I have trouble talking about franchises that only get ports of very old releases and don't get new games. It barely can count as "alive" since it's living only through the nostalgia appeal of its golden age. It's a kind of zombie state. It's not considered valuable to gain a new game but still is convenient to use for retro rereleases and not being abandoned. Also Capcom is known for these nostalgia exploits for a long time, and not only with MM. Including the fact that very rarely the sales of those products have any important result. Ok, the video shows that MM11 apparently was made thanks to the sales of a collection... but that doesn't always happen, or even most of times. And there's still the chance that the guy wasnt being honest but trying to motivate the fans to keep buying more collections in the hope of getting new games. Like, now they are even near running out of options for MM collections and nothing happened. Not a hint of interest in even a remake of a classic game. Just like Capcom's arcade game collections that keep coming out never led to a new game. So it's nothing but abusing the hopelessly good willing fans with nostalgia exploit.

The thing is that X9, after so much time passed, became kind of inviable or inconvenient, and that situation aggraves more with time. Since a long time now I've been wondering if the best path for X wouldn't be actually a reboot-remake of this story arc of X7-X8. And then, with the context properly set to the audience, the true continuation would be made more meaningful. Maybe it would be better to "overwrite" and abandon those two embarrassments that were X7 and 8. Speaking for myself, I refused to play both to beat even half of the bosses, and I'm a big fan from the early 90s games. Those two PS2 games are absolutely shameful and I'll never respect them. Like, if I'm not mistaken X7 was released in the same time of Onimusha 2, and X8 in the same time of DMC3 and RE4... but they look like from a much smaller and amateurish company. I 100% agree. The thing is, while the series isn't providing for us in the way we were wanting/expecting, Mega Man is in a much better position than most of Capcom's other IPs. I mean, the series has proven its profitability to Capcom in a vast multitude of ways since the classic legacy collection. It's very likely that a new game will come EVENTUALLY. The real problem lies within the management of the series rather than if it's just straight up a dead IP or not. It it was dead, then we wouldn't have gotten so many collections, merch, plug n plays, crossovers, a cartoon, mobile game, a movie in the works for Netflix, etc. It's just that Capcom isn't focusing on the most important aspect of this series... Original games. In their mind, they've been providing us a ton of content, but they don't see just how lame it is to be getting everything BUT the one thing we truly want. TL;DR: "Mega Man is Dead" is overdramatizing the situation, but there's definitely an issue in the release/content management of the series.

I don’t think Capcom hates Megaman, in order for you to hate something you have to care about it, but with Capcom they are just indifferent towards Megaman and has always shown they don’t really care. After the release of the 1st Megaman they didn’t even have any sequels planned out for it, if it had been up to Capcom itself the series would have died out back then, the only reason we even got Megaman 2 is because the developers for Megaman 1, were still very passionate and dedicated to making a better game than the first one, that they used their free time in between other Capcom projects, just so that they could develop Megaman 2, and when that game had a pretty good version made, Capcom released it without thinking it would even sell good, but they were pleasantly surprised with the results, which is why they basically milked the series to death, and if Capcom had cared about the series then they would have given more funding and even additional develop time, in order to make the games a better quality than what they usually were, but unfortunately that was not the case, and the series as a whole feels rushed and unfinished, since a lot of games do have good ideas and concepts, but because of a lack of proper development time they just compare to early access games, like the ones you can find on Steam, and the worst of it all was that Capcom basically made Megaman compete with itself, since each of the subseries basically rivaled itself, and it was crazy for Capcom to release so many different Megaman games within a year, and then expect fans to be able to afford them all, when the audience most of these games were selling to were basically kids and teens, and its not like that audience is part of the work force which means that the series’ lack of sales is none else’s but Capcom’s itself but they will never admit to it. I can appreciate that the collection games are being brought to modern consoles and systems, but I wish that they weren’t called collections, since they are missing many games such as the X collections missing stuff like, X Command Mission or Maverick Hunter X and the Xtreme Gameboy color games, while classic is missing the Gameboy games and even stuff like Megaman & Bass, but nobody seems to talk about that stuff, and are ok with Capcom just doing whatever they feel like, and then trying to defend them in most cases too, when if they are trying to sell us something, then they should be more convincing, and we should expect more rather than less.

