Great video, Commander Hall; I run 70 guards, and the guys demanding pay have been the worst. I tell them I'll give them two weeks probation to show me what they got and adjust the pay accordingly.

Fuck that bro that shit wont pay bills. Bet you have to work 12 to 14 hour days just to make something. Your company needs to get higher paying contracts. Love for your profession doesn't pay the bills. If you are armed, you should take no less than $20-$25/hr

No amount of pay can guarantee a quality employee. What offering higher pay does is give you more justification to demand greater skills, knowledge and experience from position candidates. It also means you can be quicker with the axe; if they're not performing, they're removed immediately and with good reason. All that said, keeping rates low, has a very high correlation (I know it's not causation) with poor employees, as im sure you're well aware.

I think you hit the nail right on the head with this one. Like you said, entry level staff sometimes come in and blow away the vets, for less pay. It’s so hit or miss. Keep the bangers coming! 💯💯

All day long Commander Hall, you are absolutely correct. I’ve hired individuals that have ABC DEFG licenses custom 2-3 grand to keep up their licenses. Sam will even come to you and say well. I carry a gun I should get paid 25 $30 an hour. Are you thinking you got a rockstar? But when the time comes situations occur they know absolutely nothing. It’s a toss of the coin makes our jobs as owners very difficult. Don’t get me wrong. I believe firmly that if you have the experience you should get paid for what you know. But my message reverse specs to Commander hall. If you’re gonna talk to talk, walk to walk, don’t apply for a job don’t get all kinds of crazy licenses if you can’t do the job.

I think it helps attract more senior officers. I agree, you can find a good Officer at entry level pay. That being said if you find a good Officer, you need to make steps to ensure they stay with you. Promotions, increased responsibilities, training, pay and opportunities are just some ways. Communication and recognition are also important.

Higher pay will buy you a more experienced officer, but that in and of itself is not a guarantee that they will work any better. We have former law enforcement officers who make 45 an hour, and they call off, don’t show up, refuse to follow post orders etc. people who can’t work hard for minimum wage, won’t work hard for top tier wage.

A lot of people want good money and want to do minimal work. One way is to weed out the lazy workers is offer a starting wage than increase the pay based on merit. If the person does the job with a professional mind set increase their pay after a 30/60/90 day time frame after proving what they bring to the table Can I get a job, Commander Hall? I want $25 an hour and will bring my on Play Station

You get paid for what the job is worth, and if you do your best and do your job, you can get paid better if you prove yourself , armed or unarmed doesn't matter if you are a good security professional you should be able to make better paid in the long run, having experience is great but proving your self means more..

better pay doesn't mean better guards, but better guards ought to get better pay. At the company I work for everyone gets paid almost the same, armed, unarmed, even the supervisors, company police and dispatchers. Raises are not guaranteed for moving up or for experience and the rare raises that do happen are small. I'm looking towards eventually trying for my local Police department when I'm in a position where that's possible. I'm not really looking hard towards other companies; often companies that advertise high pay are basically lying by posting the absolute most that they're guards are making in those positions rather than what most guards actually make (Allied). it's just not worth the headache of switching companies when the companies around here don't seem much better.

you gotta think getting your guard card is easier than getting a costco card and getting a job as a security guard is just as easy. You can make $20 abd hour at Mcdonalds and even more at in n out here in Cali so you really can't expect much out of any gaurd.

I tried to employ a guard for a shift that would have paid $50 an hour. This guard said "oh I don't get out of bed for less that $70 per hour". Now I've seen this guard in action based on what I've seen, no way is he worth $70 an hour.

Do you think that when looking to fill a position and not finding the right person, desperation kicks in, which leads you to pick someone you "hope" works out but most often doesn't? I feel like you might be hiring "warm bodies" to lessen the amount of shifts you have to cover but end up covering them anyway when the new hires don't work out. I might be way off. Lemme know.

@commanderhall848 Might be time to find a recruiter to take over the hiring process. I'm sure there's a cost to consider in that decision, but outsourcing that task might be a better option.

Well, this is like four months late. I do armed security. I don't know what your market is like, but I definitely expect more with higher pay. Pre covid, average pay for armed was $12hr. We would pay them $15hr. After covid the average pay is $19-$20. I pay $23. But you are right, we use resumes, experience, and other stuff to try and weed out people, but you really don't know until you work them or put them to the test, Maybe you could touch on this, why is it the worst guys always try to brag they are the best employees.

I don't think it does. I work Federal Corrections. At my location, we just got a 25% retention bonus and 5% added to our salary. All it does is keep staff, it doesn't make them better. I do believe one should be paid more for their experience, but you should put them on a probation for about 90 days and test them out before giving it to them.
@commanderhall848

I love this original content! Hey, I’m very interested in your answer. Something that I want to point out is that maybe if you hire someone who has a solid 2-3 years with ONE company, maybe that will be your solid employee? Think about this… if they were mediocre with that one employer, if the employer instill discipline properly, they would not be working in there for 2 to 3 years. I am guessing and please correct me if I’m wrong, maybe the employees that you’ve been hiring that are mediocre, maybe they have security employment for one to two months here and there or maybe nine months here and there. I don’t know. What are your thoughts?

@@commanderhall848 how do you schedule your Officers? I’ve learned that steady consistent schedule can always play a big role for most guards but there are some that want to bounce around for training and experience purposes in my experience. I want to give them that opportunity if possible a little at time.
@Fon11

Hell no, more pay don't mean good guards. If you have time in the industry and have certs/training to back it up then sure getting a little bit more would be good, should definitely help with advancements with the company but if you don't show your worth we're not going to pay you more. Bonuses help motivate individuals I feel or other forms of recognition might motivate them but just coming in out the blue, no. But then we also have to remember our industry, YES there's money to be made, but clients or potential clients don't want to pay for quality they just want to pay for bodies.
