Honestly after thinking about this, it might be a fun idea to maybe try to get someone from a different card game (like Magic) to see how well they can do basically using card text to decipher rulings. I don't play Yu-Gi-Oh but I love to watch it but I do heavily play magic so I have fun pausing and trying to figure out how the rulings might break down
@hirukashiro59953 жыл бұрын
This is a very good idea but I am guessing that it would be very hard for them. For example, concepts like "miss timing" will NEVER be in your head until either someone tell you about it or you look it up from the rulebook/internet. I doubt anyone can suddenly know the "miss timing" just from reading the card text
@The0ryz3 жыл бұрын
@@hirukashiro5995 oh for sure, especially that one cuz that concept doesn't apply in something like Magic (the closest thing is something like t3fari and casting off another spells effect). But I think that might be a fun little way to kinda introduce those concepts to people who don't really play. I stopped playing Yu-Gi-Oh back when Ancient Sanctuary came out, so I'm suuuuper rusty but I like rules interaction things
@IamGrimalkin3 жыл бұрын
Someone whos a magic player and has never played yugioh might struggle with many decks' basic combos, nevermind the more obscure rulings. . For example, Salamangreat Spinny has the effect: "If you control a 'Salamangreat' monster other than 'Salamangreat Spinny' and this card is in your GY: You can Special Summon this card, but banish it when it leaves the field.". As part of the standard Salamangreat combo, you would summon back Spinny, use it to xyz summon Miragestallio, then link Miragestallio off. Naiively a Magic player might think Spinny gets banished (exiled) at some point during this combo, but it just ends up back in the graveyard. This is because becoming an xyz material doesn't count as leaving the field, but xyz materials are not on the field. . Another example would be in Shaddoll, which often play Super Poly. Super Poly's effect is: "Discard 1 card; Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, using monsters from either field as Fusion Material.". Maindeck Shaddoll monsters all have the effect: "If this card is sent to the GY by a card effect: {insert effect here}". Let's say you use Super Poly, discarding a Shadoll Hedgehog to fusion summon using Shadoll Beast and another monster as material. A Magic player might naively think both Beast and Hedgehog trigger here, but only Beast triggers. This is because Beast was sent as part of the effect, but Hedgehog was sent as part of the cost; and maindeck Shadoll monsters need to be sent by card *effect*.
@The0ryz3 жыл бұрын
@@IamGrimalkin well, yeah I mean people who've been playing Yu-Gi-Oh forever are kinda struggling to be fair lol. It's more just an idea to see how it could compare. Obviously some of the rulings are just really really hard to figure out, but I'd be curious if someone with an outside perspective could compare (or fail miserably)
@hi-i-am-atan3 жыл бұрын
@@IamGrimalkin they'd probably struggle with trigger effects _period._ unlike chains, the stack in mtg never "finishes building" - you can play cards and activate abilities at any point in the process of building and resolving the stack, provided you aren't in the middle of resolving a card or ability, and trigger abilities are triggered the _moment_ their conditions are met and added to the stack as soon as possible. which, as mentioned, is any point where a card or ability isn't in the middle of resolving in fact, they're added to the stack even if _the player doesn't want to activate them._ instead, optional trigger abilities are _optional to resolve._ which results in the kinda wonky effect where if that optional trigger ability has targets and / or multiple modes, you declare those things as you add the ability to the stack as normal, even if you don't actually intend to use the ability when the time comes so, yeah, missing the timing not only doesn't exist in mtg - it flat-out _can't,_ because the mechanics that lead to it in ygo are just non-existent in mtg due to the difference in how they handle playing and resolving cards as a response

@NoirEmperor183 жыл бұрын
Yes. Yugioh makes sense 🤡
@Diwalia3 жыл бұрын
Exactly what he said. It may lose only 500 and burn for 500 since you can’t have a negative attack value, but that doesn’t change the “lose 700 ATK” modifier applied to the card.
@thestoneskipper33773 жыл бұрын
So the value of a monster's stat can't go below 0. But if a monster remembers that it should be below 0, then if you activate an effect that would raise its stat again, it has to cover that bonus amount that it lost, before it can start going above 0 again. I think Coder did a good job explaining it. If you have, for instance, a 1000 atk point monster that then loses 1500 atk by card effects, for the purpose of battle etc, it would be 0. It can't be negative in that regard. But if you then tried to bring it back up using cards like Ego Boost, Blustering Wind, Axe of Despair etc, it doesn't add back up from 0, it adds back up from -500, because of the extra -500 Atk that it lost. Does that make any sense?
@jayd.doubledubs3 жыл бұрын
This, funnily enough, used to come up in Duel Links a lot with stuff like Wall of Disruption. Monsters can't have negative attack, but they remember how much extra attack they should have lost. So in the case with Dragong in the video, it would have 0 attack but remember that its attack was reduced by an extra 200. If you were to equip it with Axe of Despair, for example, its attack would go up to 800, not 1000, because Axe of Despair has to technically cancel out the -200 attack first. This stuff is really wonky, but Yugioh is a wonky game lol
@olliezoop3 жыл бұрын
The 700 atk loss is lingering, meaning the amount of atk loss via that effect will always attempt to be 700 even if it can't be 700, thus if the monster gains more atk to bring it up above 700 total atk, that atk loss from the dragon will still attempt to be 700
@Goblin_Hands3 жыл бұрын
Very informative as always. Used as material only applies on success and ATK loss is constant, even if it reaches 0. Gale setting ATK is even more interesting if the monster had gained a temporary boost greater than it's ATK, so for example something equipped with Mage Power or United We Stand; if a 1000ATK monster gains 3000ATK/DEF off of Mage Power or a 4000 boost from United We Stand, it will become halve of 4k or 5k even if cards controlled changes or one leaves the field, aka a permanent Boost off of Gale.
