My D3 was at 4 in March of last year. My doctor has me on 50,000 a week and it's taken over a year to get to 47. I've have hair loss/ thinning for quite some time and I'm sure I've probably had a deficiency for years. I'm amazed that primary care providers don't know about this. Mine keeps telling me to use biotin and minoxidil. Those have NEVER worked for me. I'm so glad I've found your channel.

I started using it after 6 years of hair loss around my hairline. My hair stopped falling out in clumps in the shower in days and within 2 weeks my bald areas are full of baby hairs. I haven't felt confident about styling my hair for years. Now I can pull the sides back and pin them. Take a liquid D3 gel cap.

@jnarula71 not yet. As this doctor has suggested, I'm trying to boost my D3 to 60 nmol/L, and I ordered Ferritin and Zinc to take in conjunction with the D3. I also resumed taking a Biotin supplement to strengthen my hair. I'll have to check back in sometime in December to give an update.

It can take months to raise vitamin D levels but I also had shedding from severe stress!

I can vouch for the possibility that a deficiency in vitamin D can contribute to hair loss. I started losing hair when I was 23 during my time at university when I had so many assignments that I began staying up all night and sleeping all day almost never leaving the house except once a week. It got worse the more I studied at night over the years... I also have other symptoms associated with a deficiency in vitamin d... I have seen a medical journal about a patient with severe mpb and after a year of vitamin d supplements his hair grew back.

Thank you for sharing such informative videos, Doctor. My Vitamin D (25OH) level is 9.59ng/ml and my Ferritin level is 38.61ng/ml. Previously, my doctor had only recommended I take 50.000IU of Vid D weekly for a month. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have.
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊 With your Vitamin D level at 9.59 ng/mL, that’s definitely on the low side, and low Vitamin D can indeed contribute to hair thinning. Your doctor’s recommendation of 50,000 IU of Vitamin D3 weekly is a good approach to help raise your levels, but here are a few additional tips to support your hair health: 1. **Follow Up with Maintenance** 🌞: After the high-dose regimen, it’s often helpful to switch to a daily or lower weekly dose (e.g., 2,000-4,000 IU) to maintain levels long-term, but always check with your doctor for the right dose. 2. **Pair with Magnesium** 💊: Magnesium can help with Vitamin D absorption. Including magnesium-rich foods (like nuts, seeds, and leafy greens) or a magnesium supplement can support better Vitamin D levels. 3. **Boost Ferritin** 🥩: Your ferritin level of 38.61 ng/mL is decent but slightly on the lower end for optimal hair growth. Aim for around 70-100 ng/mL if possible. Iron-rich foods (like lean meats, beans, and spinach) or an iron supplement might help, but consult your doctor before adding iron to avoid overload. Getting these levels up should help support your hair and overall health! 🌱 ➡️ For more guidance, feel free to reach out to us at [www.advancedtrichology.com/](www.advancedtrichology.com/)!

Yes her level of D3 is too low. Give D3, magnesium, K2 and zinc. Get the 10,000 units of D3 from Solgar and give her couple of those a day but must take the Magnesium, K2, and Zinc as well. Make her eat eggs 🍳 daily it has lot of nutrients for hair.

Not especially If you are deficient in any vitamins and minerals you can have hair problems. However hair loss is common with low vitamin D3, iron (ferritin and haemoglobin), B vitamin ( folate and B12) and zinc levels. Make sure all these levels are in the middle of the range. Also check your thyroid hormone levels and if you are a woman be aware that contraceptives/HRT can cause hair loss issues.

