Does the pill cause BREAST CANCER? || Dr Liz O'Riordan

A new study has found that all forms of contraception, including those that only have progesterone, increase your risk of breast cancer by 25%. That's scary, but the actual increase is tiny. When you are 20, your risk is already small - 1 in 1000 women. Breast cancer is mainly a disease of older women - when you are 90, your risk of getting it is 1 in 2.
They found that for women aged 16-20 who used progesterone-only contraception, over the next 15 years, an extra 8 in 100,000 women would get breast cancer. It does NOT mean that if you take the pill you have a 1 in 4 chance of getting it.
If you are concerned about your risk, there are other things you can do to decrease it that have evidence behind them - exercise regularly, maintain a healthy weight for your height and cut down the amount of alcohol you drink.
You certainly shouldn't decide to stop contraception based on your future risk of getting breast cancer.

Cancer doesn't run in the females of my family but we are realizing that prostrate cancer runs in the men at an elderly ages. I recently started using birth control pills due to my extremely heavy periods, that drops my blood count and the pill is helping me sooooo much right now. I am soooo happy.

Sincerely appreciate you speaking on this topic. I was diagnosed this past May with bilateral breast cancer, and I had been feeling guilty that I unknowingly played a role in my cancer development because I've used the pill for contraception for MANY years; it's not what I imagined age 40 would look like.

Do factory chickens blame themselves when they've been fed only for the purpose of financial gain at their harvest? We are ALL fed engineered to be unhealthy dependant consumers for the purpose of maximizing their profit. It is not your fault or my fault that THEY CHOOSE PROFIT over love, self-love, self-care, true society, true values. It's NEVER your or any innocent cash cow's fault!!

I was on BCP for almost 10 years for acne problems. I had good skin when I was on the pill. Then I get married and had 2 kids at 39 and 40. Discovered that I’ve stage 2 BC at 43. Went flat after a failed margin lumpectomy. Had my lymph nodes removed on one side. BC doesn’t run in my family and my genetics test was negative. That’s why I’m leaning towards the notion that the pill cause my BC.

@coffeedreamer4621 Oncology drug market made 147 Billion off her and all cancer patients in 2021, it is predicted to INCREASE 8% to 289 Billion by 2030. I think the physical emotional pain and suffering her and her children and husband suffered and the financial bills give her a little platform to verbally express her resentment. She definitely PAID for it. I think big pharma will be ok. In fact the way they designed it they're ONLY increasing their wealth off us.

I'm sorry to hear that. The pill only increases the risk of breast cancer by a TINY amount. It is unlikely to be the cause.

The combined pill also substantially reduces the risk of other much deadier cancers including ovarian, colorectal and endometrial cancer. Women are never told this. I'm a previvor at high genetic risk and since having risk reducing double mastectomies i actually take the combined pill continuously to halve my risk of ovarian, plus regular surveillance. I plan to be on it for 20 years in total.

I wish every woman and doctor knew that menopausal hormone therapy, worst case scenario, has similar risks. And that’s using our old, synthetic, oral hormones, not our isomolecular transdermal estrogen and micronized progesterone.

Goodnight I wanted to know what's wrong with me bcaz I was drinking birth control pills . I had a small accident and hurt my womb bcaz of lefting an heavy object. I had some pain and I went to see a doctor. He then ask me to do and x-ray . Everything was ok. But he then change my birth control pill to injection. So I am using injectoon now for 1 month now. But I want to know why my breast hurts me? Is something wrong?

Hi Liz, great video! My question is:is local estriol low dose for preventing vaginal atrophie safe for hormone positiv BC patients after treatment under Exemestan( Aromasin)?

It is safe for Tamoxifen. Current guidelines don’t recommend for Exemestane because of a tiny increase in risk of recurrence - but the amount absorbed vaginally is tiny. You can really reduce your risk by exercising and not drinking and I think every woman should be able to say to her Dr - there may be a very small risk of recurrence by my quality of life is awful and I am willing to take that risk