I don't think the Covid argument stands up anymore for the following reasons: 1. Mega Man games, by your own admission, are lower budget titles that don't take too much effort to make. 2. Da Virus doesn't seem to be stopping them from pushing out more Resident Evil, Monster Hunter and Street Fighter, so remote workers aren't a problem. In fact, I'd go as far as to say remote work has actually raised worker's efficiency overall across the board, the problem is that Capcom doesn't want to do it. If they did, they would. Really, all we all really want is for Capcom to tell us what the hell is happening. They don't have to communicate TOO much, just give us a poke every anniversary to let us know what their Rock plans are. It's not hard to spare a few minutes to issue a statement on the series status.

Capcom doesn't hate Mega Man for sure, but you also can't really feel like they care about it right now either. Covid and other extenuating circumstances has really put the franchise in one hell of a tight spot. Now were looking at a scenario where a frighteningly similar amount of time will have passed between new full releases as the "Dark Age", but with the critical difference that this time there has been a more significant build up of fan expectation from the scraps of info we've learned both from official sources and the data leak mean people know SOMETHING was supposed to be coming. We're about to reach a dangerous intersection where unexpectedly raised fan expectations due to a lengthend dev cycle, is going to meet with what Capcom has been working on for roughly the last 5 years, and while there's hope that those things can merge relatively smoothly into a single path, there's an ever growing risk of a bloodbath of a collision the longer it takes for Capcom to show up. Of course that's assuming Taisen is still coming at all. Frankly, it depends on how much money they sank into the project by the time trouble began to hit. Remember, Capcom is a company where projects NEED people to champion them to get pushed through (even RE/MonHun, but there's no shortage of talent chomping at the bit to touch those), and Taisen very likely lost its champion when Tsuchiya got put on SF and then left. Unless they put too much in to back out now, there's a strong possibility that the reason we haven't heard much is that the project had the plug pulled, and they won't say a thing about it because they know damn well how bad the optics is gonna be if they have to announce that another MM game got canceled AGAIN. You can hold out hope for Taisen if you really want to, but you all need to be braced for the very real possibility that at this point there may be nothing on the horizon for a while, pehaps even longer than the old "Dark Age" at the rate we're headed, and they very likely won't speak a word about it until they have something else to show.

I did leave a comment on Revo's video where I was airing out my woes and frustrations. I do feel pretty guilty of neglecting the fact that the dry spells and time between releases did highlight a lot of other things around the franchise and other games influenced by it. It did give me some time to give some of the past Mega Man ga+mes a good go and really come to get to grips their specific nuiances for those I'm familiar with and finding gold with those I've not touched much at all. On top of the stuff like looking forward to what comes out of Gunvolt or Gravity Circuit among looking back at Rokko-Chan, Touhou parody fan games as well as Rosenkurezstilette (I still struggle with that name) has given me new found appreciation of those games among seeing various fan works and what not blossom. Hell I'll even say seeing that humble bundle threw me off guard like damn that's (mostly) a steel! ...Though again I still can't neglect the grievences. Capcom dropping the ball with a lot of their other franchises big and small doesn't help along with the backlash fans have given with relative unity when it comes to the Enigma DRM thing. I do agree that it's an over reaction but more so on both the fans part as well as Capcoms own part. Just slap the player whoever had the funny nude Chun-Li mod on the wrist and leave it be. I guess though it's hard to not be more frustrated by Capcom over so much more than just Mega Man though, I feel that frustration when it comes to so many other things with Capcom. The lack of follow ups or interest in stuff like Breath of Fire, Onimusha, Rival Schools, Darkstalkers, etc., the heavy focus on the big three and wanting to have consistencies with selling over 10 million with each of those. Heck it shocks me that Devil May Cry 5 has done super well and has become hella iconic in its own right and yet we're still wondering where the hell Devil May Cry is going to go from here. It's almost as if now with Capcom there just isn't enough cooks in the kitchen to keep maintaining everything all at once with the big culprit being to try and keep up as a AAA game studio. And it's pretty ludicrous to think even hiring more people would work since there's probably so many jobs they can push out until their company funds can't be reached at anymore. Mega Man is definitely not the only culprit to this, but for sure it's the front runner in terms of wondering what the heck is even the plan at Capcom. EDIT: I did leave it pretty late to edit this but I've since removed the comment from that video. Not just out of trying to be more sensible in approach but also just... YEAH.

