As an artist, the title word "COLOR" caught my eye. I was not disappointed! Since even before the 1400's, color has been officially seen as a conductor/reflector of certain spiritual/emotional stuff, so the topic is really important to a certain group of people. Thank you, Dr. Grande, for both the serious info and the powerful comedy!!!

Elton John's persona is extrovert, but he is in fact an introvert. Like David Bowie and Peter Gabriel, he is so introverted he invented an entirely different persona (with strange and outlandish costumes) to disguise his true self.

I'm an introvert and I love soft pastel colors, my favorite ones being light pink, cream, wisteria, light browns (in combination, not really as a standalone color), periwinkle... I also strongly prefer warm colors to cold ones. I find these colors more soothing and pleasant to look at. Bright neon colors aren't something I particularly like at all... even if it's just a brighter version of a color I do like like pink... I love light pinks and soft muted pinks but I hate hot pinks and magentas.

Dr. Grande can you do a video on projection? I was at a conference and I sat with these 2 women who had very strong opinions on pretty much everything. The way they would criticize people was wild and how it was so obvious that everything they said bad about these people was true about the ladies themselves. It was like I was in the twilight zone, it was insane. I'm curious why do we project? Especially because what they were saying about these people was not true to my knowledge so it made it even crazier. A quick example would be one of the ladies saying "Oh this guy (my colleague) obviously hates women" but like I said above, to my knowledge he's a very nice dude and I'm sure they had their own issues with men.

I've been reading a book called "Innate" by Kevin J Mitchell and according to his studies on monozygotic twins, the environment has barely any effect on a person's personality and that any variance in traits is due to biological development variance during birth. I'm interested to know your opinion on this. Thanks, Dr. Grande!

I would be wary of such a claim. I believe we have solid evidence to show that the environment plays a very important role in the development of a person and their personality. To claim that it has barely no effect seems very dubious to me. I've also found an extensive criticism on Goodreads from an user named Nathan that might be worth checking out.

Well, usually I chuckle at your outlandish examples, Dr. G, but this one hit a little close to home.... I spent high school driving my inherited red LTD convertible among play rehearsal, volleyball practice, youth group, parties (a non-drinking social butterfly), and my job at the beer warehouse (no joke). Traded the latter for working with trauma survivors later on, and eventually became an adoptive mom. At 50 I am wearing bright-patterned leggings, harem pants, skirts with bright t-shirts! 😁 I get teased by fellow "Bones" fans about (the FBI psychologist) Sweets' assertion to (lab researcher) Daisy that her favorite color being red -- mine also -- indicates psychopathy.... On informal questionnaires, I always was off the charts for extraversion (though often had mysteriously countervailing results at the other extreme, as well) -- years before "OCEAN"! However, I wonder what you'd think of my accompanying "late onset introversion/sensory processing disorder" (self-described 😏). A lifelong headache tendency became acute > severe > disabling after a closed head injury + chemical exposure. Now I drive a white pickup truck with a camper (to avoid unpredictable hotel toxicity when traveling -- no flying), live in the woods, and carefully manage my schedule and limit my exposures to many sensory stimuli in order to stay on my feet. Balancing what my temperament/personality desires and what my nervous system (especially now) tolerates is a bit of a trick! I wonder what others' personal or professional experiences of this kind of dichotomy may have been...? Thanks for hitting on fascinating topics -- as always!

This is a girl's topic, thank you for covering it. How relaxing...🙂 I have to admit, that since the doc has introduced me to the Mandolarian , I love green very much, especially a green skin tone, totally obsessed by it...🤭 Could you do a video on how to raise a Baby Yoda properly, Dr. Grande? I would like to adopt one. I love browny, earthy and spicy colors quite a lot, but my best friend told me, these weren't "my" colors. I'm still mad at her for spoiling me these tones - I took it personally. However I finally complied partly to what she said, and reluctantly reduced the fraction of browny clothes in my closet. I also love sea colors such as turquoise, teal, oceanblue etc. Doctor, I personally think you look best in blue and, I've seen an older video of yours, in which you actually wear a shirt in delicate pink- you look fantastic in it, quite masculine in this so called "feminine" color. 💗 Have a colorful day. 🌈

