I think having the music get interrupted for bosses is fine if you are intentionally fighting the boss. But how they tend to run into you sometimes, your music just keeps getting pushed aside. That's too bad

I guess that makes sense. I just don't get how the power boost goes without an indicator of some kind. It has an effect on results in Cyber Space, even if it's not in the arcade mode. Also asterisks with best times tend to carry a negative stigma, as if it's being counted, but invalidated with that mark.

No, the asterisk doesn't impede on unlocks. I still have Power Boost and all my Extreme Mode S Ranks.

I don’t see what’s wrong about the music being a collectible. It’s really fun finding it on your own, especially on a new game mode.

@@GottaBeFrank I’m more on the pleasantly surprised side with the music notes in particular. the only heads up we got was “jukebox” with sonic standing still listening to music, and I feel like the easy thing to do is just give you 50 songs for free. Totally took me by surprise that they incorporated it into the gameplay like they did. I see what you’re saying tho

Yeah. They took a "it's not a bug, it's a feature" mindset and ran with it. I'm fine with that, but it'd be nice to have a bit more transparency. Maybe giving some props to the community before giving it a name would have been neat, but whatever.

The updates about what I expected (although options to skip the power boost animation and get rid of the slot wheel were welcome surprises) and I don't see the rest of them doing a whole lot to substantially improve the game at all considering the short time frame we're getting them in. As for the update itself, it's okay. I've never been a big fan of the combat in this game so battle rush was a one and done "Load up the 99 file and mash my way through" affair, i'm kind of ambivalent on the cyberspace one too since while I like those more, it doesn't really add anything outside of just having a convenient way to play them all at once if that's what you fancy. I do like how Extreme mode changes the S rank times and ring requirements though as I wasn't expecting them to go in and touch those up with my only disappointment on that front being that they don't rearrange red rings too.

I think personally the update definitely was solid,nothing too crazy but I welcome some of its stuff it brought,especially photo mode cause I love it but needs more options for sure 💙 I definitely felt a bit negative towards it at first but really its a solid job and I’m hoping 2 and 3 deliver much better for sure

I genuinely think they should have delayed Extreme Mode. I love the idea, but it’s missing some things that would make it a fun mode. For one, I think the parry window should be drastically reduced. Parrying is still super overpowered because you can just hold LB + RB against anything and you’re invincible. Right now the window is like… 30-45 seconds? Pretty insane. I’d say reduce that to 1 second to actually make it about timing. Next, they really should have tweaked Giganto in Extreme if they’re going with the whole “no damage run” thing. He’s by far the hardest boss in the game now simply because of the lasers on his back that you sometimes can not avoid. Those two things and maybe add a little something extra as a surprise, and I think Extreme would actually be worth revisiting the game for. I’m pleased with the additions included in this update since I already do like the base game, but I think Extreme should have been pushed to Update 2 because at the moment… it feels kinda half-assed.

There's a 30-45 second parry window?! WHY?

@@GottaBeFrank If I had to assume, they were likely nervous about challenging the player too much. Which is pretty sad because the parry looked really fun when they first showed it off. But as it stands, it’s literally a slightly advanced block button that is completely overpowered. You can jump in the air, hold down LB + RB and just stay suspended in midair for a whole 30 seconds until the window finally reaches its limit. Funnily enough, there’s a mod that reduces the parry window to only 1 second, and it actually makes it about timing your button press, which is what a parry is in the first place. I know I’m getting deep into this, but one game that gets a similar mechanic right is Kirby and the Forgotten Land. That game doesn’t have a parry, but you can block which does take damage but not as much as you would if you didn’t block. However, with good timing, you can hold the block button and perform a dodge roll with the left stick like in Smash, and if you dodge at just the right time, time slows down and you can get some extra hits in on your opponent. It’s super satisfying to do at just the right time, and I wish that’s how Sonic Frontiers’s parry worked. Even though I enjoy Frontiers, I find it funny how Kirby does the risk-reward aspect of combat infinitely better lmao

Personally, quite decent imo. I played the game since December, completed all 3 saves yesterday and I thought the game was good. This update is pretty good so far, haven’t used all of the things it introduced but I thought it made it better, 1:16 & 1:37.

Update 2 is probably going to add more to photo mode,like no collision on the ground, face expression, poses, and more filters most likely. Im pretty sure they wouldn't leave it like that

While I am excited for what the future may hold for Sonic, after Frontiers and maybe the 2D game if it releases later this year and origins plus, my Journey with Sonic in the games will be coming to an end after 2023, but damn can I say that if there was anytime to play a new Sonic game I'm glads its when my Journey with gaming as a whole comes to an end as well

All the speed strats for cyber space are eknowledge for who want to make a good time for a total speedrun. That doesn’t change that the levels weren’t meant to be traverse with those in mind, making the challenge way too easy for an S rank. So yea, the asterisk is for that. For the music thing, all the bosses are literally marked in the map island and are really easy to spot on the distance, especially in the last island (aside squid but at that point is really a minor complain) making the whole “you have to stay still” kinda over the top And for last the whole patch is not even here yet so what is the thumbnail?

