Seriously was saying out loud "Come on say 4x4 come on say 4x4" then he said can swap out the output shaft to get the stock tcase on!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! Thank you John and thank you frostbite for sharing this!! Now my 2012 has hope!

@@FrostbiteRam right now sitting in the backyard with bad lifters. Waiting for a few more packages from Jay greene, then eventually some good internals since the truck is almost paid off in the next 5 months. Then this trans swap by next spring for sure!

Iv been watching his channel waiting on more updates to the kit so I love that you put this out there! I hope you do the swap I would love to see you able to launch frostbite that hard on the strip with 100 shot to!

Nice! This is what a lot of 4th gen Cummins guys do - swap the 68rfe to a47/48re. Downside is, no matter what you get; built 68rfe, 48re swap, Allison swap... it's all between $10K-$14K!

Great video and good on you Mr. Cope for trying to help out us poor 545rfe folk. I went the ATS route, 2 years ago I don't know if this existed but I didn't see it. ATS with Co-Pilot and Edge converter are holding up to my Procharged 09 4x4 so far.

@@kenc.2448 Truck has the motor out right now, putting in a 392 stroker with forged internals and cranking the boost up. That will be the true test haha. I don't think you can "tune" it per se with the Co-Pilot, I'm not brave enough to try.

@@leonw7819 reason I ask is I just threw a procharger on mine. Started to get 4th gear and OD error. Before I jump into the ATS was wondering if it was worth it and anything I should know about.

@@kenc.2448 before I pulled the motor it was getting a bit of a shudder when giving it above average but not enough to force a downshift. I sent the torque converter out to get checked, Edge said it was fine. I'd go with the ATS TC if you go that route. You absolutely need the Co-Pilot or it won't last much longer than any other 545. If I had seen this kit and knew I was going to be pushing (hopefully more than) 700 ponies through the trans I would have went with the 46rh. The ATS is working and if you want to keep it "stock" then go that route but I believe the 46 will actually stand up better.

Yeah my goal is to push my 545 to the absolute limits, ran that 12.2 with it n/a, now pushing for that 11 second n/a pass. Glad to see some options out there when I want to switch it up.

Lots of 545s that has went 11s mine has and is still going but this may be the way I go later on. I would rather have a setup like this over a 8speed any day.

one of the 392s I built is in a 04 1500 , been as low as 10.90s with a 545RFE, but didn't last long, it's running a 46RH now.

How common is this failure with just regular driving? I have a '13 with the 6 speed, does it suffer the same failures as the 5? Love the channel man!

Both transmissions is the same and if they taken care of and not beat on they are actually very good units.

I'm building a high compression stroker 397 with eagle heads, inertia cam, long tube headers, and magnum intake. I plan on making 500+hp and similar torque. Is there any way to make my 545rfe live with at that power level? This is in an '07 ram 1500 4x4 with 35x12.50 tires.

Had my 545RFE rebuilt 3 times. After adding deciding to add a cam to the supercharger, it was enough is enough. Can’t say enough for Mike (my builder), but this transmission is definitely not capable of adding any serious horsepower to it.

Mine has done me very well not complaining 147k and lots of nitrous but I know the time will come.

I believe it would not much difference in the 5 and 6speed but john could answer that I'm sure.

It's a manual valve body pcm would be flashed for manual transmission more or less. This is a setup for a individual who needs a transmission that can hold power. Not necessarily a every day driver but will be more than capable of doing so.

Go look at ATS Deisel. They build some very stout RFE's.

@@FrostbiteRam did he ever explain why the 545 can't be built?? I get that once u add crazy numbers to our trans they fail but seem pretty good till then....seems crazy we can jus add different gears etc and make our 545's greater.....sux ......

@@bmanclassics4350 If the 545rfe is anything like the 68rfe found in the diesel trucks, there are many hard parts that fail when adding power. (VB accumulator plate/pistons, sprag, OD clutch pack, input shaft) A stock 68rfe, even with great trans tuning, will only hold around 450whp/1000ft-lb torque - and you typically will get at least 500whp from a stock truck with tuning alone. I can't imagine the 545rfe holding much, if any, past that. That being said, even a fully built 68rfe (about $12k) is only going to hold 850ish whp and do it for a limited time before needing a rebuild. Those wanting more do a 47/48re swap, which reliably holds into the 2000whp range. So it appears to be a some kind of mechanical limitation inherent to the design of these transmissions that just can't be overcome with stronger parts or better tuning. Swapping to an older, less-complex design that can be built to stronger standards is really the only option once you get to a certain point.

@@JoshHookerJoshhook123 not required as this swap in a full manual valve body. You have to shift each gear manually but there is no clutch check out some of my other videos on how it works.

Not much options unfortunately. If you want a bullet proof trans then you need the swap i just did. But cheapest best option is a bone stock factory transmission.