Watched it 3x :-D. The shirt colour can't mess up our sympathy for you - and aside from that, it really doesn't matter if we like the colour. We girls just talk as girls do 😊. I surely like any shirt colour on you because it is you inside. Very interesting study. As a child I used to be very introvert, then in the teenage years I opened up a little and now I sometimes make it even shortly to the extrovert side without having a submania. Yes, I am very sensitive especially to noise and also a bit to bright light but on holidays I seem to have a higher tolerance. Usually I am wearing blue and really like dark green. I don't feel comfortable in yellow, orange and brown. I would say that the colour of the lipstick and the intensity of the makeup in general tells a lot about a woman. From my experience I discovered that men interestingly react only on red (I am wearing scarfs in a lot of different colors always with the same jacket) not on pink or any other color. Red is an extrovert color in my opinion, so do men maybe subconsciously get the signal of extroversion being a good thing regarding woman selection?

Comment 178: I love these videos, as I love ...the categories... The areas dealt with were . Social Contacts at age 7, speech ability at age 11, frequency of parties at 16, sports participation, 16, optimism at 33, and occupational level at 42. The one chosen as the predictor most likely was frequency at parties at year 16. Cortical arrousal, loud colors and loud noises I’d say is what attracts extroverts. Arousal is important in regulating consciousness, attention, alertness, and information processing. It is crucial for motivating certain behaviours, such as mobility, the pursuit of nutrition, the fight-or-flight response and sexual activity (the arousal phase of Masters and Johnson's human sexual response cycle). It is also important in emotion and has been included in theories such as the James-Lange theory of emotion. According to Hans Eysenck, differences in baseline arousal level lead people to be extraverts or introverts. The Yerkes-Dodson law states that an optimal level of arousal for performance exists, and too little or too much arousal can adversely affect task performance. One interpretation of the Yerkes-Dodson Law is the Easterbrook cue-utilisation hypothesis. Easterbrook states that an increase of arousal decreases the number of cues that can be used. Arousal is mediated by several different neural systems. Wakefulness is regulated by the ARAS, which is composed of projections from five major neurotransmitter systems that originate in the brainstem and form connections extending throughout the cortex; activity within the ARAS is regulated by neurons that release the neurotransmitters acetylcholine, norepinephrine, dopamine, histamine, and serotonin. Activation of these neurons produces an increase in cortical activity and subsequently alertness. *cortical* *cortcal* is what I judge. Wakefulness is regulated by the ascending reticular activating system, which is composed of five major neurotransmitter systems - the acetylcholine, norepinephrine, dopamine, histamine, and serotonin systems - that originate in the brainstem and form connections which extend throughout the cerebral cortex.[1][2][3] When stimulated, these systems produce cortical activity and alertness.[1][2]

I am definitely an introvert but oftentimes people think I am extroverted because I sing and play bass in a band. I feel it is a spectrum and while I enjoy socializing and can "act" outgoing, it drains me. As I get older I am even more averse to loud places and while I love to dance can't take the crowds or noise for long anymore. (I was better shutting it out when was younger) I feel it is more an inherited characteristic than environmental. My daughter is the same. My son is more extroverted and has his father's personality. Still, red is my favorite color and yellow is close so that doesn't fit. I think that people who tend to be more empathic - comsidered empaths - also avoid loud places and too many people. The brown shirt is just fine BTW.

:-D Dr. Grande before finishing to the end of the above video I must admit to already being biased about color may predict extraversion and how being an extravert is an advantage for survival or in some of your other videos how according to you extraverts cheat at a higher rate on their partners. Most of us females learn to prefer colors that when worn flatter our skin color and eyes which over time does change and so you can never judge a book by it's cover. Classical principles of beauty include radiance, wholesomeness and harmony. Both music and the visual arts rest on those 3 within the range our sense organs can percieve without discomfort which does vary among people with no disability of the senses very little. And so you cannot tell by what color a person is wearing if they are an extravert or if there is a greater chance later they are going to cheat on their partner. Cheating on a marriage partner is more a case of who is going to be a forever teenager who likes to have the center stage seat higher than all the rest there all of the time which is not the exclusive territory of only extraverts.

