Your channel reminds me of my childhood. At age 5 my dad started me on running the trap lines with him and I continued until Vietnam called. We had 125 traps, they were the #2Victors and every morning was get up before sunlight and run the traps. We did everything ethically for the animals we trapped, never left them in a trap, we ran the traps every day. Great times, of course we also fished and hunted. That was in Decatur Illinois up until I was 18

You’re a good instructor. Thanks for what you do. Over the years you’ve improved my game and helped more than you could know,. Maybe you don’t hear ( or read) it enough but there are very few basic hard core trappers out there who listen to anyone before checking with you. Thanks and keep doing you! We’ll be here.

Interested to know things you may look for to make sure a trap is ready for use. What determines when a trap is no longer effective?

I wanted to target coyote so I got some Bridger #2 dogless for Christmas 2 years ago and was successful last year at getting my first trapped coyote. I just recently bought some #3 Alpha’s. I have a farmer that would like to see some coon taken off the farm so I purchased some DP’s. So far 13 taken, which is not big numbers but this is the first year doing it..

68 yrs old and going to try trapping. Too many coyotes and nest raiders pressuring the turkeys and fawns. I've watched a 100 hrs of YT video the last 2 weeks looking for the best set-up for coyotes, coons, possum, etc. After watching this I finally decided to go with 6 of the Duke's #2 dogless offset traps, 3 Duke's 1.5 traps, and 3 of the Duke's dog proof traps. I bought 2 "starter kits" and upgraded to the dogless traps and added a few other essentials.

Question, when do you start setting traps? Does it differ on targeted species?
@mikewhitman7452 жыл бұрын
Around here it just depends on when the legal trapping season starts and ends. Also if your looking to get into it check your state for licenses and classes needed. Not sure what other states do but we have a class and workbook that's required before you can get a license to trap.
@randybrisendine20433 жыл бұрын
Colorado is very restrictive on trap sizes. If you are not trapping for nuisance critters, it's live traps only. So I live vicariously through trappers videos like yours, Trapper J, 330 Maniac, Iowa Trapper, etc. For me, Spring and Summer are fishing videos but when the air has a taste of brisk-ness and a fog colors one's breath, bring on the trapping.

I have a question for you. When doing dirt hole sets, every trapper talks about using wax dirt if it's cold out. Why cant you put salt in with the dirt🤔 instead of wax
@toddmann883 жыл бұрын
You can use salt, but salt is also corrosive, waxed traps help prevent corrosion, and there are other anti freezes you can use

Wash it with dawn dish soap that kills fleas or you can brush it to get some out. If that fails wrap in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer overnight
