This passage has really been speaking to me. This is the second time I have listened to you regarding Shema. I’m praying it each morning and I want it to sink down into my whole being. Thank you for this beautiful, important teaching.

Beautiful. I particularly loved, "That single-minded whole hearted devotion to God, God's word, God's ways, God's laws. Not as an external thing, but as something that goes down and transforms you from deep inside." In our world it is easy to see the word of God as an object that we analyze or criticize, rather than as something we take into our hearts that nourishes, permeates, and transforms. Thank you so much for these. I love them. They are beautiful and powerful weekly devotions. Please keep going.

Polycarp also had a single minded whole hearted devotion to God that went deep into his soul, and didn’t cause him to waver or doubt that God was allowing his impending death to cause him harm. How I pray for this kind of devotion in my own life. Thank you for encouraging us as believers to be obedient to the word, and to have a good deep into our souls.

OH MY GOSH!!! Yesterday I went with my son to his church. The man was talking about praying leads to obedience. But actually I told my son I felt like he was promoting Global missionary for people to become missionaries or to donate. Something didn't sit quite right in my spirit because I felt like it was the truth of Jesus mixed with the law. So imagine my surprise at the title of this Monday reading. And you explained exactly what was wrong in your explanation and encouragement by translating what the Hebrew word really means! I have always studied with the exhaustive Strong's Concordance looking up words in the Wyclef biblical encyclopedia to know how he lived and understand what it really meant what they wrote in Jesus's time. Thank you so much for these Monday readings I look forward to them every week! May God bless you with good health and understanding and knowledge in him to help us in the world get closer to our Lord and savior and God! Amen

I understand “obedience from the heart” as complete freedom. As we are formed to better reflect God’s image to the world, we can more and more often do whatever we want, because we only want what is good and right.

in fact the word ἐξομολογέω (praise, confess, admit, acknowledge) is a literal combination of Koine Greek parts that translate out of one word... so apropos! To "praise, confess, admit, acknowledge" is a compound word from being "out of one word"...

Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. Daniel 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. 1 Corinthians Chapter 15 1Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

So does Shem (Name) mean: ome who hears (shema)? And this: He Shall Be our God, He Shall Be One (Echadh)? Is He not the One who will extend his life and impart his greatness upon those who care and value and love all who are to become one with Him, too, and with the One whom He has sent and given that we may become one with Him as He is with his God and Father that we may all become one?

I have always been an atheist. I have been looking at our society as it is now and have come to the conclusion that the loss of faith generally has been a big part in the loss of cohesion and decency in our society. I have started to study the bible and feel the beginnings of a faith. I do not know enough yet to call myself a Christian. I don’t think faith is something you can just decide to have. One stumbling block I have is the treatment of homosexuals in the bible. Death. This is obviously not acceptable. I am looking to try to find some text which abrogates this, maybe later in the New Testament. Can anyone help me and point out some text with which I can defuse this problematic law. Thanks to all.
@Jill-jb1jg2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. This was also a stumbling block to me as a seeker. There are three types of law in the Old Testament - the moral law (such as the Ten Commandments), the ceremonial law (about temple worship, food laws, etc) and the civil law (such as punishment for crimes. E g stoning). The moral law is almost all repeated in the New Testament . This includes the prohibition of gay sex. The ceremonial and civil laws were only for Israel. Therefore the execution of people who have gay sex is not an obligation for Christians. (It was people who had gay sex who were punished, BTW, whatever their sexual orientation. There was no punishment just for having same-sex attraction.) There’s an article called ‘What is the difference between the ceremonial law, the moral law, and the judicial law in the Old Testament?’ at got questions .org.

Genesis 9:6 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. Ezekiel 18:21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. Joel 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: Acts 19:20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed. Ephesians 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Acts 11:18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life. Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 1 Peter 5:12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand. Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