...And whopping two full fortress stages. They were great, but I felt like there was so little content.
@carlosaugusto982111 ай бұрын
@@michag798 One of the big obstacles of the franchise in my opinion is that small content scale. Because the games try to stick too hard to the same format set by the early games. And those games were too short even for that time on the NES... There were already games with much more content. But MM was carried by the revolutionary gameplay concept and the charisma of the characters (better developed in the 90s) and the music. And it seems the community became too inclined to "retro" and defensive about fresh and different ideas, meaning that the games need to continue repetitive, formulaic, and too similar to the early ones to hope to please the community. But how about the outside world from the fan base bubble? How willing is the general consumer to pay so much for waves of repetitive short barebones games? What are the success chances of this ancient model to work nowadays? In the 80s to early 00s that release model was tolerated, but things are not that easy anymore. And the thing is that there are cheap (in price) indie games with more content than the average MM and early MMX game. So that means Capcom will be kinda abusing the consumer by releasing games with "cheap indie" scale (or lower) for a bigger price, just because of MM's name. Again: how willing would the general public feel about this?

Nowadays it's generally accepted that only a few genres can have repetitive sequels, when that tolerance was broader in the 80s and 90s. MM games are repetitive, reuse assets, and used to come out every 1-2 year. That release model is harder to be accepted today outside the circle of really hardcore MM fanboys. And Capcom actually managed to follow the modern direction and change some classic franchises like Street Fighter, which also was managed like MM in the 90s... With yearly sequels and cycles of asset recycling. SF5 must have dlc but it's not yearly releases anymore. But that's not something that can be followed by MM sadly.

It's a real bummer the guy who was responsible for R11 to become a reality left the company but given Capcom now does everything in house and doesn't flood us with ports and remakes all the damn time, maybe there's still hope for our blue boy, whichever incarnation they choose. I did the survey yesterday and gave all my votes to MegaMan. I'd welcome enhanced remakes of 1-3 as I still really like Powered Up but my prayers lean more towards 12, Shooting Star 4 with the plot as originally planned AND MOST IMPORTANTLY Legends 3. If not that, at least Remakes of Legends 1, 2 and Tron Bonne with modernized - non tank - controls and a graphics style which looks fresh but stays true to its roots.

