My whole life I have had melasma along both sides of my face. Some people had even commented on “dirt on my face”. Finally at 60 I decided to use Curology for anti aging. They prescribed me the Tretinoin with Niacinamide and Tranexamic acid. After using it for about a year I no longer have the melasma. It is gone! I also use vitamin c. I can’t comment on the Tretinoin for wrinkles as I never really had any( genetics- my 94 yo mother has few) but it definitely worked for the melasma.

@@kathleenp3135 If you’re new to exfoliating …the very first exfoliation serum I used when starting a skincare routine at 50 is @sundayriley good genes / lactic acid exfoliator. )I was seriously late to the game getting into a good skincare routine!) The reason I recommended this product is it’s great for all skin types. You can use it day or night (no rules lol) It’s moisturizing for mature skin. Granted it’s not inexpensive, but a little bit goes along way. My skin still gets the most amazing glow when used regularly, even though I’ve gone onto higher strength exfoliating products. This is always in my skincare arsenal. Hope this helps. 💜

I have gone so far past “is it working?” For me, with my sensitive skin my only criteria for working is-is my face not burning, dry feeling, or peeling. I swear it seems like everything makes me burn, get dry crinkles or scales, or makes me peel. I’m not talking about Retinol or vitamin C. I don’t have any actives going. Cerave gives me white, cyst-like bumps on my chin. Vanicream moisturizer and even just Vaseline makes my cheeks get little tiny scales. I can tolerate cold cream to cleanse and I have settled for the little scales from the Vanicream lotion. Forget sunscreen. I have spent so much money trying to find something that doesn’t burn and make me peel (even all mineral and other “sensitive skin” sunscreen). I wear eyeshadow once a week just for fun but when I use any foundation my face stings and peels. What the heck?!?!? I have decided to go to a dermatologist. Are you taking patients? lol

In 2019, I started taking skincare more seriously. I bought a lot of products, got a prescription for tretinoin & started using them all consistently. I did notice a great change in my skin, dark spots & melasma went away. But after a couple of years, using 5-6 products day & night got daunting. Now, I use Bonajour Green Tea Water Cream in the mornings I need a little moisture and a sunscreen. At night I use Agency cleanser, moisturizer, & the formula for me which has tretinoin, azelaic acid & niacinamide, and I use a lip balm or some CeraVe healing ointment. Sometimes I use Vanicream cleanser and a CeraVe moisturizer, and I may use Vaseline or a petroleum based product about 1 night a week on top of everything. I have found pairing down the number products and using what works for me a lot easier to keep consistent.

These are GREAT tips, Dr. Dray! So practical and sensible. I especially like the last tip - if I find something smells foul (hello sulphur) or the texture is off-putting (that L'Oreal Everpure hair mask is slicker than frog snot on a doorknob) I know myself well enough to realize there's no way I am going to use it, so I just donate it or toss it and move on. Keeps my routine simple!

I have controlled rosacea, biggest concern now is a bit of hyperpigmentation left from the tiny pimples that I used to have from the rosacea, and the only products I use now after several IPL lasers, antibiotic and antiinflammatory creams prescribed by the derm, are adapalene 1xweek, spf and every other day use niacinamide and AHA cream, thats it. My daily routine is 2-3 skin products at most, and it works a lot better than the 10 step routines I used to try before. 1.You dont need that many products if you know what you are doing. 2.Invest in lasers if you can, many times they will make your life easier, they are usually worth every penny 3. Using SPF religiously will give greater results than you think

Most of the times i go commando and put sunscreen right away when i wake up. Now my moisturizer is 750 ml and lasts me quite a lot . Personally i see they work my skin feels soft and plump and i have no irritations going on. Hi Jackie! Happy Friday!! I hope you are doing well and that you had a nice day. I had another long day. We've been really busy lately. It rained most of the day and was in the 40's so a bit chilly. I'm ready for a cozy evening at home. And of course I would love it if my dear, sweet friend can join me for tea. It wouldn't be the same without you. I'm sure your kitties are ready for cuddles and so are mine. Let's prop our feet up and relax. I hope you have a lovely evening and have sweet dreams. Peace, joy and many blessings to you always. 💕🙏🙏💕🕊💕🐈☕🐈☕💕

@jackiemarsh2470 Tornadoes in the forecast already! Seems so early. I will pray that your area doesn't have to deal with that. And that everyone is able to stay safe. Good night, sweet friend. 😴❤

I use garnier micellar water to cleanse my eyes since they are so sensitive. For the rest of the face, it is a cleansing foam or gel or oil

Hi Dr. Dray, can you do a video on conditioners? It's not clear from research who should use them and for what. For example I have male pattern hair loss with very short, thin hair and it's unclear if it would be helpful or harmful to use conditioner

Can you please shed some light on salicylate sensitivity please! I was diagnosed with cutaneous mastocytosis with a skin biopsy. I am in the hands of two specialists, a dermatologist, and also an allergist. I would really love some of your professional insight on products that I could be using that are low in salicylates. Thanks in advance Dr Dray!

I’ve been a sentimental fool for a petrolatum moisturizer I used in the 80s. The fragrance reminded me of the old days. Now, my mature skin can no longer handle it. 😔

Hi dr dray, can you do a video on Europe’s new regulations on retinol for the face and body?? I saw a friend post about this

The EU is fond of banning things. But retinol is just restricted OTC by percentage. And prescription is fine. Mo Skin Lab (Italy/toxicologist) has a short video on this and April Basi (cosmetic chemist) also has a short video.

Hello Dr Dray . With your help I was able to get rid of all my acne . Thak you very much. Mostly I use tretinoin and my acne is gone within 2 months. However they always come back. I am not sure what to do for preventing it. If anyone with acne prone screen , please let me know what to do to prevent acne. Like I usually get white heads which will stay as it is till I use tretinoin, after which they become red and disappear over time.

Various forms of retinol works (plus ascorbic acid, it's but not equally important). Period.

I know when things are not appropriate for my rosacea-prone skin immediately, but if it's _working_ is much more nebulous; thank you for helping me set more realistic expectations. We live in an "instant" society, and I'm not immune even at 52. Oh, and those "god forsaken makeup wipes" KILL my skin, too! They BURN, even "Burt's Bees!"

When jn my 20s, I tried a line of skin care, instead of using miscellanous cheap stuff (which worked "fine" for me at the time). 1 year later I have this amazing skin. However it is now very hyper reactive: I seem to blush for cold, for heat...for being uncomfortable with the idea I am going to blush for no reason... Ridiculous. So I stopped the experiment entirely and returned to a more dull resilient skin😂...but a more professional appearance. That line of products in Paris France (50 years later) is still commonly available in most high end department stores, in their cosmetic department. I just looked up the prices...and I am wondering who can really afford over $1000 a year for them!!! It is almost obscene.

I totally agree that micellar water and makeup wipes are not effective for removing makeup. Double cleanse with oils and balms are the best, followed by a mild cleanser.

I just bought the Peter Thomas Roth cucumber gel mask and because I wear it at night, I got up this morning and washed my face and put on the gel and just kept it on there while I did my reading, scrolled Instagram and just did my thing. I hopped in the shower like I do every morning and washed it off,. Maybe that’s how I get the longer duration because I don’t really think I can do it at night since I do tretinoin every night. Or can I?
