Does the Camaro SS 1LE beat a ZL1 on track?

I put up a poll on IG for who would win this. 38% Said the SS 1LE would win, being the tighter course. Who did you think would win?

I figured the Z would end up with the W on this one. The ZL1 and the SS 1LE have the same suspension but the Z gets all the better cooling and 200 more ponies to play with. Careful with the braking zones though, brake oversteer is a known issue with the ZL1's due to all the added weight they throw around (happened a couple times to me as well in my 17 Z).

SS 1LE and ZL1 (and ZLE for that mater) all have the same cooling systems for engine, oil, trans, and rear diff

2:56 is my biggest fear. You handled that with poise. I honestly expected the SS to win. It's a good deal lighter but the ZL1 has the power and it handles the weight well. Great racing!

Hey, just picked up my 24 ZL1 A10 yesterday. Slick car - looks excellent (better in person, inside and out). Question, is it fuse 51 you pull to keep the exhausts open all the time? Another dumb question - do you pull it when the car is turned off?

I love the track videos. I wish you were out on the east coast as I'd love to help you with your driving. When you start to pick up the pace, I would like to humbly recommend the following: 1) A set of Apex SM-10 wheels in 18" size. You can run Slicks (Pirelli, Hankook, Hoosier, etc.) I can also show you how to pack the wheels in your car -- yes they will all fit. Get a Cordless Gun to remove and retorque the lugs and a 140ftlb torque stick. Also a floor jack. It will all fit in your car. Get tarps. 2)If you haven't already changed out the brake fluid, get some Castrol SRF fluid. Change it at the beginning of the season and midway thru the season. It's expensive but it works. Stock pads are fine. 3)You mentioned camber. Look to go to 2.8 front and 2.0 rear. I'm not sure what stock settings are on non-1LEs, but that's the sweet spot.

Thanks man! Yeah the wheel debate is happening as we speak haha. I used SRF for a bit and a few others but i fell in love with Endless Rbf brake fluid. It has such a consistent brake feel i even have two unused bottles of srf in the garage. Thanks for the tips man ill def look into the that!

How does the ZL1 handle compared to the SS 1LE? Does the ZL1 handle better then the SS.?

Both are fe4 suspension i think track mode rides firmer on the zl1 and you feel more of the road in all modes which is nice. You gotta drive then differently though with small weight difference but big power difference approach etc is just more aggressive. I will say my track times vs my ss 1le just a few months before dropped almost 6 seconds on big willow in the zl1 so that has a lot to say.

Even professional drivers go off track sometimes. But try not to late brake in sport comp 2 at 110 in 50 degree weather

Same FE4 suspension. Some slight changes and tuning.

Good work ZL1. What suspension setting were you on? Would stiffer springs or the DSC controller obviously help you? Ever considered a KW V3 or the OEM DSSV coilover setup?

Thanks man. Uhm i dont think so the car is flat completely in turns has zero roll. If anything maybe wider tires. But honestly im not even at the full limit of the zl1 driving skill wise

I tried this track with the ZL1 and I was just scared of going off track so I couldn’t even get confortable. I don’t even remember my times. And also it didn’t help that my SC3’s were almost done but i definitely wanna go back idk why I can’t get comfortable in SOW.

I totally get it. Its a more technical lower speed track and 650hp takes some self control. Big willow or buttonwillow the car will feel more at home.

Zl1 is basically an SS1LE with an LT4. Very few scenarios where it would lose.