I have suffered from telogen effluvium on and off for 7 years since having my daughter For the last 3 years it’s happened once a year and I can’t understand why I had a blood test and my vitamin d level is 33, could this be a reason? I am just hoping it will resolve as it’s affecting my mental health so much My iron was on the lower side but not enough for my doctor to prescribe me anything so I am taking iron off my own accord Is there anything you can suggest? I am using rosemary oil also Thank you
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologistАй бұрын
Hey @LeahFinlay-p6u! I’m so sorry to hear about your struggle with telogen effluvium-it can be so emotionally draining. 💔 Let’s look at what might be going on and how you can address it: --- ### **1. Vitamin D and Telogen Effluvium** A **vitamin D level of 33** is on the lower side of normal (depending on your lab’s range), and research shows vitamin D is essential for follicle health and hair regrowth. Low levels could definitely contribute to your recurring telogen effluvium. - **What to Do**: Aim for a level closer to **50-70 ng/mL** for optimal hair health. Talk to your doctor about supplementing-most people benefit from **2,000-4,000 IU daily** of vitamin D3, but get guidance based on your needs. --- ### **2. Iron Levels** Even if your doctor didn’t prescribe iron, **low-normal iron or ferritin (iron stores)** can still cause hair shedding. For hair regrowth, ferritin levels above **50 ng/mL** are often ideal. - **What to Do**: Keep taking your iron supplement (with vitamin C for better absorption), but monitor your levels to avoid over-supplementing. --- ### **3. Possible Annual Triggers** Telogen effluvium often recurs because of a **trigger**, such as: - **Stress** (physical or emotional) - **Hormonal fluctuations** - **Seasonal shedding** (some people experience cyclical shedding yearly) It might help to track patterns in your lifestyle or health to identify what could be causing these annual episodes. --- ### **4. Rosemary Oil** You’re on the right track using rosemary oil! It improves scalp circulation and promotes growth. Make sure you’re using it consistently (diluted in a carrier oil) and massaging it in for at least 5-10 minutes. --- ### **5. What Else You Can Try** - **Check Thyroid Function**: Request a thyroid panel (TSH, T3, T4) as thyroid imbalances are a common cause of telogen effluvium. - **Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)**: Devices like laser caps can help stimulate follicles and support regrowth. - **Gentle Hair Care**: Avoid tight hairstyles, excessive heat, or harsh products that might worsen shedding. --- ### **Mental Health Support** Hair loss can really take a toll mentally-please know it’s okay to seek support or even counseling to help manage the emotional impact. You’re doing an amazing job already by addressing the issue and staying proactive. 💛 ➡️ If you need more help, reach out at www.advancedtrichology.com/ for additional support and treatment options. You’ve got this! 🙌

Dr. my vitamin D3 is 22.31 ng/ml...every day how much IU should I take and for how many months??
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist25 күн бұрын
Hey there! 😊 With your vitamin D3 level at **22.31 ng/ml**, you're in the "insufficient" range, so increasing your intake is a great idea to bring those levels up. Here's what you can do: 🌞 **Daily Dosage:** Most guidelines recommend taking **1,500-2,000 IU daily** for people with levels below 30 ng/ml. This amount should help you gradually restore healthy levels. ⏳ **Duration:** It typically takes about **3-4 months** of consistent supplementation to see significant improvement. After that, you should get your levels rechecked to adjust your dose if needed. ⚠️ **Important Note:** Avoid exceeding **4,000 IU daily** unless directed by a doctor, as too much vitamin D can lead to toxicity. Stick with it, and don't forget to pair it with a balanced diet and some sunlight exposure if possible! 🌱➡️ Reach out to us at www.advancedtrichology.com/ for more personalized advice!

@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist6 ай бұрын
Thinning hair and loss of body hair, such as on your legs, can indeed indicate underlying health issues that go beyond vitamin D3 deficiency. Here are some potential factors and conditions to consider: Hormonal Imbalances: Thyroid Issues: Hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism can cause hair thinning. Androgenic Alopecia: Often related to DHT (dihydrotestosterone) levels, leading to male or female pattern baldness. Nutritional Deficiencies: Iron Deficiency: Commonly associated with hair loss. Other Vitamins and Minerals: Low levels of zinc, biotin, and other essential nutrients can affect hair health. Autoimmune Conditions: Alopecia Areata: An autoimmune disorder causing patchy hair loss on the scalp and body. Lupus: Can lead to hair loss and other systemic symptoms. Dietary Factors: Keto Diet: While beneficial for some, a ketogenic diet might lead to deficiencies in certain vitamins and minerals if not well-balanced. Rapid weight loss can also trigger telogen effluvium, a temporary form of hair loss. Stress: Physical and Emotional Stress: Both can lead to hair shedding and thinning. Medications and Medical Treatments: Certain medications can cause hair loss as a side effect. Genetics: Family history of hair loss can play a significant role. Given the complexity of hair loss, it's crucial to get a comprehensive evaluation from a healthcare provider or a trichologist. They can conduct specific tests, such as blood work to check hormone levels, nutrient deficiencies, and autoimmune markers, to pinpoint the exact cause of your hair loss. ➡️Reach out to us at www.advancedtrichology.com/

so at the pharmacy you request vitamin D or u say vitamin D3
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologistАй бұрын
When you’re at the pharmacy, it’s best to specifically request **Vitamin D3** if that’s what you’re looking for. Here’s why: --- ### **1. Vitamin D vs. Vitamin D3** - **Vitamin D** is a general term for two forms: - **Vitamin D2 (Ergocalciferol)**: Found in some plants and fortified foods. - **Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol)**: The form naturally produced by your skin when exposed to sunlight and more effective at raising blood Vitamin D levels. - **Vitamin D3** is often preferred for supplementation because: - It’s better absorbed and retained by the body. - It raises and maintains **serum Vitamin D levels** more effectively. --- ### **2. What to Say at the Pharmacy** - Ask specifically for **Vitamin D3**, so the pharmacist knows you’re requesting the most bioavailable form. - Example: - “Can I get a Vitamin D3 supplement, please?” --- ### **3. Dosage Tips** - Dosages can vary depending on your needs: - **Maintenance Dose**: 1,000-2,000 IU daily. - **Deficiency Treatment**: 5,000-10,000 IU daily (consult a doctor for higher doses). - Some supplements also include **calcium** for bone health or **Vitamin K2**, which helps direct calcium to bones instead of arteries. --- ### **Final Note** Be clear that you’re looking for **Vitamin D3** to ensure you get the best option. If you’re unsure about dosage or have specific health conditions, consult with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice. ➡️ Let me know if you need more guidance on choosing the right supplement! 😊✨

