In east java you can go to : Ijen and de djawatan(banyuwangi) Bromo, tumpak sewu Central java i really recommend to : Yogyakarta, magelang, dieng West java : Ciwidey, lembang, pangandaran, situ gunung(sukabumi) I hope you got a lot more time cause theres many more to visit in java island

I have taken a bus from Seattle north to a coastal town and mid-way I had to take another bus w/o paying extra as well. So it happens not only in Bali but in the US as well.

If you want to hitchhiking in Indonesia you need to go to the national road (with yellow mark on the road) or to the provincial road. There's many truck driver will help.

hi, I'm from sumatra island, been traveling to java, bali, lombok and some sulawesi and borneo. its true javanese and balinene ppl (they are basically siblings, same anchestor) are the sweetest and the kindness of all indonesian ppl, they have the most cultured societies of all indonesian. we sumatrans tend to be bit tribalism, cautious to outsiders, most of our anchestor live in jungle, full of wild animals and hostile tribes, its also applied to most of borneo ppl, papuan and the rest of indonesia, java and bali are unique, they have advantages, like location, time and resources to develop rich and civilized culture, some historians say its bc of vulcanos, rice and fertile soil. if you guys observe the behaviour of orangutans and Celebes/sulawesi crested macaque, they have similar conclusion, tend to be docile, emphatic, relatively harmless not only to human but also among themself, scientists say its bc of the abundance of fruits, food and relatively low competition.