As an art therapist, I find it is not the intensity of the color, but the extreme opposition of color choice that makes a difference. For example, red is an intense color, bright, etc. Black is intense but not bright. What markers get used up the fastest in my line of work? Red and black. Yellow and brown are the colors of urine and feces...interesting findings... I think it is extremely important to recognize that the use of colors and lack there of may have nothing to do with what’s visible but what lies within. It is never the color itself, but it’s relationship w other colors.

I don't know about extraversion but I once took a detailed colour test to determine personality and, though I think I can hide my true personality very well, this test was so accurate in exposing it that it scared me. It came up as showing a strong predilection or preoccupation with things to do with ethics, spirituality etc. Not surprising, as, I knew that whenever I wore that particular colour, I felt as if nothing in the world could bother me any more. I could simply forget it and leave it all behind. I also noticed how it attracted like minded people who felt as I did. And when I asked their favourite colour, they all named this same colour, even the men, though I always thought of it as female colour. Then men wanted a shirt that colour as gifts or girlfriends and wives, daughters, mother's etc wearing clothes that colour. They claimed it made them feel at peace.

So will ambiversion be mix in preferences? Or people preffering hues in between bright and dark? If one love purple, mix of red and blue, does it let to think, age 50 they will be ambiverts? 🤔 Ps. Thank You for making me understand, why my long passed brother was such a MAYDAY(techno parties with heavily blinking white lights) lover... He was HYPERextravert. ... Or maybe white as color to be split on rainbow colors is color of ambiverts? 🤔

This is a GREAT term -- did you coin it? (See my other comment about being naturally extraverted, but an "introvert convert" by reason of brain injury....) Definitely going to use this to clear up confusion.... Thanks! P.S. A "MAYDAY" party sounds aptly named -- migraine room from hell! 😬🤕😵

@@tuck-brainwks-eutent-hidva1098 Yuuup - as for migrain. And he was, like me, epileptic... But he was uncurable cause, always at parties or in 10 places at once. 🤔 Ps. Ambiversion is sadly not my finding, it is existing term for people having both intro- and extra- version behaviours. ☺️

What if you're extroverted when your feeling confident but introverted otherwise?

lol that was a funny ending. i hate the color orange yellow is ok but it has to be of a more paleness to wear. those colors are ok for flowers and nature, but very vibrante colors are too much when it comes to wearing them. or looking at orange painted walls like at the bank, blah that one gives me a headache. i am an introvert as well

I have heard that the colors people like tend to be the ones that look good on them. So, if a study found that people like blue and dislike yellow and orange, were they careful to survey people with a variety of skin tones? Many white people of northern European ancestry look best in blues and greens because their skin tends to have blue undertones, but many non-white people such as Asians or Native Americans often look better in yellows and oranges because their skin tends to have yellow or olive undertones. (Undertones are what they pay attention to when you "get your colors done" or when you are shopping for make up.)

I painted my room black. What does that mean. 🤔

What is the definition of happiness in these studies, Is it measured only by external behavior? Can introverts be considered happy according to this definition? Is it possible that the state of well-being for introverts is less measurable for behavioral psychology because introverts gather joy from diferent sircumstances than extroverts, and do not externalize it like extroverts?

My son was an introvert. I knew it and he knew it. He was well liked growing up. Around 22 he said he didn't want to be an introvert and really tried to be an extrovert by being assertive in social settings, seeking to be the center of attention and leader. At that time I feared he would have emotions problems in trying to change his natural demeanor. I wonder if this kind of effort can hurt us, mix us up?

What about people with color-deficient vision? I don't like the term "color blind," many people think it means you see only black and white. Of course I see different colors but I tend not to pay attention to them. When I was a kid, art classes at school frequently had me doing drawings all in the same color without noticing it until someone pointed it out. Generally it's subtle variances in shades that I confuse, or frequently two items look identical to me but others insist they are different. I despise color-coding! I suspect the those with normal color vision see colors as more vibrant. Oh, and I am very introverted
