I love that, at the start, Nathan gets really hyped and Curtis just sits there and stares into my soul.

The 85 percent rule is an interesting one. As a former distance runner, I think this is more about how to reach the flow state, or runners high, than it is about effort. When you run a long distance race, you don't want to burn out from starting too fast. You'll hit a wall towards the end of the race, slow down, lose confidence, and just suffer to the end. The ideal race is one where you start out at the right pace or a tiny bit slower, and then gradually speed it up until you finally hit the finishing stretch at 100%. In league, I don't think there's a 1 to 1 parallel since this 85% rule is based on actual fatigue, which doesn't happen in League. Instead the way I interpret this is that in order to hit the flow state, you need to give an honest but not all out effort. Too much effort will burn you out before you hit flow state. But once you hit the flow state, just keep that state as long as you can. In league, this may translate to a few weeks where you can consistently get the flow state in every game.

When are we getting the Charlie guest episode? Feel like we could learn more about the broken concept from someone who lives with them but isn’t them.

Not sure if curtis will see this, but razer has released light weight versions of the deathadder and even a wireless version, the deathadder v2, v3 and deathadder pro. I was in to fps games like valorant and csgo before i got into league and having a good mouse is very important in those games, and i think if nathan and curtis invested in some lighter weight mice they would be suprised on the difference it would make in their gameplay! ps love the podcasts.

Charlie please put the audio on the same side as we see them. It's really uncomfortable hearing Nathan on the left and Curtis on the right. Great episode, good stuff as always! Thanks!

Funniest moment of the podcast - Nathan checking in with Charlie that 5,000 is indeed 10% of 50,000! 50:38

The 85% rule, or some variation of it, exists in golf too. A quite common advice is "slow down your swing to 90%". I guess what happens is you don't necessarily slow down that much but you use your muscles differently... it works somehow.

In regards to mice, I recently upgraded to a glass mousepad and I upgraded the mouse feet on my razer viper ultimate, and I can say it's incredible how much of a difference it feels like it has made in my micro control

It happened to me a lot too that my smurf would become my main during the season, but i always attributed that to my mental, when i'm playing on my smurf i'm trying, but i don't really care about losses or my teammates dcing, raging etc, doesn't matter. I think this is why at the end my smurf gets a better rank, it's exactly what Curtis said at the beginning, playing without expectations, imo.

I think the 85 percent rule isn't that you are giving only 85 % effort... its not like you aren't giving it your all... its that the BEST you can do isn't at the 100% effort. Like 100 % ganking too much early game could be a bad call even though it looks good. You are gonna fall behind if you aren't taking camps or CS. I play jungle and mid and feel it both times when I roam too much trying to 100% it. Another 100% that doesn't work is trying to gank and take care of EVERY lane. Sometimes the most optimal decision is leaving half the map alone. Not completely alone. But not 100% even aas the strong focused lane. I appreciate your personalities meshing through the explanations! I love that you disagree respectfully... its such a healthy example for people to see. Love it!

I’m a purchaser and worked with pc peripherals for years. Mouse is the most important thing, that actually matters. For lol keyboard wise you need something that has fast as possible actuation. As an enthusiast I find it really annoying to see people with clicky switches play lol because clicky switches most of the time are slow and scrappy for gaming. For mice I would ditch anything that’s over 75 grams. For death adder big mouse users there are options like the pulsar xlite and for small mouse users viper mini etc. There are a lot of great mice out there right now, and it really can effect your gameplay. But performance comes from the mouse+mousepad combination. You wont have the same experience with mice as someone who uses a different mousepad. It effects your micro. In kovaak’s aim trainer, the top of the ladder players are using different gear for each scenario when going for high scores. Some things are better for tracking and some things are better for precision. I think lol is a precision heavy game, and that’s why I recommend lighter mice with a control pad. For keyboard we have the wootings as the best of the best for gaming but if you are not interested in them, you can go with ss apex pro or razer huntsman with some optical switches to juice as much as you can out of your gameplay. A good thumb of rule when buying peripherals is to look into what the enthusiasts are buying, especially if you’re trying to find something budget. Worst thing you can do is to go to a store and buy one randomly that looks good to you. My setup for lol has been artisan zero, btl gretxa, chinese keyboard modded with yellow opticals.

i had to realize that coach curtis is just rediculously wrong about how to climb. sure he plays easy midlane compared to toplane which is probably why. all his tips are completely wrong. it has nothing to do with fundamentals you just have to memorize how every single matchup is played and just accept that you lose lane when counterpicked. climbing is just about losing less hard than other people when counterpicked.
