My takeaway from the books is that Rickon and Shaddydog probably bonded the quickest, and Rickon started warging Shaggy immediately, though not consciously. Just the fact Robb's final words were his direwolf's name, exactly like Jon's, is suspicious. I think this happened.
@thekingof3006 жыл бұрын
The show doesn't really show how Rob distances himself from his direwolf and his ancestry. With that taken into account, his death seems a lot less random. In literature the death of a character often comes after the symbolic death of his identity. For example, Ned's whole identity revolves around his honor, yet it's only once he gives up his honor that he's killed.
@thekingof3006 жыл бұрын
What do you mean? His identity is that of a northerner fighting for north. By keeping his direwolf in a pen and doing the other things this guy mentioned (idk the specifics, but i trust Alt Shift X wouldn't just lie), he's giving up being a northerner in order to win. That's a betrayal of one's identity (atleast in fiction). As for the afterlife thing. No?Idk? If it is, it plays exactly 0 role in the story and i dont see how it's related to this at all.
@fitbullaussie90026 жыл бұрын
The point is the symbol of restraining his wolf - which is his psychic awareness having its eyes shut to danger. Same thing happens to Jon, he has Ghost put in confinement and Jon is knifed to death. But these are symbols of the psyche being asleep or closed off/ignored. It's the mythology of the sleeping psyche that is in danger, but will awaken to grow from the naive sleep walking boy/child - to the aware awake man. Usually this occurs via a monumental catastrophe. Hell think of snow white and all the animals trying to warn her...

In the books they were all so cool and unique besides Lady: - Grey Wind - Easily the scariest of them all. Robb even said he should never have brought him into battle because he'd killed too many men to fear them now. He just rampaged across battlefields as this unstoppable icon of fear for Robb's enemies, and also through warging allowed Robb to scout out trails to make his marches quicker than the Lannisters predicted. - Ghost - Fights undead, has been warged into by Bloodraven at least once, maybe three times. He might have met Coldhands, he fought with Jon against Wildlings and Qhorin Halfhand beyond the Wall, kept Jon alive in the Wildling camp by scaring the living shit out of anyone who tried to threaten him, and was Jon's inspiration for deciding to refuse Stannis' offer of becoming Jon Stark, Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North, and keep his oath to the Night's Watch. - Lady - Died because Joffrey, Cersei and Robert were fuckwits. - Nymeria - Leads a wolf pack like 200 strong, pulls Catelyn Stark's corpse from the river therefore being essential to the creation of Lady Stoneheart. Wargs into Arya constantly from across the whole damn Narrow Sea, and indirectly helps Arya see again as Arya tapping into warging abilities constantly helped her learn to warg into a cat at will when she was blind. - Summer - Bran's introduction to skinchanging and his powers as a Greenseer. Also fights undead. Manages to beat up Varamyr Sixskins and create his own wolf pack with another warg as a subordinate. - Shaggy Dog - The most vicious of them all and seemingly allowed Rickon to be the first to warg, becoming an integral part of Rickon's identity and childhood. And in the show the remaining four are being killed off or sidelined for CGI budget.

@ivartheboneless79146 жыл бұрын
Tubbs 1971 I've watched the Red wedding like at least 50 times over. First, Talisa is stabbed in the gut, then Robb is shot with crossbows, and finally Catelyn gets shot by a crossbow in the back. In the next scene, Arya sees Grey wind being pierced by multiple crossbows of some Frey soldiers. He dies, and the Hound stops Arya from going to her mother and brother. That is when Talisa dies, Robb gets stabbed by Roose, and Catelyn gets her throat cut. And btw, your last sentence kinda doesn't make any sense.
@thaneofwinrun77506 жыл бұрын
Actually if we want to get technical in the books we have no idea if grey wind is dead or not. It is an off screen death, so we just hear stories about it, and the stories have inconsistencies. There are stories about northmen turning into wolves and raging through the camp. Even the quotes presented in this video for greywinds death don't completely agree with each other. Grey wind may very well be dead but we have to be really careful with off screen deaths we only hear differing stories about. If we were taking every story at face value then Sansa turned into a half bat half wolf and flew away from the red keep. Stories can easily be bullshit, so there is some possibility that grey wind fucked a bunch of people up and ran away, maybe to join nymeria who is in that area. We just don't know.

You deny that marrying the damn Jeyne Westerling (whose house is sworn to house Lannister) was stupid as fuck? How about him dropping one of his lords' head from his shoulders when he could've just inprison him until the war was over? There are other things that I can't recall, but I think I just made my point clear. He wasn't technically retarded. But he was a immature lad. And he, because he was a kid AND a king, should have listened, instead of thinking with his dick.

