You mentioned blu tooth, I’ve been burned by three different third-party wireless headphones to use commuting with my Apple devices, laptop and iPad. They work great when brand new, then in a year or more, connectivity to those devices gets less and less predictable or fails outright. They just don’t keep up with Apple’s software and security updates. So, when I needed a noise cancelling portable headphone now, I bought the latest Beats (which Apple owns and presumably supports). It just works.

the biggest issue with modern tech is the battery. Unless you keep it charged between 50-80% all the time the battery health will die. I have original iPhone that I keep the battery charged and it is still doing well today.

This is why the Apple Watch Gold Edition was a dumb idea from the start, to have something that expensive in a line of things that gets updated every year? An iPad Gold Edition would have made better sense 🤣🤣. It's very true that it doesn't make much sense to build something to last 20 years when it's not going to be desirable in the next 5 years, and it's not just the battery going dead, with internet connectivity communication devises need to have up to date software to safeguard services being run through, so for most you mostly need to upgrade within 5-6 years if you are using it as a your banking and other sensitive services device.

I love you guys , I wish that I could afford one of your least pricy rigs . By the way , how much better is your entry level headphone than the Sennheiser HD580,600/Schiit gear series that I've owned and loved since Tyll introduced them to me in 2011 ? I hope you never stop broadcasting , i'd be a sad day that you announce your retirement or Sale of the Company to some Asian outfit . Tony in Florida

Overall, planar headphones are far better than low cost dynamics, IMO. We take planar to another level.

Can a headphone ear pad be made that never requires replacement? When I buy an Abyss headphone I want ear pads that don’t need replacement due to daily wear. Are your Diana ear pads that good ??

All depends on usage, we've seen people have the same pads for years, and then a few quite the opposite.

I'm not 100% sure about it. The reason why Japanese cars dominated back in 80's and 90's was due to the balance between the price and durability. Made in Japan is still synonymous to high quality even today. Hence, I believe people would still buy the high quality products. The problem is that the capitalism is inherently materialistic and disposable so that long lasting products are almost paradoxical in its existence.
