Exactly! The tesla cybertruck came out recently but they habe yet yo mention a single worf about offroad! In the meantime Toyota anounced a smaller hilux in thailand and it has already been in all kinds of mods

Mercedes sells the G Class with a straight six diesel overseas. Would have been awesome to see that or even a gasser straight 6 here in the States.

Always appreciate these videos. Zero chance I'll ever own one but its very cool to see a G Wagon up on the ramp. Definitely need to do a video on a Wrangler Rubicon to round out the rankings! Also very excited about the new Land Cruiser (Prado but we can't call it that in the US) and see if it can get up to those lofty LC200/300 numbers or if its closer to the 4Runner.

I had a chance to take my '19 G63 with stock 21" wheels and street tires to the OHV park in Gorman. The three lockers definitely came in handy on some sections such as the frame twister where only two wheels met the surface on some portions. The IFS really limits the travel in the front, but well worth it for the improved ride quality from the previous generation. Overall the car is a compromise any way you look at it - suspension is not ideal for luxury cruising but also not perfect for off roading. Mercedes went through a good deal of effort to preserve its off-road performance, though. They kept the three lockers, improved the breakover, approach and departure angles, increased the ground clearance, increased the water fording depth, and reduced the weight. After they did all that, they added huge six-piston calipers on the front (AMG model), so nothing less than a 20" wheel will clear it, limiting tire setups for off-road. And man, scratching those side pipes is not cool. Still, nothing quite looks like it on or off-road, and even though it doesn't flex as much as a Land Cruiser on the incline, it sure makes up for it by flexing at the valet stand and mall parking lot. Hey, some of us care about that too.

Have you ever done the solid axle G wagon? Just curious. Those radius arms give it great beef but they're not very flexible. I've found the droop to be lacking. thanks!

I follow a lot of you reviews I'am an owner of a 2022 land cruiser prado Vx here in panama.... its a mechanical twin of the 4runner with the kdss except it has a 2.8 liter diesel engineee

Idk about the 600 but in the original 200 series test in 2017 the lx and lc were different by 2 points. Pretty awesome, think it was like 645 for the lx and 647 for the lc

The reality is that in stock form, the current G is the most capable of the off-roaders that he has tested, and perhaps any stock car. I’ve seen that thing go head to head with Wranglers that have lockers and better approach/break over angles, yet the G handled the obstacles much easier (i.e. on first attempts, less corrections, less slip). No idea why that is. Before witnessing that, I would have been convinced that the Wranglers would destroy that heavy thing.

@@AlexMousavi the channel Diariomotor does an in depth head to head test against a Rubicon. You tell me which was superior. That is on stock all-seasons, not all-terrains. The Jeep has all-terrains. AND we’re not even talking about the G 4x4 squared, which has portal axles and 40+ inch tires. So yes, I stand by my statement, the new G class is the most capable off-roader in stock form.

Dan, that is not considered a 5 link rear suspension, you dont include the track bar. Maybe your thinking of most modern Mercedes and other higher end cars with independent rear suspensions which are defined as 5 link, where they have 5 individual links per side.

Great video Dan! I love the suspension geekery! RTI is a little disappointing. But I still want one. Maybe after my 1998 Land Cruiser (triple locked with 349k miles at the moment) dies then I can swoop one of these puppies? Most of these in LA are gently used at the mall with very few miles, so even when they are 10 years old, they are in great shape. Thank you for the video.

The best G-wagen is the Squared model with the portal axles that give it around 18 inches of ground clearance. The G550 does not really offer extreme ground clearance....

I built a 2016 G63 with a lift and 35” tires. It was ok off road but articulation and weight were major limiting factors. My Wrangler Rubicons have been far superior off road.

My dad was a subscriber to Car and Driver when it was called Sportscar Illustrated. I still have those issues and was a subscriber myself for 40 years. I'm not anymore because of this bullshit.
