FYI those washable KN type air filters don't filter as much as the stock filter and the stock filter was designed to flow enough air when it's dirty. If it was a turbo or supercharged engine the bearings would be getting ate up. Secondly the air box also pulled air from the fender cavity, not the hot engine bay. I dont know what value you put on your time but my time is better spent replacing the OE filter than washing a KN

Knowing the fan would be great, I followed your previous videos and installed the Amazon fan. Does fine cruising around town but mines a 5.9l magnum dakota slt 4x4 that also sees some wheeling/mudding. It cannot keep up cooling under those conditions. Need more fan power. Still currently have the old fan shroud with the coolant res and windshield guild built into it.

John, working on my sons ‘99 Dakota and I’m converting it over to electric fan. Do you still recommend the black horse fan? I know you swapped in a later video but we don’t live in Texas so over 100 degrees is more the exception than the rule.

There is a factory option for heavy duty cooling that has a clutch fan and an electric. You might be able to find one for a 5.9 out of a 4x4 or durango that has a towing package, heavy cooling is included in towing.
@shadow1057204 жыл бұрын
I think all the V8s got the bigger radiator but you might want to double check that too. It's also included in the cooling or tow packs.

Jon, what size is the new fan? I still have the stock fan and can't stand the noise. Gonna do the swap this week and want this size. If u remember the vehicle it came from, inform me on that as well. I'd appreciate it more than u know. Especially since I'm in FL, so u know it's hot as hell here! Exhaust is next after I locate scatpack or hellcat mufflers to go with the headers. Decided not to use the 3in magnaflos I have b/c I love the tone of the scats/hellcats on yours. Thanks in advance.

Hi John, I have to agree with leakyjeep. That foam tape will let loose when it heats up, speaking from experience. I have tried that foam tape and over time when it gets hot it let's loose. I was thinking while watching, don't throw the curved edge away that you cut off of the shroud. Do some measuring and cut a little more off the shroud and then plastic weld the curved end back on so you will get like a factory seal on the shroud. If you have never welded plastic together here is a great video of it being done and it's ends up as strong as if it was never cut or broken. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6C4Yq13msuCZ6c Nice looking set up though as far as a fan shroud from a different vehicle. Good luck brother

Go to 8-10 gauge wire and should be fine that foam is going to get sucked in by the fan at some point I would use some grace Iceland water shield it's rubber roof stuff you put down on a roof super sticky and you can deal the side Right to the aluminum core rib and also stabilize the fan at same time ✌️👍
