I prefer to hang cheap Chinese 20 watt full spectrum LED bars in the corners of my 3x3 tent as supplemental lighting to improve light penetration and yields on the lower buds by eliminating the low PPFD spots in the corners which most lights in tent setups have. Just gotta remember that those additional lights also produce quite a bit of additional waste heat and you still gotta retain some distance from your plants to prevent light burn.
@superkoopatrooper48793 ай бұрын
As long as theyre designed for high humidity it should be fine. Otherwise, the water that sometimes accumulates on leaves can short it out and get dangerous. And a humidifier would also be a nono. I personally use the ion bar lights from acinfinity. I do not recommend them. All 4 bars together at max brightness is about 300 par 6inches away. I have the larger more expensive version too and this is the performance. So I use it as a clone and seedling light.

Most people are personal growers. Focus on your canopy and maximizing what’s up there. How much weed do you really need? Under lighting is a waste of time vs. return. When you’ve grown for a long time, countless cycles, you very quickly move to a position of simplicity and lose all of the extra tasks and BS that eat up your time. In the beginning it’s fun because you’re so into growing, and that’s fine, but eventually the novelty of trying to do every little things wears off.
@hokie00724 ай бұрын
Sage advice. I completely concur. It is very easy to be enticed by the rando Internet grower claims and flashy product marketing. You can spend gobs of money chasing the latest and greatest devices. You can provide your plants every booster supplement that you can ultimately afford (and they can tolerate). You can employ arcane and time consuming grower practices. Yet in the end, what will you have to show for it? Just some small percentage points in quality/yield over a basic legitimate spec setup. I also agree, that with the assertion of "how much weed do you really need?". Don't overscale yourself. No way a individual (personal) grower needs a 10x10 tent. Also remember that there is a ton of work to growing (well at least not a trivial amount depending on level of automation), the more you size up; the more work you are creating for yourself- don't even get me started on harvesting/trimming. Perhaps this effort/expense is worth it for corporate/industrial growers, but I doubt it, as they would seek efficiency. The cost to benefit analysis of exceeding the basics is simply not there.

@@SeaOrcRonnie Thanks bud. Absolutely agreed, evaluate your needs and then decide your grow footprint. I started in a 2x4 and moved up to a 4x4 when I was bitten by the "newness frenzy bug" and at one point was considering moving to a 5x5, perpetual grows, etc. but then one day I realized I was producing FAR more than I could reasonably consume (and mind you, I consume - all day every day). Once you have curing and storage down, you can really start to produce/accumulate a LOT of weed. I now only grow 2 (10-16 week veg - each one is essentially 2x4 at flip) plants in a single calendar year (DWC SCROG) and that harvest is WELL over what myself and my wife can consume. In the end, I probably should have just stuck with the 2x4...lmao! But that's why your post spoke to me. I've been growing 13+ years now and wasted a non-insignificant amount of money (especially during the initial years) chasing the latest/greatest/biggest. Completely unnecessary and totally a novelty. The actual growing experience is what matters in the end - and the only way to really get that is to grow. Perhaps our sliver of of shared experience can assist novices.

@@hokie0072 It's nuts, we've been at it almost exactly the same length of time, it's hilarious how much our experiences have mirrored each other, especially the period of time where you are growing all these plants, next thing you know you have jars and jars of flowers, different varieties, basically your own personal dispensary, good problem to have, but I'm not a hash guy, and so then you go man, I'm never going to get through all of this, but I love growing! Yet, I still didn't get a massive difference like you stated. I used the supplemental light bars around the perimeter of my grow tent, not below/underneath the plants. Is the ICL different than supplemental? I also wanted more light because of my current lights dismal coverage of my canopy. My thoughts are lollipop the bottom third, I didn't see worthy increase of yield to sacrifice larger upper buds. Good luck growing.

I like this. This is probably why people see advantages in HID lighting. Right now im trying to breed a hybrid into two autos with a 150 watt nextlight. My space is far too crowded in this situation and i cant get the light into the reversed hybrid. I have some 50 watt amazon flood lights im considering putting in there. A well trained plant maybe this isnt needed. But the plant doesnt grow that way on its own. It isnt supposed to grow that way. Any other situation including my current seems like it would benifit from a non 2 dimentional light source. Even in the world of autoflowers. A lot can be said with the negative effects of aggresive training. I think this is probably an excellent direction to explore. Maybe even more so with the potential of various spectrums influencing this auxilery light source. Have you explored the idea of a far red inter canopy light?

So if i go to say 900ppfd from my overhead, introduce these and run them to 1400-1500 total for the area you are saying i should therotically get 50% increase. 5+ lb in a 4x4 by your math my friend that is 147g per watt something dont add up.
