It's metal, you can touch it and it's part of the electric installation.....yes😊....simples

I would earth it personally when second fixing it , but some people wouldn’t ,how can you touch it it’s above a ceiling tile and out of zones if it’s rcd protected it’s going to comply if a room containing a bath or shower . You should be isolating before removing , is it not just an isolated piece of metal work ?? Curious on people’s thoughts that’s all

@@nathanaddison9778 it contains single insulated conductors so requires earthing . The lighting circuit is in a commercial environment so no requirement for additional protection .

I done my am2 2 years ago. I still earth all my back boxes on a daily basis. But even the instructor said this is not a requirement just good practice so he wouldn't mark me down for not earthing the back boxes. All you keyboard warriors. I know a bathroom is a special zone but surely that there isn't extraneous

Presuming you mean the "back box" or what looks like a metal conduit box without the conduit (earthing it), yes, I believe it does. I think a fly lead to the box would be in order. I would fit one anyway.
@Mainly_ElectricalКүн бұрын
Certainly does Dave .. 100s in this place not earthed

It could also use a trs gland or a cable grip of sorts and a lovely fly lead to the back box

I know it should, we all know it should. Had this on a job the other day, electrical contracts manager didn’t think it needed to be earthed (adaptable box metal with singles at 230V terminations containing + metal tube) IF it was RCD protected? Thoughts? I will look at what the regs say but discussions always fun

Contains basic insulation . Absolutely should be earthed .
@williamlowther7051Күн бұрын
Looks like it was professionally connected but would have just taken the extra minute and earthed it
@jonhunter8737Күн бұрын
Yes, cos these new Klix plates don't have the earth strap from the terminal to the screws like the old ones did. Yes, I am THAT old, that we still call them Gregs!
@liamcurtis6601Күн бұрын
Newer klix do not sit flush on galv boxes. At the right angle terminal screws can be seen.

Yes, but why not use a plastic conduit box, simples
@shaun30-3-mg9zsКүн бұрын
It's the same as a back box on sockets and switches so yes needs an earth connection
@hashtagger8694Күн бұрын
Is it classed as out of reach? Ie 2.5m from the ground
@corneliushealy8006Күн бұрын
Mixed proposition really, if there are other trades who have to access above ceiling grid (which this looks like where this box is situated) is it really out of reach?
@JohnDundee-el2roКүн бұрын
Yes and a gland and a wee earth terminal
@peterigrenyi9176Күн бұрын

Can't work out why they used a metal end box when there is no galv tube. if they had used a PVC one it would have been fine or a PVC plain box or even better a klix 4 way marshalling box - Go all out 😎
