One argument against offset tweeters (which goes along with your recommendation that they are best for single-listener setups) is this: There will be an optimal path length distance relationship for the tweeter and mid-woofer, and the relative path lengths from each of them to the listener CHANGE with the horizontal angle if the tweeter is offset relative to the midwoofer.

Interesting topic! I enjoy your technical and planing videos the most, so I would like to see more of these more advanced speaker building discussions, if the video does well! :) An aspect of offset tweeters is that you can slightly change the response by changing the left and right speaker's position. This is theoretical though, I haven't heard speakers with offset drivers, yet

Thanks for the video! Would enjoy to hear from you about the distance between the tweeter and the woofer 😊

I think if you minimize the width of the baffle put your tweeter as close as you can to the mid-range and then you got your time arrival you got to look into that too I like to countersink the tweeter to try to align the voice coils as close as I can
@michaelsegel87583 ай бұрын
And when you have a larger mid/woofer you can cut or shape the edges of the baffle. It would be interesting if TOIDs talked about that.

Hi Todd what would be good plastic ammo box/ dry storage marine box that fit 6.5 speaker that’s 7.4”Dx7.6”Wx7.1”H?

I dont offset tweeters at all. You can mount drivers with an offset from the centerline (useful on its own), but this only changes the distribution in the time and frequency domains; it doesn't actually reduce the amount of energy re-radiated by the tweeter.

Wharfedale Lintons have offset tweeters and they sound and image beautifully.
@Toid3 ай бұрын
@@cl65captain those are really interesting speakers. They are offset, but it does not appear by enough to make a major difference on diffraction. I would guess they would measure very similarly to a centered tweeter than an offset.

Is there a general rule about offset tweeters? Should the tweeter always be toward the outside vs inside?
@Toid3 ай бұрын
@@bigbenms6 they should be mirror image of each other. You can have them oriented either way that best fits your listening environment
@bigbenms63 ай бұрын
@@Toid I understand that but for instance in the picture of the red overnight Sensations the tweeters are spaced as wide apart as possible I didn't know if that matter or not or should they be placed as close together as possible
@Toid3 ай бұрын
@@bigbenms6 if they’re mirror image you can either place the tweeters inside close to each other or outside further away. It really depends on your listening environment on what makes most sense. With the tweeters outside if you’re sitting in the center, you’re going to be further off axis of both tweeters.

You just need swap the speakers to make it inside or outside! Choose the one that sounds best to you.

I expected the theory about wave nature, lower frequency waves tend to refract more easily than high frequency (tweeters) thus they end up quite directional. That's why there are horns for tweeters. Also who cares about tweeters anyway, our hearing is quite limited above 14 kHz and it is much easier to sell high power sub than tweeter ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
