Thanks so much to everyone who’s left a comment on this video. It’s been quite overwhelming to get so much feedback indicating that I might not actually be shite at this presentery stuff. (Although I’ve a feeling just seeing somebody new doing it might be tricking people into thinking they don’t hate me. Similar to a new manager bounce for football teams, before the new manager gets sacked after a few months anyway) But nevertheless, I’m so glad a lot of you enjoyed the video. Maybe it won’t be the last time they let me out of the nerd basement. I’m just about to get on the bike in the attic again now. So I might see you on Zwift if anyone is doing the same this evening! Thanks everyone. Cillian

On Saturday I will do the same thing on my Surly Pugsly fat tire bike, then post to the GCN app with the results. My hypothesis is that my average comfortable speed on the rocky canal trail will be half of my average comfortable speed on the road for the gravel bike and fat tire bike. My other hypothesis is the gravel bike will be 20% faster on the road then the fat tire bike, but the same on the rocky canal trail.

I'm a huge fan of all the vids Cillian has done (inspired an overweight 50 year old with a metal back to enter the Etape) but this one left me with more questions than answers. The leap in performance in such a short period of time is all attributed to 8 structured training workouts on zwift. No mention of nutrition or recovery or any other riding - just the magic of 8 zwift rides. In the same week we have the vid from ollie (great vid) detailing all the long term changes he made & used zwift for structured training over a long period of time. Seeing Cillian achieve the KOM & PR's was fantastic & watching him is infectious- but the vid just felt like a zwift advert
@cilliankelly12 жыл бұрын
Hi Noel, thanks for the message and thanks for watching Zero to Hero. Fantastic that you've signed up for the Etape next year. Best of luck with it. It was pretty much the only riding I did during that month was the 8 Zwift Academy sessions. I've just checked there and I did three Zwift races during that time as well as one short recce ride outside where I did that Cobh Harbour Hairpins climb (when I still thought I was going to be in the national hill climb championships). I didn't change anything with my nutrition - if anything it was worse during the month because it was my birthday and Halloween which meant sweets in the house and a couple of indulgent dinners out. I think the big gains can be attributed to a couple of other things rather than 'just' the 8 training sessions. Knowing the climbs better and knowing where and when to change gear to maintain a high power output was something I was aware of this time, which I was certainly not aware of 10 years ago. For instance, I had a power meter on my bike this time. I didn't 10 years ago. But I also think what Zwift in general has taught me over the past couple of months is that when I think I've emptied the tank and I can't keep going ... I actually can. So perhaps it's not *only* a gain in fitness, but an increased understanding of how hard I can actually push myself with the fitness that I've already got.
@nobbycycles2 жыл бұрын
@@cilliankelly1 that's a brilliant response - you are bang on about power meters - that knowledge of what you can do when your legs are trying to convince you that you can't is really valuable at that moment that the vomit is just starting to rise. I think I should have indulged in some more Halloween sweets by the sound of it 🤣🤣 Looking forward to the Etape now the route is out - though the Col de Joux Plane as the finale is going to be a proper test on the day Look forward to whatever daft thing they get you to do next - you are turning into Hank 2.0 🤣🤣🤣🤣 They obviously figured out they couldn't kill Hank whatever they tried and came up with a new plan 😉

So awesome! Listening with my wife beside me. I tink she tuned in about a turd of the way true. "What are you actually watching?" Chuckled that you "finished" so much quicker than before. Good thing you went hard sooner. - I mean, really, re-listening from there-on is such a treat! It just goes on and on :) Even gave us information of seminal value. 🤣🤣🤣

Cillian, you've come so far, I'm so proud of you! I would have been satisfied with the 1:25 and left it at that, chapeau.

I did the 7-week zero to hero program last spring, and it actually blew me away how much I improved. That was wild. Thanks for the inspiration, Mr. Dunne.
