So excited to bring more exclusive content to the AMMO Studio Channel soon! In the meantime, here are some of my favorite videos and deep dives from the past. Thanks for your continued support :)
If you follow AMMO you know I love asking questions and doing deep dives on the finer aspects of detailing. We often hear about Hard and Soft Paint Finishes but how does that relate to your methods during paint correction? What adjustments can you make for a better overall finish. I break it down with some tests on my own Audi R8 to get some answers. Hope this video is helpful and visit ammonyc.com/ for videos, detailing products, trainings, blogs, exclusives, and more...

thx larry. people overthink it and make all kinds of decisions before they even get to the car. I think really the straightforward approach is: clean it and do a test. that's it. no matter how you label or categorize, you gotta do those two things and make your adjustments. that's it. hard, soft, who cares? you still gotta clean it, test it, make your adjustments.

Thanks Larry. This IS what you get paid the big bucks for! I took your advice and checked what/how Mike Phillips explained how to determine the difference and the significance of hard versus soft paint. Thanks

I match car paint here at my job.I see a lot of cars that have been repainted. Something repainted is definitely going to be different than factory clear. Easier to burn through repainted panels for sure It's a skill that will come in handy for me because I'll be able to tell if I should be more careful on that panel or not. Sometimes it's hard to tell if you don't know what to look for. Clear coat from the factory looks way different than something that has been repainted. Painters will use less clear coat on the car in order to save time and money. In that case you'd definitely have to know if it's been repainted cause you'll burn through the clear really fast! Especially when they use cheap clear coat and barely spray any on the panel itself, just enough to cover.

Also if a vehicles been repaired and repainted or partially repainted - the level of correction will vary between panels

Larry working with my limited DIYer experience, I try and tell people that want a paint correction let’s try and leave some orange peel the paint because I really truly believe the orange peel hides defects on modern cars either scratches or blemishes in the steel waviness from the stampings, because I get a customer that wants the paint to be flawless and flat I sort of disagree with that I feel if you get somewhere with an 80% margin of paint you’re doing quite well. No I’ve only done a handful of cars using a couple different products such as Sonax perfect finish and some of the chemical guys products and one thing I’ll notice especially on Subarus since I’ve done my 2013 Subaru Legacy with the ice silver metallic you can get the same car same year and the car will completely reactively either from Subaru switching to different clearcoat manufacturers and there’s so many different variables it still makes my mind boggle.

That's correct, Why trying to decipher if the paint has a soft or hard coat instead of concentrating in the basics? Use the least aggressive method first to check how it is reacting in order to adjust properly and know the 2 types of paint Single and Clear Coated. Then knowing how to remove a Ceramic coating.

exactly how i took in the knowledge of this video. just like interior cleaning same concept, use a stronger chemical on a more stubborn stains, or use steam or use a stiff bristle brush, or as simple as agitating with a detail brush

How can you tell if you got single stage or clear coat on your car?
@ElementalGarageandGaming
@ElementalGarageandGaming 2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes you can just tell by looking at it. Age of the vehicle, unless re-srpayed, can tell you. But ultimately the easiest way it to take a white cloth, and a little polishing product, and test in an inconspicuous area. If the white cloth turns the color of the paint it's single-stage. If it's still white, it's clear.

I think you're using the word "process" for a detailing shop, but remember, here in youtube you have a much bigger audience. You have people that do not work as a professional detailer or worse, that they don't have experience in detailing nor work in a company that implements standards that conform to a specific process. Again, process is a word used in standardized procedures. Either from an international body of knowledge organization or a much simpler set of steps implemented in a specific company. I, for one, would need more knowledge before I damage my car, if I do that myself or want to learn how to do it.
