Good video. ...investing in div investing since 2018....both stock price and dividends have grown almost 10x. I'm satisfied.

Pretty sound advice. Some people brag about capital gains, but they never tell you about the losses. Stock trading is a tough game.

On target to make just over $6k NZD in dividends this year after about 5 and a half years of investing into the NZX. Overall stock prices have slumped or gone negative but they'll recover at some point. The journey is slow but it's the best way to build wealth over the long term.

Great to see you watch Tracey’s channel also, I have been watching her for a couple of years, I used to enjoy her monthly budgeting ones as these showed me it is possible and got me very motivated, I think she stopped them as lack of views?, when is your next video coming out,

"Negative DCA-ing" is a terrible strategy. I agree with you on this one Tracey.

Thank you for the video! Dividend investing is great. I love seeing my projected dividends increase every month. As someone who also trades stocks and options I heavily defend dividend investing as most growth investors do not have a plan of how to exit their positions before they purchase shares. They have no max risk so when prices drop they think a stock cannot go lower, which it usually does. Then they don't want to sell in the profit as they think it will go higher. I will stick to being a share hoarder!

I'm an Australian-based investor, to my knowledge the dividend yield is a proportion of the NAV Price of the holding. If your NAV falls your dividend yield falls. Even if it is yielding 12-20% p.a. I had that happen with RYLD, and JEPI isn't particularly providing consistent dividends either. Unless you own $600,000 AUD in ASX Shares yielding an average 3-5% a year with a stable NAV it makes sense. Currently I am setting sights on non-office based Residential, Retail and Industrial REITs; BDCs, energy, and growth stocks (once it crashes).

stock prices matter 100% to me, the game is to own as many cheap stocks that each work the hardest for the biggest dividend. My experience with ETFs to begin with, is that they don’t necessarily deliver the best dividends for an ‘all of market’ approach either. And are often very expensive stock buys

My ETFs down almost $2000,but l am not worry at all 😂. Watching your channle for a few years now,has taught me not to worry. It goes up and down all the time and that $4000 divden's over the year is really becoming life changing for me and has you say when they go down ETFs are on Sale😊.

Very timely video and advice. Agree 100% - you only realise the loss when you actually sell. I find most making comparison to HISA rates in comments below flawed since franked dividends are more tax effective than just interest earned & with drp, compounding make it much more tax effective (stage 3 cuts will make it even better). Also HISA rates are variable and have to meet multiple criterias (honeymoon rates, specfiic withdrawals, etc.) set by lenders or have it locked away in a TD. Being in accumulation stage, I have core/satellite (80/20) so mine isn't a binary position like yours but I am finding the stability of yield much motivating & opportunity to add to my overall position. I think most don't really realise the physiological part of investing - returns of growth portfolio on a chart over long period looks really good and could beat dividend stocks but most don't have a stomach to see value of their hard earned cash fall 30% so passive dividend investors I feel are much more insulated and stay invested (however not immune to higher costs borne by business with higher borrowing rates)

Not sure if this ^^ was a sarcastic. If you watch all the previous videos, this gets discussed a lot and criteria to exclude these. In general no one can guarantee someone isn't a dividend trap but businesses with stable and consistent history would be my picks.

Is this the same as buying a landed house vs apartment? Apartments capital price might go up or down but rental yield is higher than leasing out a house.

I've noticed these days that there might be not big difference between cash in a high interest bank account and dividends ETF. Dividends might be a slow way for building wealth, but it is comfortable for people who doesn't like to make investment as their full time job.

I'm thinking if the price of the stock rises so much that it goes from a 6% return to a 3-4% return you should consider selling and then using the money to buy another stock that is under valued and paying a 6% return. All things being equal. Sure, there are tax considerations in selling, but it pays to keep your mind open. If a better stock opportunity comes by you should not close your mind off to jumping from your old shares to your new shares if the new shares also has the same growth potential but is under valued. And for some who have a good instinct for the future, selling off before an expected fall can multiply your earnings. in 2020 when the news came out about covid, fast acting investors would have sold their shares and bought them back soon after at half the price.

Mine fluctuate a lot overall and I have always been in the red in total but the only time I have sold is to get rid of all but my fully franked shares. I am lazy and want the easiest option tax wise lol

I am just too confused....I've invested 100K into FSKAX at Fidelity, it says the dividend yield is 0.34% but I am told everywhere this is a good investment for long term growth, but I am not actually making any money right? The stock is just increasing it's value because it is an index fund, but the dividends will never be good enough to live off of? Even at 1 million dollars in FSKAX, how the heck do you make any money if there is little to no dividend yield? I am confused.

So your main point is never be an "emotional" investor. Many are which actually delivers us the bargains. This can also be applied to many non regular dividend stocks which may have taken a sudden reputational hit but the companies financials are still very sound. Bargain!

I'd go further and buy annuities in which you give money to an insurance company and they give you a lifetime income in return. 99% of the people reading this will disagree. However, if you wait until you are in your 70s and buy a no-guarantee immediate annuity, the income could be the equivalent of a guaranteed 15% return before taxes. At least this is true for prescribed annuities in Canada. I don't know about the U.S. or other countries. Please critique this only if you understand Canadia annuities.