Same. I was never fond of the “Remember MM2” mindset (yes I know there’s irony considering my pfp) and I’m glad for the most part that’s died off unlike other series follow similar practices. 9 and 10 were okay but man, what I wouldn’t have given to see a “proper” version of those games that pushed the series to the new stage like 11 did.
@sevensvn539111 ай бұрын
@@redstreak9430 I don't really get what you mean by Mega Man 2 mindset. I'm going to address the difference in Mega Man's moveset, since that's what most people mean gameplay-wise from what I've seen. I personally feel that the charge shot, in a number of prior entries, was powerful enough to discourage weapon usage more than it already likely is for a number of players. With this being cranked to the max in Mega Man 5 in my experience. The slide, at least some would say, allowed for a lot of enemies to not be engaged with to the same degree due to being able to take a hit then slide past them, or things akin to that. It might have allowed for you to be a lot less committal and potentially more reckless, which might reduce the inclination for a player to strategize further. In Mega Man 10, I feel that the lack of charged buster and slide for Mega Man forces the player to be more thoughtful and strategic with how they navigate through the level since they can't just slide out or past as Mega Man, and his base firepower isn't enough to just proceed without getting hit in a number of instances. I think that that kind of forces the player to either A)Stubbornly try to do it with just the buster anyway, possibly with Shop purchases. or B)Stop and think about how they can use their weapons to overcome a given situation. Out of all of the main 11 classic games, I feel like 10 pushed me to do B the most, and through that I discovered a lot of neat uses for the weapons. For instance, Thunder Wool's lightning destroys met bullets, meaning that I can just set one, then lure a met into the lightning and not take any bullet damage myself, whereas if I used the buster I'd risk the met getting some shots in. In another instance, I figured out that to anything else the Suzies(Red eye enemies that move from wall to wall) are very damage spongy, and that if I tried to take them out manually I'd be at a higher risk of damage. I then realized that Rebound Striker has the potential to do 5 damage at a maximum, which is five times as much as the buster if I recall correctly, and likely enough to one shot the enemy. So I figured out a trajectory, and one-shotted the enemy as well as the ones near it afterward. With that being said, I won't dogmatically say that simplifying Mega Man's moveset is an objectively good thing, since good or bad when it comes games is considered by a number to be fairly subjective. However, what I WILL say is that there might be more thought behind simplifying Mega Man's base abilities from a design perspective than just "Remember MM2" in the case of MM10, and that the simplification could just be achieving a difference in gameplay that appeals to devs and certain players who enjoy or prefer it for reasons I alluded to above. Edit: Wording, Grammar, etc.
@redstreak943011 ай бұрын
@@sevensvn5391 well, it’s not just simplifying the moveset but also the way the game was presented. Everything just seemed to be motivated by pandering to people who only knew that specific game with how it was executed especially considering it’s the sequel to 8 (and Bass to an extent). Like I know people meme on the anime cutscenes of that game because of the bad localization process but I still would have liked to see how it properly built on what the previous games. It’s especially jarring if, for example, you’re playing through the Legacy Collections and you see how the series is evolving from what they can do with the graphics to the story presentation to Megaman slowing building up his moveset and then you get to 9 and all of that is gone (at least they borrowed from the latter NES games with the story aspect I’ll give them that). Even X5 and X6 still felt like they built on what X4 did despite dropping the cutscenes as an example. At least with 10 I did feel like they introduced elements that made it stand out with stuff like the ability to play as Protoman and Bass (yes I know PM was in 9 but he was more of a bonus mode vs an actual playable character). Then again, that game was supposedly using rejected ideas from ZXC so that might be why that game felt more diverse with what you could do. And yeah I do think either they should have built better levels around all of Megaman’s abilities for those who don’t want to use the slide and charge and do a weapons only run or at least make that an option/unlockable like, say, Sonic Mania did with the Instashield and Super Peel Out. The point is I remember when 11 was first announced, my initial reaction was praising the fact we’re finally moving beyond the 8 bit artstyle and evolving from what 8/Bass gave us. And I think overall that game did a good job of keeping the movesets diverse in addition to the time gear gimmick.

Important to note that Capcom once forgot SF. The franchise went through a similar situation after SF3 Third Strike from 99, then new games stopped except retro rereleases... Until SF4 from 08 turns out in a massive success, which restored trust in the franchise and in investment on this ancient genre of 2d fighting games. That's to show that even SF, one of the most important franchises in gaming history, a pioneer that reached tremendous commercial and cultural success since the early 90s, even this powerful franchise started looking inviable in Capcom's eyes in the late 90s and it was "semi" abandoned for nine years. All because of RE in the late 90s and then DMC in the early 00s. The thing is that MM11 didn't make the strong impression of SF4 that fully convinced Capcom to give it more attention. So the franchise is still being more or less treated like SF during its nine years hiatus in the 00s.

Besides there's only 2 series that still don't have theirs: Starforce and Legends, and those series are curious because they only have at least 3 games (not counting the different versions od Starforce). ZX was a unique case by putting them with MM Zero, mostly because ZX comes right after MM Zero, and share a lot of elements to be consider part of it. I think Legends deserves a remake instead of a legacy collection, just the 1st game to start, or the main 2 at the same time,, but that's another story. I think the possibilities for a new megaman title are very high to be MM 12. And even that they mention that they're interested in adding more contetc to X Dive offline, i don't think they will do anything anymore to the game. For X9 that's a very... VERY fragile thing, because the comunity don't want just MMX9, they want their MMX9, something that mandatory explain what happened to Axl (obviously) and that conects or MM Zero with something of the Elf Wars. And in my opinion, that's not gonna happen. If X9 manages to show up, is gonna continue from what was left on X8, explaining what happened to Axl, creating a new story from there, and that's it. The elf wars are already explained in the Zero games, and in the Rockman Zero complete works. So a game that focus on the Elf Wars is not necessary, and if they make it, is not gonna be X9. Will be part of the Zero series, and will the equivalent of "Crisis Core" to FF7, or "Torna the golden country" to Xenoblade 2: a tragic story already told in the games, but with the details of what happened.

