. Which they lost in Odyssey and Valhalla.

For Assassin's Focus, I think we should give Ubisoft Bordeaux critical, but positive feedback to make it like the Fear Takedowns from the Arkham series. We should also urge them to add features like manual ejects and manual jumps. If we make a shout loud enough then Ubisoft Bordeaux surely will add these features on release or on a future game pass. It's all about how we go about these things. We as the fanbase and community of Assassin's Creed should influence the game that's being made for us, and the team at Bordeaux seems to be a part of this community, but we will have to make a splash to get their attention. I'd try to do something, a sort of a campaign, but I cannot because my influence is not nearly as big enough as other AC influencers, but I can leave this statement here so that someone may act, which might lead to a domino effect.

Mirage may not completely understand Assassin's Creed, but it's definitely a step in the right direction compared to Valhalla and Odyssey. As you said, Mirage's biggest hurtle is that it's a game trying to recapture what made the original games so great while running on the engine that more or less ruined the franchise. I truly think the future of the franchise actually hinges on this game. Not the future of the franchise's continuation, but rather its identity. I have always believed that Assassin's Creed can succeed as an RPG, but it has to be done correctly. I think Egypt was the biggest map an Assassin's Creed game should have ever had. It had 3 major cities with enough in between to keep things interesting in terms of movement and exploration. Odyssey and Valhalla had too much space in between cities, and anything that filled that space was too small. It was small villages with little to no verticality, or caves, or some kind of outpost with no real reason for being there other than to to exist as something to do. While the southern most part of Origins' map was literally just barren desert, everything north of that felt deliberately placed to offer something meaningful. If Mirage does well, it will likely inform a lot about how Codename Red and Codename Hexe are executed. They run on a new engine, so if this does well, that engine may be refined to execute some of Mirage's idea more effectively.

On the filter. I think it is a simple attempt to add replayability along with more fleshed out black box missions. The things Ubi will judge this game on are playtime, completion%, player retention. That is what matters in the live service future of AC. If a blue filter that probably took a dev a couple days can get players to do a 2nd playthrough or just spend a few more hours replaying missions in blue it is a good return on investment, almost genius.

I compare it to the legacy skins and it makes sense. Wearing Edwards outfit in Egypt doesn't ruin anything, yes its kinda nostalgic but its just an option, a skin/cosmetic for my character the same way the blue filter is a skin/cosmetic for the way the game looks.

I don't think this is "return the the roots"...i see it as one last time, one last hurrah, poor final goodbye to everything that was good with Assassin's Creed. It seems like Mirage exists in its own bubble as extension to Valhalla in a way. Codename Jade was also just announced (mobile thing) with flashy magical combat moves and weapons it seems - definitely already far off the "roots". Next big one in line is Japan ( i guess) one we seen tiny teaser and i imagine a massive game, a child of Odyssey and Valhalla that took steroids at some point. It will be marketed yet again as "being a ninja, or being a samurai" instead of being an assassin in AC game. To go to the roots they need to sorta reset everything, all the things and pieces of the story so far, put on table and make a trilogy games around that, new characters, new setting, rebuild from ground up using good story pieces of the past...everything needs to be build around only that so that you have again strong foundation for future games to connect too.

My thoughts on the marksmen shooting the eagle could be explained by way of Basim's story based notoriety. He compromises the creed, and therefore himself, and his eagle also becomes a target. The bird mechanic makes no sense at all, but we don't see his bird in Valhalla, so having him be shot down towards the end of the main story would make perfect sense, and then it would be a really good way for Ubisoft to get rid of the birds altogether. Yes we loved Senu, but we loved her because we loved Bayek, not because she made for a good game mechanic that made any sense whatsoever apart from "bird drone"

The question is not if it "does" understand AC, but if it "will". The gameplay looks, well, playable. Parkour reminds me more of Origins than Valhalla because there are more things to climb on. I do not believe it is a terrible parkour system but just a convenient one. I would change it to something closer to Unity's or an upgraded version of the Ezio Trilogy's system, but well this was ment as a DLC so yeah... I love that now when you perfectly parry, it rewards you with instant kill. It rewards the players for taking an interest into learning the system, I can respect that. Plus it reminds me of instant counter kills in older games, taking into account that in this game you might as well not be a health tank compared to enemies since the Devs called Basim a glass cannon but that remains yet to be seen. So gameplay-wise, I see that it understands Assassin's Creed, yes. All that remains now is to wait and see how much the plot understands AC. All this in a sentence...so far, so good.

