Great video! I completely agree. Small changes add up over time. Getting 1% better every day is much more sustainable than trying to make a complete paradigm shift overnight.

Exactly! Plus when you focus on that, the (lack of) reward becomes not as important!

I like the idea of being a clean slate and being ready to be productive. At the same time, I think it's more practical to replace habits than to remove them In my experience, I start scrolling social media only when I'm lacking stimulation from something more real, like a conversation with a friend or wacking some golf balls, speaking to a girl etc. I can't realistically consider being productive until that need is met. Self distraction beats self-destruction

Yeah 100% man, it's like when people wanna become a new person at the start of the year, but fail pretty quickly. I think just setting small goals every day and over time making changes is a lot more realistic! So you're saying that you need to do something "mindless" before engaging in productivity? That's interesting man, I personally feel like whenever I do those things I no longer have any desire to be productive

@@JoshTaftYT @JoshTaftYT I'm speaking from a different perspective. There have been times when I've been in a productive mode where it's harder to distract myself than it is to work- I just get on with whatever I need to everyday. Then there are times, like the last couple weeks, month? where it doesn't matter if I do anything or not. I can't hit the same intensity in the gym. Have no desire to watch youtube videos/ listen to audiobooks to learn and apply new information. Feel a general lethargy broken by short spells of work and meeting people

Ahh that's tough man, we all go through it I guess. I think it genuinely does come with time but maybe think about whether what you're doing is actually what you want to be spending your time on? Like do you genuinely want the gym to be your priority or does it feel like it should be? I have had the most difficulty with the gym when I didn't actually WANT to be going, instead I just felt like I should yanno? Or maybe it's something else that's draining all your motivation. Idk that's just been my experience

Question: Have you ever even tried a dopamine detox? You gave the answer that the people want to hear. Dopamine detox is not easy but it's insanely powerful. It made me happier and I started laughing at everything that I normally wouldn't because my brain didn't find things funny since it's dopamine threshold was so high from overly stimulating things.

I gave the answer I believe to be true. I haven’t tried it but I have been able to make a significant change in my habits. I never claimed it didn’t work, I just said it’s unclear on the science