Heck, we cant even get digital versions of the Legends games natively on the PS store, only legal way to play them is to track down the physical discs which are being sold for insane prices... We can't even get officially licensed merch to ship here from US based stores due to "licencing issues", come on man what licencing issues!? Freakin' sucks being a megaman fan here!

Personally I think its all those problems... AND THEY DON'T ADVERTISE THE BLUE BOMBER. I don't know if they expect hype to just appear out of nowhere, but they need to make games... TO MAKE HYPE. Nintendo, as old as they are, EVEN THEY KNOW THAT. Why was TOTK so successful? They hyped the damn game for years. Advertisement is the key here. And they don't do it with their smaller properties. I get they don't wanna burn out people. Absolutely. So, just don't make Mega Man games every year?

MEGAMAN is one of the greatest intellectual properties of the 1980's which ISN'T owned by Nintendo. I didn't realize it until playing through the entire Legacy/X/ZX collection, just how good it was. I was shocked how they evolved the story from the MM games to the Battle Network games on to the ZX games. The downside, however, is that they had to make these games more accessible and thus EASIER for the general public to play them. The work they did on Mega Man 11 is remarkable when you look back at Mega Man X6 and X7.

I actually think Capcom is in the same boat with mega Man as Sega is with Sonic. Both companies don't know what to do to modernize these franchises. When I say modernize. I don't mean to dumb down the difficulty or make the franchises some kind of joke. I just mean to potentially transform the games to be more digestible for the current gamer base while still preserving the core and essence of the franchises. When I look at something like God of war and how they changed that but kept the core of the game, this is what I'm talking about. As far as mega Man is concerned, I would really love to see them go back to another attempt with the 3D mega Man like mega Man Legends. I think they could pull it off. It's just a confidence thing.

Mega Man is in a far worse state than sonic. Sonic got 3 games, recieved a TV show and 2 movies in the first half of the 2020s alone, plus concerts for the series music. Megaman outside of x dive has been pure and utter neglect.

It is true that video games grew greatly between mid 90's to 2010 However, the real reason individual game sales were lower was due to just simply less customers. Prior to the "Internet Social Gaming Era" people used to buy games they saw in magazines, saw box artwork or even simply the back of the product box. Back then people bought what they wanted regardless of what their friends were getting. Since the Internet era has begun everyone buys the same games to be in on the discussion whether it be online multiplayer or "spoilercast." An example of the Internet age effect: PS1 highest seller Gran Turismo 10.85 Million PS2 highest seller GTA San Andreas 17.33 Million post Internet era Nintendo Wii highest seller Mario Kart Wii 37.38 Million PS4 highest seller Horizon Zero Dawn 24 Million Nintendo Switch highest seller Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 60.58 Million. As the previous sentence shows that people now tend to cluster around big titles more than in the pre Internet past where you would not see 20 million + sales unless it was a pack in. Those pre Internet age video game sales were spread more widely over a range of franchises. In short no 20 million + sales but more 2 to 5 million sellers. The problem for franchises like Mega Man, Okami, Viewtiful Joe and Onimusha have is that people who purchase Resident Evil or Monster Hunter in droves don't have the time or money to get around to them. Thus Capcom has no real incentive to make them even if they are profitable as they chew up resources and time to produce. An unfortunate circumstance to be sure.

I miss the days when entertainment companies could just put out a good product with a modest budget and be satisfied with making a decent profit. But with both movie studios and game companies, so much has shifted towards massive, eye-watering blowout projects that have to make triple their enourmous overblown budget to even be considered a success. Mega Man is an unfortunate casualty of this mindset, I feel. Because that just ain't Mega Man's thing. The games just don't have the type of gameplay or history to be billion dollar profit titles. And any attempt to change the gameplay enough to make it appeal to the masses would mean it didn't feel like Mega Man any more. Hopefully this trend of mass overspending in an effort to chase the next billion dollar title calms down at some point and more companies can be OK just putting out something with a reasonable development budget again. And not just remakes.

