Highlighting the challenges of undiagnosed Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
I share experiences where my son’s abilities were doubted and are categorised as something other than an understanding of how he functions.
This video highlights how focusing on the child's individual abilities helps to engage them to learn. Advocating for our children who are living with neurodiverse conditions such as ADHD, Autism (ASD), ODD, PDA, Dyslexia and other individual needs that may fall into the category of learning disabilities, moving through setbacks when support is limited, inconsistent or not available, can be a challenge. I was diagnosed as ADHD and ODD as a kid as well as given a diagnosis of anxiety and “OCD like tendencies”. As a 35 year old I was diagnosed with Autism and kept the ADHD diagnosis. I suspect it was never ODD and was always PDA but we don’t recognize PDA in the US… 🙄

I'm almost certain my son has PDA. School aren't interested in listening to me. I worked in sen for 10 years so i have more knowledge than them as mainstream teachers. So frustrating!!

Hang in there. My daughter has a PDA child and hasn’t gotten a lot of help from professionals. However Casey Ehrlich at @peaceparents had helped tremendously with her insight and experience with a PDA child of her own. She’s done wonderful research and has developed education and training that we are benefitting greatly from.

It seems that as a child I had undiagnosed pda . I have been diagnosed with Autism as an adult at the age of 29.I used to be called drama queen and a diva when I was a little girl ( I guess being female played a part to remaine undiagnosed 🤨)

I’m in the US and my daughter has Autism and ADHD and I’ve been reading about PDA and it describes her exactly. Who would I go to in order to get her evaluated for PDA?

I didn’t think PDA was a thing here in the US? I’ve heard they can have something with PDA but it’s not recognized as a diagnosis?

Thank you for sharing your experience. This was my challenge several years ago, before PDA was recognised. I am unfamiliar with the diagnosis process in the US, however, keep continuing to highlight your child’s abilities and challenges. The PDA Society’s website may be a helpful resource to support you. All the best and stay empowered.