Don't you think the parkour feeling is exactly the same as Ezio trilogy? I am debating myself in that. Because for me it's looks the same placement of stuff the same buildings and the same movements just a bit slower I think. I am not saying it is bad but I was expecting a refined version of that like you said. I think he climbed more like Ezio than Bayek. (Edit) I mean no, you are right. Climbing the tower looks like the newer games, but the running part for me it was like I was seeing Ezio but in a different skin and with autopilot on. Idk this stuff is very very tricky to get right even us don't know exactly what we want 😅

My problem with the focus ability is exactly as you out it. It just looks like teleportation. Don't get me wrong its still pretty cool, reminds me of the Middle Earth games but in an AC context I'd like to actually see someone do something that could be percieved as super human but is actually just as Basim is, in a state of extreme focus and not just teleporting around. Arkham City did an incredible job to implmenet this exact mechanic with their fear takedown where Batman quickly dashes across the room disabling the threats in a given area which can be upgraded from 3 takedowns to 5 or 6 throughout the game. It was defintiely ridiculous in concept for batman to be outspeeding bullets and speed blitzing a room of guards without any resistance but to actually see him move whilst doing this and not just teleport around really captivated players. If Mirage implement this instead of their instant teleport animation I will be thoroughly impressed

That's meant to be the next step in the RPG AC formula, but the looks of it, it will probably be a stealth RPG game. After that, AC Hexe (set during the Witch Trials rumoured to be in Germany) will be more horror stealth according to rumours and hints from Ubisoft. It looks like the parkour consists of holding the leftstick forward and navigating linear paths that they've laid out for you to traverse the city. As oppose to being creative, inputting various button combinations to perform different maneuvers for flow and faster traversal. Its cool that they're going back, but add to it. We've already seen bench assassinations, whistle in bushes, sleep darts, ledge assassinations. Add new mechanics, spice it up. Maybe hired mercenaries using social stealth to try and hunt you down. Air, ledge, and hidden assassinations. But, Basim seems to use two of them here around 340 years before hand. I know they're included for gameplay and what would the game be without them? But, I can just imagine Altair, as the mentor of the Assassins, explaining these new techniques to everyone only for them to say they've been using those for centuries.

a way they could explain the "teleportation" is maybe that it doesnt understand how to render the djinn/loki powers? maybe there will be one or two abilities that the djinn provides to basim which may have "poorly rendered" the effects that are surrounding basim? kind of a cop out if ubi goes a route like that but if its unexplaind you're right that it might as well be teleportation.

In regards to the bird 1. We can't assume this is Basims first job. So the enemy could expect he's coming at this point, recognize that Basim uses a messenger bird of sorts to call out troop positions. Much like.... 2. Bayek, who came before him, who also had a bird, who was at first a Medjay with a long career of Assassin work afterwards. His enemies as well may have noted the bird and started placing archers to shoot his and others like it down. TLDR- Archers do make sense.
@masterchief6162

Didn’t they specifically say that the demo starts off right after his first target assassination? And if it’s so obvious that the eagle is an assassin drone that needs to be assassinated then why don’t they target the bird in Valhalla? You could argue that the difference of location could have an effect but I think the more realistic reason is that they wanted to bring back eagle vision but they couldn’t have the eagle exist without some sort of nerf because of how overpowered that ability is. After all they are trying to return to the roots.

@Master Chief If they did then that only adds credence to my first point. Also we're talking about a dev (Ubisoft) who's kinda making it up as they go along since AC1. We can't assume they knew they were going to need to do this. Otherwise they would have archers in Valhalla too.

For my point and perspective, seeing AC for the last few years, it has bring a lot of nostalgia for the community, but I say that AC mirage does bring the actual context of Assassin´s creed, you see that it does bring the War of the Hidden Ones with the Order of the ancients, but we are taking the life of a Hidden one, doing actual assassinations against members of the order, as in Valhalla, we are just taking control of a viking doing assassinations for hire, if that makes sense, like, what was the point bringing the hidden ones in AC Valhalla, and still not get a story of an assassin, and still the gameplay does quite a bit of the new feautures, but I think that if they did shown a Story mission, then it would spoil of what we are gonna do in the mission when we get our hands in the game, missing the whole point of being hyped to play the whole story mission, and I see the point that bringing a teleportation it´s not a good decision, because it would be miss the point of being an actual assassin gameplay, not having features of the Animus effect, and putting the fear takedown of Arkham series and apply to the assassin focus of Basim, but we have to get closer of the target, and that would make sense, I hope they hear the community after they finish the game.

