The stock elastomers only provided 1cm of travel for me, it just never felt natural. I felt one 3DRap elastomer (either one) provides a lot more control, I’m satisfied with 3.5cm travel and 70% brake force. Perhaps as my leg strengthens I’ll go back to stock elastomers entirely. But it felt like pressing on a brick wall out of the box.

I'm not a fan of the rock hard load cell setups either, I need a bit of travel to modulate. It also feels more natural to me, so you're not the only one.

It’s all based on what you’re used to. Anything new will feel uncomfortable. However, I’m pretty sure building muscle memory of force vs travel will always get better results.

@@josephbargo5024 Small myth to debunk: Muscle memory is built in both travel and LC setups. The main difference is the portion of leg used, as LC setups usually require more force and therefore more muscle from the leg (also depends on your rig inclination). The difference between travel and LC have little meaning to our brains. With travel, we develop muscle memory as the amount of pressure we need to achieve to get the brake in the right position, whilst in LC we develop muscle memory as the amount of pressure we need to “just brake”. In both cases, muscle memory is built on the basis of applying pressure.

@@gmark007isGianmarcoMaioli i was going off of the consensus in the sim community. However, this was 5 months ago and I think I have a better grasp on the differences. The reason why I think most people feel load is a better way to get accustomed to is RESOLUTION. The perceived difference between 5 percent brake force when that 5 percent is 1 cm vs 10lbs is much different. Having a perceived difference that is very wide (5lbs-100lbs for example) will always be easier to get consistent with.

good to hear as ive ordered the whole kit, brake, throttle, clutch. I was very disanointed in the base throttle, feels num and to easy to full throttle. i find the brake harder to modulate than my old modded G29! i look forward to a bit more travel and being able to trail brake consistently

I got the mixed set and still settled for a custom spring + the progressive version. I do use a rig, but I really don't like the extremely hard brake pedal start. The first centimeter of travel or so should be pretty light, in my opinion, to somewhat resemble an actual (not racecar) car. For the CSL load cell pedal in general, I do like the customizability of the elastomer stack - you can just mod in springs, other rubbers, keep the original rubbers or even put in something harder.

Let me just say that I do honestly believe it is possible to get used to one or the other with enough practice. However, when you're new to the sim racing scene I do feel like it will be MUCH more natural to pick up this hobby with the linear variants. The stock CSL LC from Fanatec feels alien to me. I have 0 idea what amount of force I'm applying since there is no sensory feedback in terms of travel, especially when doing rallying and not circuit racing!

I don't think you can "fix" the CSL Pedals, as for their price they are great pedals and there is nothing to "fix". You can "improve" them of course and the 3D Rap mods are great... but talking about "fixing" sounds like the pedals are bad and need fixing. I know a lot of friends and some of them are very fast drivers who run CSLs without a mod and they go fast... very fast. It is true that the CSLs are very hard at first, but after a few weeks of use they soften. But the title implies that these pedals are defective from the factory and I don't think it's good to scare those who want to buy these pedals, they are excellent for their price... better than the Thrustmaster.
@OnlyInMiami305
@OnlyInMiami305 2 жыл бұрын
I believe the new CSL Load Cell kit is basically a large defective batch and Fanatec is not doing anything about it. The CSL Load Cell kit from before around February had far more travel in the break. You can watch other reviews from 5 months ago and see how much easier it is for them to push the break and farther travel. These literally move about 1-3cm
@Sandstorming99
@Sandstorming99 2 жыл бұрын
i think in this case, fixed is a decent term because the previous version of the same product came with different adjustments for the load cell (I own them both). fanatec basically abandoned this with the new version, even though it could have came in the package or be offered as a first-party add-on. Instead we have to turn to third-parties to fix the issue of no adjustability
@elsobrio
@elsobrio 2 жыл бұрын
@@Sandstorming99 that only means that it is another product, another model, perhaps inferior... but not at all that it is broken and has to be fixed. It is another model, it does not come with the hardness that we would all like, but they are not broken and this mod is to improve them, not to fix them. I insist, for the price they are excellent pedals, I agree that Fanatec should have included different elastomers, it would have been a plus and they would be even better pedals... but that does not mean that they are broken and have to be fixed. The term is "improvement" or a title that says "how to fix hard CSL pedals", but not to fix the pedals... it's like we are buying a product that comes broken and failed. These $200 pedals are far superior to Thrustmaster's Tlcms in the same price range. And this title practically says that you are buying a broken product that needs to be fixed, that scares the simracers and they will end up buying the TLCM which are inferior pedals... and that is not right, it will make people waste their money on worse pedals quality. I remind you that they are low or medium-low range pedals with the load calculation included.
@elsobrio
@elsobrio 2 жыл бұрын
@@OnlyInMiami305 For the price, these pedals are very good... they could have been better, of course they were... that happens with all products. But you don't have to scare people that they are bad, that they come broken or are defective. For 200 usd they are much better than their competition and a good pedals to start with. The 3cm travel is only for the first few weeks, then they take more travel and softness. I recommend you watch a streamer on twitch, his name is Stradi, just like his channel. He used the SRP pedals, but since they were not compatible with Playstation and he wanted to do some streams with the console... he switched to CSL. At first he found them hard but after a week he was delighted with the pedals and it goes just as fast as the SRP. We advised him of the 3DRap mod and he said it was not necessary, he felt very comfortable with the pedals. You can see for yourself on his channel. And he is fast... and he has no plans to go back to the SRP, which are probably one of the best pedals on the market. With this example you cannot say that these pedals are defective... that you do not like them is something else, but I insist, they are excellent pedals for their price and to start with. Could they be better? Of course, it happens with all products, but they are not bad or defective.

