My fav SPF lip balm is the Blistex Five Star Lip Protection SPF 30. It's a water resistant organic/chemical sunscreen with Avobenzone, Homosalate, and Octisalate boosted with Butyloctyl Salicylate. It also has Dimethicone and Safflower Seed Oil. It does contain flavor, but it's quite good and doesn't have that awful sunscreen taste. Highly recommend!

Thank you for recommending the Kroger Shimmer sunscreen. I bought some after you first talked about it a while back. I was so pleased at its texture and the way it looks on the skin, but most of all, it's the only chemical sunscreen I have ever tried that does not sting my eyes. I thought I was destined to have to use nothing but mineral sunscreens on my face. I love the Neutrogena tinted mineral sunscreen in the lightest shade. But, it's hard to find an affordable mineral sunscreen that is really high SPF. I am glad I tried the Kroger sunscreen based on your recommendation.

Thx for recommendations! By the way, crane flies are harmless, although annoying. My dad was an entomologist so I learned through him. They rarely feed on anything at this stage of development, much less humans or mosquitos. Maybe just some plant nectar, if anything. They're in reproductive stage, looking for mates, hence the frantic flying behavior. We get them in Dallas area for a few weeks in early spring then they're gone! They're attracted to cooler air & light, so will often hang out near an entry door. Pretty easy to spot inside because they'll fly near a light source.

Ever since then I have had intermittent dermatologist on my hands, nothing drastic but it was enough to make me edgy. Then just this year I have be diagnosed with psoriasis due to stress n having to adjust to Life with Psoriasis. Oh well, such is life. My husband and I purchased a retirement home in California. It had been checked on periodically during covid but no one had lived in it for three years. I drove down alone (3 days of travel!) in October 2022. I opened a cupboard and a palmetto roach came zooming out at me. It was HUGE and I am bug phobic. I ran out of the place and directly to a Marriott. I was on a plane at 10:30 the next morning back to Canada. I refused to return to california until the place had been thoroughly fumigated and my husband was with me. Happy to report, I’ve now spent two winters here, but only because we have monthly pest control! True story.

I sometimes have a tendency to experiment and use products not as intended. For example, I discovered that the 60 ml Purito peptide serum (Centella Unscented) is quite good and moisturizing on the lips and around the eyes. I use it as a night mask or whenever I want. It plumps up lips. For face- I use too, but it runs out quickly and I have plenty of other moisturizers that give me more. I only buy when there are discounts. One of my favorite lip balms is from Dr. Bronner and comes in light blue packaging, fragrance free.

I live in Colorado and the miller moths freak me out. The time they spend by the foothills (where I’m at) depends on the weather. If it gets too hot they’ll head for the mountains. Not only is there dust from them but they excrete a brown liquid that runs down windows and walls. I’ve read the Bear Town series and really like Fredrik Bachman’s style of writing. Britt-Marie Was Here and A Man Called Ove were also great books.

Off and on i also think about doing freelance work in literary translation (Japanese->Eng), but my Japanese is not quite there yet... And in the meantime my own writing has to come first.

I believe I had a parthenogenetic (self impregnating) salamander visit me growing up. We never ever saw them above ground, but one will end up on my bedroom wall every February, she was probably an escaped pet that had southern instinct, but Feb is full winter in northern Montana. My folks said I couldn’t keep her, she was wild, but I could let her stay as long as she wanted, so I had an open terrarium. She always stayed 2 weeks then left, but I don’t think they live long enough that it was all one salamander! One is delightful but I do freak out a bit when I see lizards above ground. I know they are native but they are so good at hiding, they are more startling than seeing a black bear (grizzly beats both by a mile tho).

Reading: I am rereading authors from the past such as Agatha Christie for the purpose of observing how they build a story line. People might underestimate crime fiction authors as "good writers" but I find many of them make very astute observations. I also like John Le Carre, not always an easy read, he makes the reader work for it. Le Carre gave an example once about writing, that if you write "the dog sat on his mat" the reader just goes along with it, but if you write "the cat sat on the _dog's_ mat" right away you're creating _tension_ in the story. "Why is the "cat" on the _dog's_ mat?" It's a small example, but I love details like this.

You know they're going to begin releasing Stanley cup ornaments for Xmas! They would fit perfectly in a piñata. 🙄☺️