My only issue is the Assassin focus ability, It functions like Fear factor in Arkham Knight, but in Arkham Knight, u can actually see the Animation u just teleport without even a strategic placement of the ability unlike in Arkham Knight, it looks very weird and it draws u out of the immersion in the game. Apart from that the city looks amazing and was built with parkour in mind even though the latter needs rework. Being an Arab, this is fascinating to me visiting one of the most amazing cities in our history and the accuracy in translating the feel and culture of the place. Moreover, the Arabic pronunciation is really good and it is gonna be especially brilliant to play it with Arabic audio. My only hope is that the story is engaging and good ,otherwise it would be a total disaster.

This feels like it was 100% intended to be an Assassin's Creed Valhalla DLC. Something happened early on or midway through the development of the game that they were told to make it a full game. At the same time It does feel like they're actually trying to go back to basics for this one. It has the classic tells of an Assassin's Creed game with the character models and expressions. They've never really gotten that down. Hopefully they'll pull thru and make a good game. Cause as of right now,.it's not looking too good

Ubisoft needs to completely reboot the Assassin's Creed series. They need to create a new grounded universe with some altered version of the same history. There shouldn't be immortal characters or any other ridiculous stuff. They should also get an interesting modern-day character like a better version of Desmond. The games need to be more connected to the new modern protagonist than Desmond for his games.

I just find it baffling how going back to the roots is such a hard task for a game that's literally part of the same franchise as the Ezio Trilogy and AC1. All they'd have to do is go back and see what made those games great, understand why many people love it and follow that. I guess it's hard to be passionate and dedicate significant amounts of time and patience to such a game when the artists and dev team is probably constantly pushed to the limits by the greed of the company.

Slowly removing these rpg elements(resources, enemy bars etc). Getting a trilogy with Basim would be interesting bc with each game they could improve and make the parkour more unity like. Story wise it could mean Basim is becoming a better assassin so he becomes more stylish and smoother throughout the games!

I've seen people get hyped about AC titles, only for the game to come out and us being disappointed. Initially I saw the general reaction of the community to Mirage and thought that the vast majority of people were just making the same mistake of believing that Ubisoft actually cares about AC. But I must say, since looking at the trailers with more attention I'm starting to see that the pieces that make an AC game might be coming together. And with that followed by this video, you make a good argument, we need to give Ubisoft some pats on the back for this xD Them as a company first gauge our initial reception and then I assume they'll look at sales, mainly. The more we show appreciation for what they're doing the more they'll think there really are customers waiting for a more "back to the roots" game. When I first saw the very realistic and historically accurate teleportation, I was happy!! It looked cool, AC has always had sci-fi elements, so it didn't bother me too much but especially I was just glad to see the devs trying out new things!! I definitely don't want this game to just be old AC all over again, things like that chain assassination and the marksman shooting at the eagle (the whole eagle gimmick was cool in Origins imo, but it's overused now and it dulls the gameplay when it comes to scoping enemies so I appreciate the devs deactivating it every now and then, regardless of whether or not it makes sense XD) I thought were really cool additions. I saw it as an attempt to actually create new mechanics by building on top of some of the things the previous titles have done. I think that's the spirit, there has to be a middle ground, not straight up just copy everything that has been done previously and not reinventing the wheel but actually continue to build upon the gameplay elements that are good. Another youtuber pointed out that they'd like to see the entire movement of Basim performing the whole chain kill and I changed my mind. I think if they did the chain kill like they used to do those combat combos in AC3 or 4, like a "mini stylized cutscene" that could be even cooler! But I'll take teleportation. I want to mention that yeah to me AC isn't just there existing assassins, it's the whole package, the tone of the game, story, lore, and I'd like a proper modern world too (if possible, I suppose ;-; ) My opinion on answering your question (and ignoring the possibility of higher ups pulling the wrong strings, as they tend to do), no, I really didn't think they did. On trailers alone, more recently I think that maybe they do, more leaning to thinking they might not understand it. But what I didn't know is that it's actually Ubisoft Bordeaux working on Mirage. Like I said in a previous comment, I think AC needs some new devs to take the lead of this franchise, as the old teams don't seem to understand AC, in my eyes. This makes things a lot different. I have a ton of respect for game developers, and they not only deserve the chance to make a good game, but they shouldn't be underestimated. They've earned this chance, and so far they haven't done anything to really tip me of for this being a cash grab. Not to get all Dutch Van der Linde in here but I'm starting to have some faith. I'd say that so far, it looks somewhat likely that they understand AC!! (I wouldn't quite say probable yet, somewhat likely is where I'm standing ahah). But even if the game isn't perfect, there can always be "a second Mirage". It was mostly AC2 that took the world by storm, but we wouldn't have that game if we hadn't supported the first Assassin's Creed when it showed up. Not buying it on day one tho xDD
