Except Jesus ISN'T the great I AM and that isn't even an accurate rendering of Ex. 3:14, that is the King James rendering and it's wrong! Most modern Bibles use the more correct rendering; (Exodus 3:14) So God said to Moses: “I WILL BECOME WHAT I CHOOSE TO BECOME." Bruh what? It’s not biblical. Luke 1:28 is Mary being greeted by the angel and 1:42 is Elizabeth’s words. Included in the book, sure. I love O Holy Night but you have to sing all the verses. O come O Come Emmanuel also beautiful. And Mary Did You Know always makes me think. The verse in I Heard The Bells on Chrustmas Day -" .. God is not dead nor does He sleep. The wrong shall fail, the right prevail with peace on earth goodwill toward men." Even if I may not feel God or He feels far away I am reminded He is indeed watching and it's under control. What I love most is that there are actually a lot of truly beautiful Christmas carols.

My wife and I went to Liberty University and Mark Lowery, the writer of the song, is a graduate from there. I have sat and talked to him a few times but my wife had his mother , Beverly, as an education professor.. She was a wonderful lady and Mark was a around a lot to visit his mom... I’ve seen people attack it recently from the other side for questioning Mary’s knowledge. “Of course she knew! This song is insulting as it undermines her intelligence and it’s anti-Biblical because it counters Gabriel’s announcement!” Obviously the song is presented rhetorically from an awe-inspired Believer to the woman who bore and raised Him. It’s not questioning her awareness. It’s a poetic expression of “how did you walk through life with this knowledge?” (Sure, she didn’t know explicitly that He would walk on water; and maybe she didn’t fully grasp that the Messiah would be God Himself wrapped in human flesh … but even knowing Her child was the Promised Seed, God-With-Us, would have been overwhelming for any mother to process. And I think that’s what the song is working through.)

God was IN Jesus (John 14:10-11). That would make zero sense if Jesus was God. He isn't. He needed to be a MAN to be the "second Adam" (Romans 5, 1 Corinthians 5 etc). Except that God doesn't have a face. Jesus was both God and man, but His face was part of His humanity. So were His birth and His death. His Deity did not have a face, was never born, and never died. Say that the face of Jesus is the face of God is misapplying his divine nature to His human nature. Same goes for calling Mary the "mother of God." God does not have a mother. Mary did not create God; God created Mary. While Mary gave birth to Jesus in His human form, she did not give birth to His Deity. That said, I don't mind the song, except that it's become way overexposed at this time of year, much like Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You."

That's funny, I guaranty there is no way she had any clue what was truly happening. NOBODY did. Not even Satan had a clue, and I can promise he is far shrewder and knows so much more about the spiritual reality and background behind what was going on, than any human at that time. IF he knew, he would have never crucified Christ. So, it's very safe to assume, she had very little idea of what was truly happening, what she was a part of, and what would take place. She obviously knew something incredible was happening, but not the full extent. She is the only one that KNEW she was a virgin. Joseph could trust and believe, but she KNEW! Ironically, the ONLY one mentioned in the Bible that seemed to know what was happening was the thief on the Cross. Even when all His Disciples fled and thought all hope was lost, the guy dying right next to Him, somehow figured out He WAS the Son of God and this death was NOT the end, not defeat, but victory. That just gives me insane chills to think about. Of course, like Jesus said to Peter upon his confession, flesh and blood didn't reveal it to the thief; but for some reason the thief was the only one that could receive and believe what the Holy Spirit told him. He even figured out the key points of the sinner's prayer: acknowledged his sin and was deserving of death, acknowledged Jesus's righteousness and that He WAS Lord, and asked Jesus to save Him(remember me when you come into your kingdom). This to me was one of the greatest miracles!

Actually, in scripture, Jesus calls "God" her Savior before Jesus was born. So, she was already saved and she had to be because there's no way that God would use sinful flesh to create His Son with. She had to be pure before being used to create Jesus and don't forget, 100% of Jesus' flesh comes from only one human being; Mary. And like Jesus said, no bad tree can produce good fruit and as scripture says, Jesus is the fruit of Mary.

There are some elements of truth in what you're saying, but do not forget that the Son existed before he was conceived, that He is God, and the work of His salvation transcends time and space. Mary was absolutely saved only by the work of her Son Jesus Christ who is God. Saying Mary was saved apart from Jesus is heretical at best. Saying she was saved "before" Jesus requires you to confess Arianism, which is heathenry. It's also worth noting that Mary was full of grace, sinless and immaculate, and uniquely suitable vessel for carrying God, but that is not the same as saved. She could have said no and become condemned like Eve. But she in her free will chose not to.