Geezes, that's a lot of travel. I have the old school CSL elite pedals and use the 85's and 95's with the brake sensitivity set to 60 on my wheel. No movement, but requires some strength from my leg to get it going. Honestly, I only ever made the change just to see how rigid the brake pedal could be. And to my surprise, I started shaving so much time off my laps that I just stuck with the more rigid brake pedal. I recommend you guys at least try the same and see if it helps you any. If it doesn't, you can always change back. But I'm glad I tested them out. Going back to the 65's almost made the brake pedal feel like a gas pedal by comparison.

I have been playing with the brake force setting too. Started low and found that I was getting the travel I wanted but also locking the brakes took much/easily. Started disling up the brake force and found it stiffer but more precise to subtle variations (trail braking) on the brake pedal.... It takes some time to get used to and build the muscle memory but I have found time by raising the brake force setting on the wheel.... from 10 to now 35... and trying to inch upward..... Besides race cars have very heavy/ hard brakes.... for good reason 🙃

Sorry to say..... but no the rings won't last longer! I bought this set too (complete kit too) and replaced the rings only to have to put the originals back in because the 3drap ones split in just a few days of use..... Love the rubber replacementd though! Definitely made this pedal set much more comfortable to use. Side note: 3DRap was amazing to order from but shopping to states took forever (not their fault).... and they forgot the rings in original order and sent them free of charge (only had to wait for ship time....) Excellent upgrade option for the CSL LCM! 👍👍

I got the T-LCM pedals and I am using the red springs but the pedals travel way too far. I'm used to using a set of FANATEC CSR elite pedals which had a very hard load cell brake pedal which didn't move much. I'm looking for a mod to make the brake pedal hard in my T-LCM
@alpha007org
@alpha007org 2 жыл бұрын
I had 3drap TLCM mod. For me, it was a game changer. I put one elastomer, one red spring and a couple of spacers so that when the pedal was fully released it still read around 10%. I added deadzone at the bottom so that 10% became 0%. Added spacers compressed red spring a little so that everything became harder to press and with less travel. I know it wasn't supposed to be used this way, but in my case, this configuration provided true progressive feel. But TLCM were released years ago and I wouldn't recommend them now. But if you have them, 3drap will make them "the way loadcell should be used."

I bought a 78a super soft skateboard bushing. That sits at the bottom, centre spring with all washers and then a red spring on top. Its far better now with just the travel of one red spring and then into the bushing which is just pressure based. I guess you dropped the required brake force in the fanatec settings already. Alternatively, there are springs, usually for 3d printers, that can soften the brakes considerably. You can google them by typing the pedals name and "spring mod" i believe. The required size is 20x25xsomething mm. I have the yellow ones. When setting the pedals to 40%, the spring maxes out pretty much when full force is registered.

I'm learning to live with it, still haven't broken the the one foot habit yet. I try doing race A with clutch and shifter as much as possible. definitely isn't easy at all but it makes for an extremely immersing experience. it's just the gas pedal being so soft that's really bothering me. if anyone knows what size shock tower they're using for the mods or a video related to something that will stiffen up the sprung pedals please leave a reply.
