Does Resident Evil need ANOTHER Remake?

In this video Tin gives his thoughts about the potential second remake of the classic Resident Evil. Well definitely not necessary at all another Resident Evil 1 Remake could have a lot to offer fans if handled correctly. I honestly hope Capcom leaves the RE1 Remake/Zero alone, to at least keep a handful of tank control RE games in the public consciousness, rather than having the 3rd person remakes all but replace them. Instead I hope they remake Code Veronica before the inevitable remake of 5.

It actually needs a remake, lorewise , they don't acknowledge Rebecca chambers being experienced with bows,if you knew about the series you'll know that it needs it. A lot of things don't add up. So keep playing game pass games and leave the RE opinions to people that actually know about it.

Great video with well articulated points, but personally I have 0 interest in seeing time and resources put into another RE1 remake (or a remake in general right now). I'm not a huge fan of the 3rd Person OTS style for survival horror like in 2. I do think that style works better for the more action-oriented titles like 3 or 4 and I think fixed camera or 1st person works far better for the survival horror genre (that's not to say I think 2 remake is bad - it's still an excellent game). RE1 remake though is the perfect example of what a remake should be. Didn't really change the core gameplay experience or story, only improved and added. The only things I really see it improving on if they did another remake is the story and voice acting. Perhaps as well making a cohesive story that ties both the Chris and Jill scenarios into each other so we can actually have both Barry and Rebecca getting saved. But even then they should just focus on creating actual brand new RE experiences (RE9, 10, and so on) with everything they did in RE2 remake in mind. Even with my aforementioned comments of the 3rd person OTS system for survival horror, the majority of people loved it and I'd much rather they try creating a brand new game with all of the same concepts from that (obviously with different story, characters, gameplay). You do bring up a really good point in favor of RE1 being remade again to tie the story into the eventual RE CVX and RE5 Remakes for the modern audiences. Those are two games that I definitely think could useremakes (for very different reasons from eachother) and it would be a bit odd to throw those out there and not remake the original as well. My counter point, which is more just an idea, is that I think rather than doing a full remake of 1 they can instead incorporate the story into a Code Veronica remake if they go that route. This way they bring only the elements of the story they need to into Code Veronica, don't run the risk of creating a remake that doesn't surpass the first remake they did of the game, and maybe even give people incentive to buy and play that first remake that haven't already. Although yes, it would be a bit jarring for some to go from Code Veronica remake in the modern style into RE1 Remake as you point out, but that's just more of an option to see the rest of the story from that game that doesn't tie directly into Code Veronica. All of the necessary story elements pertaining to Chris/Wesker would still get incorporated into the CV remake through flashback cutscenes. Admittedly though I'm suffering quite a bit from "remake" fatigue. I just want new RE experiences that I don't have to wait 4-5 years for in between because they're putting resources into remaking games instead of creating new ones.

I think so, mainly to help bring in more new fans without tanks controls so it’ll be more easy to pick up, I love the old school RE and play it yearly, but my biggest and only gripe is tank controls, they’re honestly horrible

RE1 certainly doesn't need a remake. I guess I'd play it if they made one but games like Code Veronica are far more deserving of the remake treatment. I also suspect a lot of the people that want a RE1 re-remake are just the ones who can't get used to the tank controls.

I think small quality of life improvements have helped bring more people into certain franchises. For folks who have played the games they might not want it, but for someone that wants to get into RE they might want a remake.- Maxx

People against the remake, it's a win-win. We get a remake of a great game with new graphics, gameplay mechanics and potential additions to story. BUT, if it turns out to he crap, we still have the original game and the first remake to play. I love fixed camera, but I'll take any remake I can get, especially RE:1. I'd love to explore Spencer Mansion with new graphics and over the shoulder gameplay.

Does Re1 “NEED” another remake? No But, would I also like seeing a new Re1 remake made in the style of RE2’s reimagining? Hell Yes! The RE1 remake is one of my all time favourite games. But heck, I think a remake for it in the new engine has the potential to be really interesting. Even if it doesn’t live up to the first remake we haven’t lost anything

Are we as a species this creatively bankrupt? I love the first remake and think the second is a great leap forward. But I'm growing so tired of this remake hysteria that has gripped us, not just in video games but in movies. Where did all the genuine creativity that brought us the original Resident Evil back in the mid 90's go? Have we passed the point where nothing new or genuine be made anymore?

I don’t think we are past the point. There are so many new indie games that keep coming out. I think game developers are becoming a lot like cover bands. They remake over and over because it is easier and they make a lot of money. Once they stop making money they will have to become more creative.- Maxx

I've been super supportive of Capcom's remakes for a long time, but I would definitely draw the line at another remake of RE1. RE1 remake is possibly the best game in the genre and a blueprint for all developers to iterate upon. We already have two different versions of that game. I might be interested in an RE5 remake, but I would much prefer we just make new things. If we absolutely have to remake something, remake something like Dino Crisis, or Mega Man X. Something that legitimately has an audience and could even reinvigorate a somewhat dormant franchise.

That'd be cool, but the safer option is going to keep being Resident Evil Remakes. They make bank and so for have been pretty well received. Mainline entries are problems, and we see anything new of different things, and who knows when we see 9. A RE1 Re-Remake wouldn't quite cross the line for me, but it is right there at the line. Like I understand it being over the line, but I still think Last of Us Part 1 and even Dead Space Remake are more egregious. -Tin

Besides the first remake was perfect with Mikami's direction and the new devs would probably ruin it. In short, there's not much to do or add to the mansion setting that hasn't been done before and it's time to focus on something new.

The re franchise is creating a schism one for the old and slow metroidvania survival horror while the other is more action and arcade like re 4 remake and 5 and 6 and all those shitty games. I do like the classic fix camers angles of the old games, but I do have fun playing their remakes. RE4 Remake is the best ever made by Capcom, and I'd be happy to see remaking RE1 the second time. Capcom should end the RE remakes with RE1 in 2026.