It's how God appeared to Abraham as 3 beings, but only God The Father spoke. Jesus didn't speak and The Holy Spirit didn't speak which is why Abraham referred to those 3 persons as "Lord". Also, your analogy is wrong. Think about it, what was it that saved mankind? It wasn't just Jesus "being" Jesus, right? It was his SACRFICE. No one was saved before He died. So, if Mary wasn't saved that means she was born with original sin which in turn means that Jesus was formed from sinful impure flesh, right? Is this what you believe and did Mary lie when she called God (not Jesus, not The Holy Spirit) her Savior? Because she couldn't have been saved if ONLY Jesus' sacrifice saves, right? And, how could Mary be both full of grace and sinful at the same time (original sin)? That would be impossible since the sacrifice hadn't been made for her yet "if" she wasn't immaculately conceived before Jesus. If you could tell me why God used sinful flesh, then that would mean that Jesus Himself would need a savior because He would be born with original sin. Remember, original sin isn't attached to hour spirits, but to our bodies. I only have on explanation... Jesus said that no good fruit could come out of a bad tree and Jesus, according to scripture, is the "fruit" of Mary, right? So by default, the tree would have to be good, right and she couldn't be good if she was born in sin, correct? One more thing, when Mary said that God was her Savior, she said that He did "great" things in her (plural). What were they? Well, one saving her so she could be pure to be used for the creation of Jesus and two, placing Jesus in her womb. Notice that she said that part in the past tense, not in any future tense.

The song from a Catholic point of view is wrong in the sense that Jesus will not "one day deliver her." She doesn't need that, being sinless due to the retroactive application of grace when she was conceived. She was saved already, recieving the merits of salvation outside of the bounds of time and space. Many lifelong Catholics would even struggle to articulate that teaching about exactly how Mary was concieved sinlessly. Many when polled don't understand that the immaculate conception is referring to Mary's conception not Jesus's and shockingly high numbers when polled do not believe in Christ being present body, blood, soul and divinity in the eucharist. Huge numbers are unsure about basic concepts such as exactly when the Pope speaks infallibly and what they must submit to or are free to disregard. So yes, many Protestants know very little about the Catholic faith but that charge can also be levelled back at Catholics. Whatever you think of me I see you as a brother in Christ, please give the benefit of the doubt to ppl you are conversing online with. Don't throw away your chance to perhaps educate others further and build bridges. I'm really not far from you on many things, you would be surprised at my willingness to listen and engage with Catholicism. Anyway, enjoy the rest of Christmas.

@@viperstriker4728 The ancient Greek, from which the title was originally given, was written in all capital, majuscule letters. Lowercase, miniscule letters only came into being centuries after. So questions about capital letters are more modern issues. Titles are conventionally capitalized in English, especially titles that involve proper nouns. I don’t think capitalization or non-capitalization has any major bearing on due or undue honor for Mary. If Jesus is really God, and Mary is really the mother of Jesus…..

No one should be worshipping her, no. As a Catholic, it’s in our catechism not to 😊. But that song line isn’t scripture. It “proves” nothing theologically. It’s in the Bible that Mary said God is her savior. Yes, what Jesus did saved her. All of salvation history that came to pass saved us all, her included. But for Mary is preserved her from original sin in the first place. And she cooperated with that grace in her “yes” to God’s plan. She can be both sinless and saved by Christ at the same time.

God didn’t choose her, he made her. He made his own Mom. He made the most wonderful, loving, and perfect Mom/woman ever created. He didn’t make a bunch of women and then go back and pick the finest from the litter. He knew exactly what he was doing when he made her. Because God is love he also gave her free will. She could have said no to Angel Gabriel, but even with her own free will she said yes. God made her and he made her perfect. You can be made perfect and still say no to God. Look at Adam and Eve. Our Blessed Mother Mary is the new Eve. She said yes to God. As a Catholic, we do not pray to her or worship her. We love her, honor her, and ask her to pray for us. The Hail Mary prayer quotes the Bible and then ends with us asking for her to pray for us.

To them she is the Theotokos which in their minds and theology, required her to be sinless, herself.