Starting to watch now, but I'm hoping you're going to analyse sales numbers, not just speculate on whether a company "hates" an IP of theirs as most fans do. Most people act as if there's tons of demand for Megaman, but they never back it up with receipts. I want Megaman, but I also want more actual information. How does Megaman sales compare to DMC, RE, SF and other franchises? We can't just complain if we're not actually buying it when it comes out. Edit: Ok, you put some numbers. Awesome.

Not to save you an hour but, the hardest thing for MEGAMAN fans to accept is that MEGAMAN has NEVER been a huge selling franchise so much so that they were surprised battle network collection did so well. Nobody knows what to do with IP tbh, in all honesty I think capcom needs to get the one step from Eden guys and do a battle network game and then get platinum to do an X Game but I digress I don’t think any mega man series has ever had 5 mil copies sold

I'm disappointed that we can only choose one favorite game and one game that influenced us. I hesitated between Darkstalkers, God Hand and Crimson Tears. I voted for Crimson Tears to give it some love, because I think it's been forgotten by a lot of players. and for the game that I would like to see remade I hesitated between Breath of Fire and Dino Crisis, but I voted for Breath of Fire knowing that a Dino Crisis Remake is the most logical thing to do with the graphics engine , RE Engine, after Resident Evil. while a 2DHD remake like the various games produced by Square Enix or like that of the first Star Ocean released recently is much less obvious for a publisher like Capcom.

I think the fact 11 sold more than any other game in the franchise, plus fans have been steadily demanding a sequel to Legends for over 2 decades - proves that fan interest in the franchise is stronger than it's EVER been, but Capcom still doesn't want to strike while the iron is hot for some reason.

Does Capcom hate Mega Man? I don't think so. When that conclusion's components are analyzed, the idea that Capcom hates the brand is nothing but conjecture. The sentiment requires one to do a _lot_ of excluding. Artbooks, cameos, themed DLC, collections, soundtrack releases, merchandise, and even entire games can find themselves excluded. For example, Mega Man X Dive might not have been the best Mega Man product ever made, but it _was_ a new idea for the series to try. The sins it is guilty of in being a gacha game might be unique for Mega Man, but they are common for the free-to-play model. I can honestly say that I've played games with a worse gacha system than X Dive. Even then, the pay-to-win aspect of X Dive was more to do with PvP than it was with PvE. As far as PvE was concerned, as soon as you had one good S Rank character, the game dramatically transformed more into one that functioned via gear score than gacha. It stands to reason that without the PvP and pay-to-win aspects, X Dive would effectively be only a gear score game. The idea, also, of what would convince people that Capcom _doesn't_ hate the brand is also strangely specific: Numbered sequels. REVO's video mentions one thing in its "ideas for Mega Man games" segment, he suggests that a numbered sequel to Rockboard of all things would be welcomed openly. This is in the same video where he dismisses games like Rockman Tennis, but I digress... He recites it in addition to "easy" things that "everybody" would totally go for. A game that bridges Classic and X together as stories, or one that answers what happened to Axl in X8 and also brings X into the Elf Wars part of the Zero series, or that one MMZ remake idea with Devil May Cry's combat mechanics. Lots of cool ideas, but inescapable from the sentiment they're attached to. As well, considering that people seemed to be hyped about the idea of an MMZ remake, many were surprisingly sour on the idea of the first three Mega Man games themselves potentially getting remade. Not helping is the fanaticism regarding Capcom's other popular brands. What does the success of Street Fighter, Resident Evil and Monster Hunter have to do with the state of the Mega Man brand? Absolutely nothing, and the constant bickering about how Capcom would _'rather serve them'_ feels less like a good faith criticism and more like bad faith jealousy. Worse yet, some even drag in other dormant Capcom brands as proof, and I'm left wondering if the goal of this outrage is really all that much about getting Mega Man a new game, or if Mega Man's "corpse" is being used as a rallying cry for a "CrapcomGate" or something. The more people I see swept up in the idea that Capcom hates Mega Man, the more I fear we'll actually see Mega Man die as a brand. Because the more these people are right about what fans do and don't want, the more the brand _will_ die, and it'd die by the hand of the people who claim to care about it more than the company that makes it.

The sad part is that too, they won't do another megaman let alone another ip that is not SF, RE, MH or the like if its not something they won't see as highly demanded, key word "they", since you see them claim ace atourney is getting more games, but this is just them saying crap for fans to be waiting for it.
