I feel like so many people complained about the bottom USBC port because you couldn’t charge the device while propping it on a table with the kickstand, which especially hampered multiplayer use cases when a TV or dock wasn’t available. Nintendo have been increasingly invested in the principle of multi faceted design. Where possible, they design features (of hardware and with game mechanics) that can benefit the player in multiple ways. As such, I strongly believe Nintendo will use the port in as many ways as proves feasible.

Yeah, the secret sauce is the software. Nintendo had a 2014 chip in a 2017 device. You either make your game work, or you don't put it on switch. Same for switch2. Either you make it work on a 2020 chip in a 2025 device or you don't release your game for the switch. Switch2: better GPU, better CPU, 3x RAM. If they could make Doom2016 work on switch1, switch2 is going to be way easier to port to.

@EMLtheViewer
@EMLtheViewer 6 күн бұрын
@@zombl337og I understand the sentiment, but it seems that that’s not going to be a reality for a long time, if ever. Some extremely graphically intensive games, especially many VR games, will likely never end up on a battery-powered portable device until the technology improves significantly, by which time our idea of “good graphics” will have moved too, as it has. Regardless of that, Nintendo has always kept their own games on their own hardware, and there is good reason for that both from a business perspective (exclusives sell systems), a development perspective (far easier and cheaper to optimize a game for a single hardware configuration), and a design perspective (games can be designed specifically with the target system in mind, including any unique/uncommon features that may not be on other platforms). I personally don’t mind it (and don’t currently consider it realistic), but I understand why a lot of people want all games on all platforms.

@Matt-jc2ml

@BynoShadow
@BynoShadow 5 күн бұрын
@@Alistair_7609With most of Sony's PS5 output also running on PS4 (with sacrifices) due to the install base, and the most noticeable jump this generation being storage speed, the Switch 2 should be able to pull off most third-party games at 720p60 if not 1080p60 with upscaling. I don't really care if it does. 4K, as long as it hits 60 frames a second no matter what the resolution is. Dynamic resolution or upscaling and a locked 60 frames a second and I'll play it on the switch every damn time lol. Can't take my Xbox or PS5 or PC on the go, and my steam deck can only target 30fps in most modern games (if they run on there) and if I can push past that, it has to run at 30 fps anyway to get more than an hour of battery life lmao

The Secret sauce is not hardware, but software. The Steam deck, Windows gaming handhelds, and the Xbox's OS is a burden to it's software, The Xbox Series X has an exceptional lead on paper, but most real world comparisons typically favors the PS5 in areas simply due to PS5 having a more gaming focused API while the Xbox uses an isolated Windows OS. The Steam Deck's SteamOS vs a Windows OS installation shows a 40% margin of error in performance running the same games. But Proton's compatibility layer falls short to native SteamOS ports. Developers praised Switch's NVN API which has 100% access to the hardware vs Playstation's dual API Gnm (low level typically used for indie games and old 3D software similar to DX10 and older) and Gnmx (High end API, has numerous of debugging features and documentation) If Switch 2's NVM2 offers the same unrestrained hardware access, you should be seeing a little more than what you could get with the same RTX hardware. I believe there will be exceptional games that push the Switch 2's hardware, but I also believe there will be many games that will squander and make the Switch 2 look weaker than it appears. Reminder the Switch 1 can run Crysis 1 with a global illumination solution at a higher resolution and framerate than the 1.7 billion USD revenue juggarnaut Pokémon Scarlet/Violet because they forgot to cull out an ocean that eats 2.8GB of it's 3.2GB RAM.

But at the end of the day, Nintendo games having PS4 level power is enough to excite anyone. I don’t think the top port will be used for anything other than making it easy to play in handheld mode with a charging cable plugged in. When it’s plugged in the bottom it’s very awkward to hold the console without the cable getting in the way (unless you have a 90 degree plug on your cable). The Steam Deck and ROG Ally all do it that way but obviously they don’t have to accommodate the simple dock mechanism Nintendo came up with. Plus, anything like a camera wouldn’t work very well if the console is docked and far away from the player. Peripherals that connect to the Joy-Con rails would be more likely to work for both modes. I would like to be optimistic about fun peripherals, but the OG Switch could have easily had peripherals that connected to the Joy-Con rails but we never got anything. Then of course the Lite killed any chance of peripherals by having fixed controls. I hope Nintendo can surprise us, but I think with a (relatively) new CEO, they aren’t going to take chances.

for the top usb port, i wonder about displays. Nintendo has continually been experimenting with VR, and producing patents around handheld VR accessories too. Maybe they'd jump in to the PSVR2 kind of console VR space with a HMD? I think if they did intend to try it, there would probably be signs in the joycons, like maybe constellation tracking IR LEDs? There might be some appetite in the market for a kid friendly cheaper mobile-grade VR setup that isn't made by a creepy social media company

Nintendo likes cheap profitable hardware so I'm expecting the retail model to probably have lower clocks than we have seen on development hardware. This means longer battery life and higher yields for the chipset. I wonder if the extra power socket is for a VR headset. It seems this generation has the hardware capable of providing some VR experience games. I could see the main Switch display part sliding into a VR headset quite nicely and providing a decent VR experience. Remember how the wii u struggled to even match the PS3 and 360 for many games despite being launched years later. In the end it was confirmed the wii u gpu was 176 Gflops significantly less than 360 and PS3 in raw performance. I bought a Doogee T30 Pro tablet for £60 of Amazon (warehouse) that can emulate some Switch games at full speed.

Only having a bottom usb port that prevents you from charging the console while using it in tabletop mode with the kickstand was the biggest criticism people had about the Switch 1 harware, I don't think there's some secret reason for the top usb port this time except to make charging more convenient in all possible situations. Only having one usb port at the top would make the engineering of the dock a lot more complicated, and asking people to dock the Switch 2 upside-down would go against Nintendo's 'intuitive use' design philosophy.

I mean if it is the t329 or "whatever it was codenamed" chip it would put it around a base ps4 level of performance heavily under clocked like the switch was and then the docked making the performance more in between a ps4 pro and a series s. What core and thread count are they going for because i dont know how their going to pull off 60fps let alone big aaa games in general with engines becoming more resource hungry and ray tracing becomes less of an option and more of a requirement. It could either go in their favor or backfire a few years after its launch with most likely a pro variant with beefier cooling and extra rt cores as well as cpu frequency increase and extra ram
@GameslordXY

Nintendo don't need non-Nintendo games. Certainly not AAA games. They aren't very succesful on Nintendo consoles anyways. So who cares if AAA developers are making some games RT hardware acceleration a requirement. Nintendo will manage.

@@stephkm3655 nothing is for sure confirmed yet. 3rd party games don't run well on the switch and it's due to the obvious reason that historically they don't run well and they are heavily downgraded versions typically. Now this would not be the case if they had hardware that could run the games. To say that AAA games don't do well on a underpowered system is...... Shocking .... I own a switch and I play it every day I'm not going to get a switch 2 if it is just going to play Nintendo games that's ridiculous and not at all what the general install base wants at all for the new system.

Isn't it funny how graphics that people called *"epic"* and *"photorealistic"* are labeled *"meh"* and *"cheap"* just a few years later? *We are simply looking for a pro-level upscaler that doesn't require a software overhaul for every single game. Plugging our SW1 games into the SW2 should be able to upscale plug 'n play style.* *ie: A SW1 ROM (the game file) can be unmodified, yet running that ROM through an emulator (engine that has unlimited potential), it plays the game at 1440p or 4K or even 8K FLAWLESSLY. That is equal to hardware upgrades. So, I think THAT is more what people are asking about.*
