This week Edward heads out with the brand new 24g SuperFast from Hull Cartridge to see how it stands up against the original and one of our best selling loads the 27g Superfast
We head out to Brandon Wood Clay Ground to see how both the 24g and 27g do on their new and rather challenging layout
The main thing we looked for in this test was the quality of kills and the difference recoil between the two loads
We currently have both plastic and fibre wad available in both 24g and 27g
Please see below the link to view the SuperFasts ballistics on Hull Cartridges website

If manufacturers want to attract youngsters to the sport they need to make cartridges way cheaper and clay grounds also need to charge less . There will be no future for our sport if this doesn't happen. Most of the venues I visit have very few juniors . But air rifle club's are packed with youngsters. £16 a tin of 500 pellets and free air refills hours of cheap sport. I know the price of guns and clothing has never been so good but what's the point if you cannot afford to shoot enough to get any good at it

Most clubs here in Canada are barely hanging on financially. They raise the target fees and the membership goes apeshit. As for the manufacturers, they offer varying degrees of shell quality that’s reflected in the cost. It sounds like what you’re asking is for private enterprise to take a loss on at least some of its products/services for the “good of the cause”. Bottom line is; some hobbies, passions and sports are pricier than others.

@@davedunn7759 agreed some hobbies are more expensive but if you can't get youngsters . Into the sport in numbers there isn't going to be a sport with a ever decreasing membership. The US doesn't seem to have the same problems shooting participation is at a all time high

I’ve recently been looking at 24g carts and been very surprised by the outcome. I used to shoot superfarts, but found them punchy especially after prolonged practice sessions, resulting in fatigue. i switched to Fiocchi FBlacks, as did most especially after the price hike from Hull, and got on really well with them, smoother and pattern really well. Moved onto Officials and Rosa and saw another step up in performance, and all was well in the world. After my usual 28’s being out of stock I tried a slab of Rossa 24’s, I kid you not game changer. Smooth as you like with the same impact as the 28’s, transitional far better between shots due to quicker target acquisition down to less recoil. There’s nothing they can’t ink ball, even at comp level. I’ve not also moved onto B&P F2 Legend 24’s again with the same result, but slightly cheaper than the equivalent Rossa. Whole new world out here of which I’m enjoying. Once you’ve got over the 24g has less lead Issue and you have confidence in them I’m convinced you will see your scores go up. One last point, the price delta between isn’t massive, personally I’d keep the cost the same as your go to 28’s but jump up to the next level of cartridge in the range, this will be a win win, less recoil, better gunpowder, wad, brass etc… 👍🇬🇧

As a slightly older chap I like the 27 gram cartridges but love the 24 grams with a little less recoil. There number one for me. Well done Hull.

As all Olympic shooting disciplines have to use 24grm, and I assume competitions at regional level are the same, surely it is vital to use this load so as the shooter knows how the cartridge performs under all circumstances. IF the shooter wants to seriously compete, using anything other than these could/might actually put them at a slight disadvantage when the chips are down. I am not a competitive shooter, so for longer shots on my local club shoots I use 26 to 28 grms, mostly the former, but stick to 24 for most of my shooting. As long as I keep my modest average of 85%+ up I am quite content.

Nicely done. Been shooting 7/8 oz Gamebore 8s. Trying Bornaghi 24 gram this weekend. Good job. No idea who handles Hull in the US

Yes the recoil is different, I do like a bit of a thump, maybe that is the difference

There would definitely be a measurable statistical difference due to the lower pellet count of the 24 gram loads. From a shooting standpoint, the average shooter would notice a difference over a time span. A top shooter would notice a difference over a longer period of time though. The fact is, less pellets means an increase of missed targets over time. There's nothing which can change that, it just physics.

I liked the 27g I wasn't so keen on the 24, not sure if it's just thought of less is less. I have now started to ues the shooting grounds own 28 8s I think they are much better they may just suit my gun better

I like the 31 grams believing the more lead in the air the more chance I have of a hit. Along with higher velocity gives me more range to get on target. But if your an expert shooter already maybe it doesn't matter, except for the recoil.

These are a clay shooting cartridge, with in the Uk we can shoot a maximum of 28g on the grounds so the 24g is a lighter cheaper option

@@roymartingunsmiths814 We can shoot up to an ounce and an eighth for trap here and are limited to 1250 feet per second. My supplier says the cost is affected most by the amount of antimony in the lead. Antimony makes the lead harder but also lighter. Up to about 5% in the most expensive shells.

I shoot 24g through 3/8 and 3/8 for years and I'm a decent club shooter... I shit the Essex masters this year and used 24g on all the semi close stuff and then black gold 28g on the leggy clays I find that theres not enough differents in speed to notice or maybe that's just me.. Finished on a 161 so I was happy with that!

I thought these were made to fill the gap as hull didn’t have a sim cartridge like other manufacturers thus low recoil and easy to shoot a couple of hundred a day