+Max Bassianini I haven't called anyone retarded. I said some FICTIONAL CHARACTER from a book was retarded. Check your facts. Besides, you and Zach took it personally and even insulted me because I stated MY OPINION. Furthermore, I presented the reasons to support my opinion, so I don't think I deserve the way you are treating me. +Zach Kabia I understand the things Robb must had endured, the pressure and the difficulties. And his cause was a good one; save his father (though later on avenge him), save his sisters, etc. But no one is gonna think about the many thousands of deaths that the stupid Game of Thrones the Lords play is causing? One of Martin's intentions to show us is that war is for the sake of a few highborns, but in the end it only causes suffer and tragedy to everyone, especially the common people. This has even said by Alt Shift X a few times in his videos. All this Game of Thrones thing is pointless (though entertaining for us readers). What is important is to be united for saving Westeros against the imminent threat that is looming above all of them. I'd like to make another point... Robb should have gone North again to save his own land, IMO. He won every battle but he lost the war, even before he died. I'm currently re-reading the books for the 3rd time, and I'm juuust in that chapter in ASOS when Hoster passes away and Lothar and Walder Rivers are in Riverrun to treat with Robb. Catelyn (I don't recall if that was the chapter or the previous one) presents Robb the option of surrender. What does Robb say? No chance. It's his stupid pride, among many other mistakes that made him lose the war (and his head). Every one makes mistakes (even the damn Tywin with his hatred towards Tyrion), but if you make mistakes constantly and you don't act like a king should (for instance, keep your vows), then you're doomed. Because yeah, why Robb's bannermen should keep loyalty to Robb when he doesn't keep his words?
@wafflingmean44776 жыл бұрын
They really do have a habit of it don't they? - Ned Stark trusted Peter Baelish too much, who then led him into a trap which ultimately led to his death. - Robb Stark trusted Roose Bolton too much, giving him too much control over his army, which Roose used to get a third or so of Robb's army killed deliberately, and use his distance from Robb to discretely hand over Jamie to Tywin and organise the Red Wedding with Tywin and Walder Frey. - Robb also trusted the Westerlings too much. For anyone who doesn't know in the books Robb married a girl called Jeyne Westerling. Talisa never existed in the books. The girl cared for him after he received a grievous wound, and cared for him emotionally after he got word his little brothers were dead. When he had sex with her he believed the only honourable thing to do was marry her. The Westerlings plotted to betray Robb from the start, as he had conquered the castle (which was how they met), as Jeyne's mother kept spiking her drinks with Moon Tea to prevent Jeyne from getting pregnant so Robb wouldn't have an heir (Jeyne only found out after Robb's death) and the rest of the Westerlings flipped sides the moment Robb died. One seemed to even be plotting to betray Robb long term as Grey Wind kept on having to be held back from killing him even when Robb clearly didn't want him to. - Jon Snow did not realise how much he had escalated the situation in Castle Black, trusting that while his men might turn on the Wildlings he was bringing south of the wall, they wouldn't turn on him. He also sent all of his allies away from Castle Black. He sent Sam to Oldtown, he sent Aemon with him (to prevent Stannis from burning him), and he sent all the rest of his friends besides Doloros Ed who would have died for him to other castles, as them being too casual with him was undermining his authority in front of other brothers of the Night's Watch. He should have kept them close.
@TrueCarthaginian5 жыл бұрын
@Samuel Bradley He was right, though. Robb made lots of stupid mistakes. He was a talented battlefield commander and usually a decent man, but that's all. Breaking his oath to Walder was neither pragmatic nor merciful. Turning his back on Grey Wind was neither pragmatic nor merciful. Trusting Roose Bolton was neither pragmatic nor merciful. Executing Karstark was neither pragmatic nor merciful. These were all foolish decisions that cost thousands of men their lives and nearly destroyed house Stark, along with several other Northern houses. I am a Stark fanboy, and Robb was a fool.

If he had reached out to Stannis, I'm sure they could have crushed the lannisters together. If he had treated with the Tyrells after king Renly's death, they could have defeated the Lannisters. I'm sure he could have made some secret deal with the Martells or the Royce's he could have gained the support of the Dornish and part of the Vale. Any one of these options could have resulted in a successful campaign, but unfortunately he didn't

its so deeply tragic the way that both Jon and Robb were betrayed and both's last words were the name of their wolves, it shows how even among all of their worries in their lifes, their respective wolf just had such a big connection with them that the last thing they thought of was them, maybe asking for help or maybe as a warning, it also goes to show the simmetries between Jon and Robb, they were clearly close ofcourse, Robb declared Jon his heir if he were to die, they were both betrayed, both following Neds footsteps to their death (even though Jon does comeback).

