Coperni is the gimmicky, less talented version of Jack and Laz at Proenza Schouler. To state the obvious, the way these two look probably had a lot to do with their early editorial coverage and hype by the fashion press... Fashion is filled with people who LOVE "cute" white gay boys even if their talent and taste level is iffy.....

10:37 Great video, but I gotta point out, Copernicus had nothing to do with proving the Earth is round. That idea had been well established and accepted since the Ancient Greeks. Copernicus invented the model of heliocentrism, that the Sun, not the Earth, is at the center of the solar system

We did a vote for the name of the video here and on Insta, the second voted was ‘fall and rise’ I wonder if it wouldve done better
@mrggy3 ай бұрын
@@understitchYT I voted for “Why Fashion Needs Coperni” because I thought it was the most interesting and engaging title. I do stand by that, but I agree that I don’t think the video necessarily supports that thesis. I think it would have just required a bit at the end about what Coperni means for the larger fashion industry and why Coperni is true game changer. My takeaway from the video as is was that Coperni is an up and coming brand doing some cool stuff, but not that’s it’s necessarily revolutionary. So I think this issue isn’t so much with the title, but how the video structures an argument to support the claim made in the title. I feel the same way about this new title, “Does Fashion Need Coperni?” I’m confused by it. The title seems to suggest that Coperni is possibly unnecessary or irrelevant, which I also don’t think the video supports. Overall, I think it’s a strong video, but if you have a title that makes a claim, then the narrative of your video should support that claim. Generally your videos tend to be more descriptive (and I’m not saying that’s a bad thing) with descriptive titles to match (ie The Rise and Fall of X). If you want to move towards titles that pose questions or make claims, then I think you have to build more of an argument (in the academic sense of the term) into the video. Overall, I really enjoy your videos and this isn’t a critique of them. Just my thoughts on the title and why you’re maybe getting different responses to it than expected

"Hadid moment" reminded me about McQueen' paint sprayed dress visually in a good way, but sadly it is also seems to be just a conceptual moment for the show, and not a technology of the near future that can make any difference in global production.

@understitchYT3 ай бұрын
I don’t really think we have supermodels now, because all of our supermodels are celebrities first and models second. Unfortunately, celebrities are where the views are, how many more posts have you seen about Kylie Jenner being at the Coperni show versus how many posts about it being at Disneyland? Its just what customers want to see in the end and you can either fight it or accept it 🤷

swear I heard a click go off in my head at 6:56 because prior to clicking into this video, I'd always mixed up Coperni and Courreges from what little I've gleaned from their websites. Doesn't help their logos, bag silhouettes look interchangeable (to me) either
@understitchYT3 ай бұрын
The boys used a serious amount of their house codes in their Courreges clothes, it made for uncomfortably blurred lines between the two, but because they closed the namesake for it it made sense. Its just when they returned they had to make new ones which is how we ended up with gimmicks as big as they are now. I low key wish I had said that explicitly in the video

I wouldn't want that pressure and possibly doing it quietly like after hadid spray dresss moment would make sense again. Missed opportunity for few menswear looks but got my attention more so than sprayed dress. Marketing, money, and knowing the right people can definitely make or break brands. money definitely talks. Good detailed video ❤ XOX

Genuinely I think the only thing they can possibly do is strip it back entirely and focus really heavily on the design. Thats been the biggest critique of the show (unfair imo because thats not what they were known for nor trying to convince people of), so I think proving people wrong with an exceptionally well designed collection will be monumental and would break the criticism of constant gimmicks

Most of their collections were in my view close to perfection but the Disneyland one was the tackiest and ugliest thing ever. I don’t get it. U make a name for yourself and after that u can just stop taking your art seriously? Not everything can be equally lauded. That includes that hideous CD player bag. Again, most pieces are 10 out of 10 but going from the spray on dress to Disney princess dresses, I mean come on!!! I’m telling u, the tackiest thing E-VER!! As a French person, I can’t c how this collection can become successful. But this video like all your videos is so pleasant to watch. My opinion of the designers do not reflect in any way the very high opinion I have of you and of your work. Thanks for another great watch.
@understitchYT6 күн бұрын
Its tricky because to understand their motivations you almost have to separate what is and isnt good taste. A bit like when Jeremy Scott was new. Their designs arent always the chicest thing, but thats not what theyre going for, so judging them based on perimeters that they arent aiming for is unfair. Esp when what they are aiming for (a buzzy brand that is aiming for a buy out down the line) is hitting its targets. Its fascinating really and one of very few brands doing it. Would I buy the clothes? Probably not. But theyre not *really* trying to sell the clothes so much as trying to sell themselves; if that makes sense?
@cloyboy24934 ай бұрын
Sorry but no, Coperni is a lowbrow brand created by marketing people, no one talented at fashion design resides there. That’s the trouble, you get invited by them so then we now have this false piece of media, you partake in the fruit and taint your own brand’s sincerity by promoting one like them.
@AndrewParkHwan4 ай бұрын
yea exactly, I don’t blame her bc you deserve to get your bag, but if you say the wrong things in this video, then you could easily be not invited to the next show. Hence why some of the best critics are often the ones with the least skin in the game.
@understitchYT4 ай бұрын
I see my role as explaining the value of different brands, why their customer would want to return to buy from them, I dont critique individual design closely enough to pick apart if its ‘good’ or ‘bad’ actual design, outside of the scope of their own world; I feel like that would be more subjective where I try to be more objective if that makes sense. Which for Coperni means that because the value of the brand comes from the buzz that comes from the gimmicks, I cant exactly fault them for having a big splashy show and commercial garments, it just wouldnt be fair or true to what the brand is offering. If it was off-brand then it would be a different story