This game went from a 8/10 to a 6/10 for me. Unless the Updates include improved Physics and controls, more/better cyberspace Levels, Fixing the damn Pop in, Harder Combat and Enemies, and actually engaging Open Zone level design then it’ll remain an average game at best. No matter how many Buggy and content lacking features they add.

Yeah, DLC 1 did just the bare minimum of anything like Extreme mode having one hit, making the enemies' health bar a little bigger, and no level-up for Sonic. Where it's kinda bull In some areas, where they should have a much different approach. Also, you could still level up Sonic it seems to make him stronger, they just hid the ui, where you could see your levels. Even the Jukebox doesn't have enough Sonic music, just chose what everyone knows instead of having a playlist of different Sonic games, can't have them play in cyberspace like Gens and they didn't put any effort into sound mixing, which ends up being too loud or quiet. Also, Jukebox kinda sucks a little about how nonintuitive when you start using it. I still have it at 5 out of 10 for the game. I only could see them add momentum in the open zone and maybe cyberspace instead of improving the physics or just adding spin dash and calling it a day like the Jukebox.

I agree about the physics. When I played the game, I found myself wanting to use the drop-dash more than the boost, but I had to keep using the boost if I wanted to get anywhere. I didn't really notice the pop-in, mostly because I don't really look for it. Overall I found the game kinda boring, and no amount of updates will convince me to comeback.

The songs felt like it was selective since there were a bunch of forces Songs and lost worlds Songs even remixes from Gens and Colors, there was even one Song from Forces that was not the very least memorable, which was the menu theme or something like that. There some worked, but some didn't. They used 1-2 American versions of CD ost that not a lot of people even care about. It felt selective since they used Fist Bump, Sonic Heroes, Live and Learn, Open Your Heart, and I'm Here, but that's all I could remember. But there are barely any music riders, rush, rush adventure, or more 06 songs than what was given. Also, this may come off as harsh, but... Who cares that they fit every island theme. People want to listen to Sonic music even though the players do, but it's not enough. Gens had more songs in the game on day one day with proper sound mixing (No mention of an anniversary) while Frontiers did not get as much or even good sound mixing either. There were some of the songs that I didn't care too much about except for a few and just did not work even though they can be changed. It's pretty much like if you wanna listen to Sonic Boom from the OVA, you can't do that I don't think unless there is a mod, which is improving the Jukebox. Also, the open-zone music was fine, but it would have been better if they could have the Jukebox work in cyberspace like Gens because most of the cyberspace ost is not good in of many ways for me and makes me wish for the late 90s to early 2010s style of Sonic music styles to make a comeback. Also, the extreme difficulty level up... Yeah, I remember watching Premy's stream of it and he was still able to level up his stat, but the UI wasn't there. The Animation played and the stats tell him that it levels up to this a certain amount. It's just they removed the level-up UI to see your Stat. He said that they should remove the Kocos or the Elders. Or actual coding, so you don't level up. Also, I think that I did say before that the Extreme difficulty should have had a much different approach in making a challenge because some of these are just basic things to make things difficult. I kinda already gave my 2 cents on what they should have done, but maybe it could be worded better.

I am of the opinion that this is kinda stupid. I don't mind extra content in the form of a bonus story or an extra playable character, but when the update for AN OPEN-WORLD GAME has to include the DAMN CAMERA OPTION, it makes me feel like the game is incomplete. Not to mention I already hate the game and no force on this earth is gonna make me pick it up again.

It's really not complete and most of the new content isn't really something I'd come back for. If I wasn't making a video on it, I wouldn't have played Frontiers again.

I don't care about the manpower or stuff like that, the story drives me to smash my TV with my controller, the game is overall very boring, and the fact that there wasn't even a camera, at this point I'm done with SEGA. Their idea of "difficulty" seems a lot like what Fire Emblem Awakening and 3 Houses have done: Normal and Hard aren't very far apart, while the highest difficulty does really cheap and lazy things to seem harder, like make all enemy reinforcements attack you as soon as they appear and give them unfair skills, while also increasing their stats by ridiculous degrees. Whereas Fates and from what I've heard of Engage are more like SA2 Hard Mode, Heroes Super Hard Mode and Shadow the Hedgehog Expert Mode. While they're not perfect, they actually have effort put into them.