Same issue 😢 u started supplements?
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist4 ай бұрын
Yes, low vitamin D3 levels can definitely contribute to hair loss, and in your case, a level of 10 ng/mL is considered quite low. 😟 **Here’s how it works:** 1. **Vitamin D and Hair Growth**: Vitamin D plays a crucial role in hair follicle cycling. When levels are low, it can disrupt the normal hair growth cycle, potentially leading to conditions like telogen effluvium, where more hairs shift into the shedding phase. 2. **Impact on Telogen Effluvium**: Telogen effluvium (TE) is often triggered by stressors like nutritional deficiencies, and low vitamin D can make it worse by preventing hair from transitioning back to the growth phase. This might explain why your hair falls out early, even when it’s still small. **What You Can Do**: - **Boost Your Vitamin D**: You’ll likely need a supplement to bring your levels up. Most people need at least 800-2000 IU daily, but with your low levels, a higher dose prescribed by your doctor might be necessary. - **Sun Exposure**: Try to get moderate sunlight exposure (about 15-30 minutes a few times a week), as this can naturally increase your vitamin D. - **Dietary Sources**: Include foods rich in vitamin D, like fatty fish (salmon, mackerel), fortified dairy products, and eggs. Improving your vitamin D levels should help stabilize your hair growth cycle, but it might take a few months to see significant changes. Hang in there! 🌞 ➡️Reach out to us at www.advancedtrichology.com/

I recently done my blood test ...found my vitamin d as 8.8 ng/ml....which supplement should i take
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist25 күн бұрын
A **Vitamin D level of 8.8 ng/mL** is very low and indicates a significant deficiency. It’s essential to correct this as Vitamin D plays a vital role in overall health, including **hair growth**, bone strength, immune function, and mood regulation. --- ### **1. Choosing the Right Supplement** - **Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol)**: - Vitamin D3 is the most effective form for raising levels and maintaining them long-term. - Look for a high-quality supplement, ideally paired with **Vitamin K2** to help direct calcium to your bones and prevent buildup in arteries. - Common brands like **Thorne**, **Nordic Naturals**, or **Nature Made** are reliable. --- ### **2. Recommended Dosage for Deficiency** - **Initial High Dose**: - Doctors typically recommend **50,000 IU of Vitamin D3 weekly** for 6-8 weeks for severe deficiency. - Alternatively, **5,000-10,000 IU daily** for the same period can work. - **Maintenance Dose**: - Once your levels normalize (above 30 ng/mL), switch to a **1,000-2,000 IU daily** dose to maintain healthy levels. --- ### **3. Timing and Absorption** - **With Food**: - Take Vitamin D with a meal containing healthy fats (e.g., avocado, nuts, or olive oil) to maximize absorption. - **Morning or Midday**: - Taking it earlier in the day may help avoid disrupting sleep, as Vitamin D can sometimes energize the body. --- ### **4. Monitor Progress** - Retest your Vitamin D levels after **8-12 weeks** of supplementation to ensure they're improving. Aim for a target level between **30-50 ng/mL**. --- ### **5. Complementary Tips** - **Sunlight Exposure**: - Spend 15-20 minutes in direct sunlight daily, exposing your arms and face to boost natural Vitamin D production. - **Combine with Magnesium**: - Magnesium helps activate Vitamin D in the body. Ensure your diet includes foods like nuts, seeds, and leafy greens, or consider a **magnesium supplement** (200-400 mg/day). --- ### **Important Note** Always consult with your doctor before starting high-dose Vitamin D supplementation, as excessive Vitamin D (hypervitaminosis D) can cause toxicity. Regular blood tests are key to monitoring progress. --- ### **Key Takeaway** Start with a **Vitamin D3 supplement** of **5,000-10,000 IU daily** (or 50,000 IU weekly) as prescribed by your doctor, combined with a balanced diet and some sunlight exposure. This will help correct your deficiency and support your overall health and hair regrowth. ➡️ For further guidance on improving your hair health alongside your Vitamin D supplementation, visit [www.advancedtrichology.com](www.advancedtrichology.com). 🌟