stupid decisions as king. Killing karstark during a war, holding jamie and then losing him (should've foreseen his mother trying to free sisters) and of course, betraying freys. Not a terrible video, but there are other theories you could work on Alt-Shift X. For instance, is Arya going to kill queen Cersei? In ACoK, Tyrion is talking with Varys about the manner of Ser Courtnay Penrose and Renly. Tyrion doubts the existence of dark magic and states that Stannis could hire an assassin: "A very skilled assassin." "There are such. I used to dream that one day I'd be rich enough to send a Faceless Man after my sweet sister." - Tyrion X ACoK Which gives rise to idea that Arya could use Jaime's face in an assassination attempt of Cersei through Tyrion's plotting, thus fulfilling the valonqar prophecy. Arya knows of Maegor's tunnels, Tyrion knows where it leads (Cersei's bed chambers, for instance). Arya is also one of two people who experienced Ned Stark's beheading and the aftermath of the Red Wedding. The second part of the Legend of Lightbringer involves capturing a lion and driving the sword through the heart. Ned Stark's Ice is going to become Lightbringer, so that means if Arya has Jaime's face she also has Widow's Wail. (Ned Stark's Ice becomes Fire/Lightbringer reflects the series' inspiration: LoTR. GRRM stated that LoTR is is the biggest influence on the series. Narsil, the sword that was shattered and cut the ring off Sauron, was reforged into Andúril: the flame of the west. Plus the series name is "A Song of _Ice_ and Fire" and Ned Stark's Ice is on the front cover of the first book). And Arya was trained by Syrio forel to capture cats and the Hound taught Arya how to euthanize people by stabbing them in the heart. The act of euthanizing someone is called "the gift of mercy". Arya has a chapter in TWoW where she plays in a play about Tyrion Lannister called "The Bloody Hand". This chapter is referred to as "Mercy". The show has its own twist to the play: Arya isn't an actor but rather a spectator. She is sent on a redemption mission to kill the actor who plays Cersei Lannister. Arya is caught by Lady Crane (the said actor) and they talk. Arya gives Lady Crane advise on playing the scene where Cersei lost Joffrey, very likely in reflection of Catelyn watching her first born son die infront of her. When Lady Crane asks Arya for her name she replies "mercy". Then there's the infamous "_For hands of gold are always cold, but a woman's hands are warm_". "_When your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you_". The verse before the valonqar prophecy is from Symeon Silver Tongue's song about Tyrion visiting Shae at Chataya's and it was originally used (in the books) as a blackmail against Tyrion. The show reveals the significance of the verse, which I will get to later. The "Hands of Gold" refers to the golden chain of the hand (which Tyrion uses to strangle Shae with). The chain is worn by the Hand of the King. Tyrion's personal sigil is also a golden hand on a field of red surrounded by lions. However, this could be GRRM's clever double entendre. Jaime also has a golden hand. So "For hands of gold are always cold, _but a woman's hands are warm_" could mean "Tyrion nor Jaime is the actual valonqar, but a woman". Go look up the scene with Ed Sheeran in it. You hear him singing it when Arya is riding through the woods. Then he gets up to the golden hands refrain and all the Lannister men sing "For hands of gold are always cold, but a woman's hands are warm. For hands of gold are always cold, but a woman's hands are..." and they stop RIGHT as they say "but a woman's hands are..." and they look at Arya. And that ENTIRE SCENE concludes with Arya saying "I'm going to kill the queen". You should do a video on this theory. www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/7jpr67/spoilers_main_arya_is_neds_gift_of_mercy/ The entire series starts out with Ned granting mercy to Cersei for her children, so when Ned tells Robert the truth Robert won't kill the children. Now her children is gone, she is driven mad. "When your tears have drowned you" reflects the idea that killing her would be an act/gift of mercy. Arya is going to deliver the justice Ned could not bring to Cersei and it's a literary parallel that her giving Cersei the gift of mercy reflects her father giving Cersei mercy.

Fantastic video! I have been just a fan of the show but I intend to read the books soon. I have been hoping for a connection between the Starks & their wolves like in the movie ‘Dragonheart’ & this is adding to my beliefs!! A lot of people took issue with Arya surviving her wound in Bravvos but I feel that if she can connect with her wolf across the sea that implies a deep connection & maybe since her wolf is alive she is able to heal (with proper medical attention). We never see Sansa take a death blow after Lady’s death so can’t test it on her. The idea that Jon goes into Ghost is awesome & we see Ghost look up at Jon right before he “wakes up”. Summer’sdeath felt out of place & not sure if GRRM would have written that or not. Thanks!!!

I always loved your videos (and don't get me wrong: I also liked this one, but not as much as many of the others.), but within the last months, I often asked myself: Isn't there more interesting stuff to talk about? ASOIAF is full of mysteries, und I would love to see more videos like the one about Varys/the Blackfyre theory (my personal favourite), the Faceless Men/Euron or the Great Northern Conspiracy, about theories that could change our perspective on the whole story. I know about Aegon's conquest or Rhaegar Targaryen, so these videos didn't catch my attention like the more speculative ones used to do. There are so many topics you could cover without entering tinfoil territory - the Great Empire of the Dawn, the role of Ashara Dayne, Melisandre's origins, plans and her final fate, Marwyn the Mage, Patchface, the Deep Ones or the "great stone beast" from Dany's visions in the House of the Undying, ... -, and I would lave to see you tailking about them!
