Social Security considers chiropractors, acupuncturists, massage therapists, naturopaths and other "non-western" health care providers as practitioners of "alternative medicine" and thus not "acceptable medical sources."
This means that diagnoses and treatment recommendations from your chiropractor or acupuncturist will not be given much weight in your Social Security disability case.
Does this mean that you should not seek treatment from your chiropractor, massage therapist or naturopath?
No, but it does mean that you should also seek care from and have medical records from an "acceptable medical source" like a medical doctor, psychologist or advanced nurse practitioner.
Treatment from an alternative medicine provider can show that you have sought treatment, which will show that there are not gaps in treatment.

Good morning Mr Ginsberg!! In my case I stopped only the really strong pain medication 💊 for a reason.. couldn’t cope with side effects it would put me in dangerous situations..being out even for short distances traveling to the doctor for example, worse than the pain in it self. ( side effects ) Still had to take it at the ER and ended affecting my stomach so bad. Wish the best to people staring this path. If you have degenerative disc disease, herniated disc, decrease painful range of motion, a positive straight leg rays, all done by a neurosurgeons examination, but you refuse to take an epidural injection and he says the only alternative would be a fusion in your back and you refuse that and the injections And you would just prefer to find a way to manage the pain naturally or as much as you can on your own that hurt your case epidural injections are not FDA approved and the thought of that terrifies me that an automatic denial I would appreciate any information you could give me thank you very much for sharing these videosthey’re very helpful

Thank you again for another informative video. I have been waiting for 1 1/2 yrs for a reconsideration appeal, I’ve contacted our state leadership and a few other avenues to get this matter sorted out, my question is? Is there anything else you can suggest for me to try ? I also call SSDI on a regular basis thinking they may get tired of me calling and maybe put some emphasis on my case but to no avail it doesn’t work.
