Since I've done my own DIY motion rig I'll never never come back to a static-mode flight sim. The VR+motion combo is the biggest jump I've done in videogames and simulators. Thousands of times more than the jump we saw from the 8 bits 2D games to 3D games in the 90's

I'm still definitely interested in this. My job changed last week as the the NHS funded company I work for lost the contract to deliver the service we've been delivering for the past 15 years so we've been transferred to another company so I don't want to make any big financial decisions until this has all settled but I think this year I'll resist the urge to buy any more headsets or PC tech so I can save up and probably get the H3. I feel like yaw will be worthwhile for rudder pedal control. I love that plate you have that allows the yoke and throttle quadrant to be in front of you, and having a joystick mount as well on the side.

There's a bit more faf with the H6, but it's a night and day improvement over not having motion. I do spend some time in SRS tuning profiles, particularly with high power aircraft; I'm still very much a beginner! Flying the Spitfire out of Duxford with a windy and turbulent day was throwing me all over the place! Not having issues with motion compensation personally.

I've been using my H6 for over a week now, I'm using one of Jeff Weaver's SRS profiles (for subscribers) for MSFS, pretty good all round. I'm surprised that I'm not really having any motion compensation issues, and I like to throw the Bush planes about a bit in turbulence and force the odd stall. It has its quirks, and I've had to press the emergency stop button a few times when I inadvertently got into stormy weather, but on the whole I have to agree, it's a game changer for flight sim.

Awesome video as always. I think a lot of the stuttering you are feeling is from the lower resolution encoders on the rig. I know DOF is working on Digital versions, but they are probably still too low of resolution to take out what you are feeling. Give it time, DOF is ALWAYS improving the product. Also, did you get your WinMotion box yet for Motion Comp or are you trying something else?

Thanks buddy! :) I think considering the price it's to be expected. I have been fiddling around with the software since this video and I've got a much better setting for GA type flying now. Thank you so much for your content! Looking at getting the H2 because of your videos! Lol! Really waiting for the motion compensation tutorial! So far I have only found content that needs SteamVR to work. It would be great if SimRacing supported the WIT with OpenXR! The simplest solution is definitely plugging a device to the motion rig and then pushing a button on SimRacing! Hehehe! I have also been seeing that less is more for VR, so another solution for the H2, would be to simply reduce the range of movement.

I'm glad you mentioned the "mechanical" feeling at slow speeds, because I was noticing the same thing and wasn't sure if it was normal or not. When I first assembled it I had the motors on the wrong side and they slammed the seat back when I first turned it on and they started getting warm, so I was worried that I'd broken something. After fixing the problem It's been working great though. I turned on a little bit of engine haptics so the rig rumbles slightly when the engines are on, which smooths out the slow speed bumpiness a bit I think, or at least makes those bumps blend into the rumble of the engine anyway.

Could you possibly try helicopters, like in DCS, and show what that looks like for yaw? And if that will take a while, even describing what it's like here? DOF Reality said their sale will last for another week so trying to figure it out! Cheers. EDIT: How was the balancing for you? The instructions make it sound like you need a small crew to adjust it and lift it without motors to nail the balance point! Curious what it's like as you load up the equipment on the front e.g. the yoke.

Motion compensation is an easy fix if you’re using base stations. So ideal with your pimax set up. A dedicated tracker or hand controller configured to tracker is mounted to the rig. It automatically compensates the motion with a steam plug-in.

Thanks for a great channel! You have actually helped me to come to the conclusion that I need an H2. Though I struggle a bit on what add-ons I need. Especially when it comes to the monitor mount. I use the monitor in some cases when I fly, say about 30-40% of the time. The rest is VR. Now I'm trying to decide if it's actually worth buying both the SFU upgrade and the wheels to get the monitor mount (since that's what's required)? Or, is it just as good to keep the screen on a static standard mount?
@BrodyHiggerson
@BrodyHiggerson Жыл бұрын
I looked into this. Go for the SFU gearboxes from what everyone's said with before/afters. The wheels you don't need for the monitor mount - I spoke to DOF Reality about that as it's confusing. They're just referring to a different design for the frame where a steering wheel would go. All new orders have this new "wide wheel base" in the design, no extras required.

@@Cpen5311When you first setup your H2 or H3 you want to try and BALANCE it to some degree. There is a pivot point on the chair and you want the front, rear, and each side to be fairly close in weight. Don't throw everything on the front and expect your rig not to groan under the strain. There is a lot of benefit to balancing your rig correctly. Your motors last longer, your rig will respond quicker, and there is less strain on the rig overall. I have had my H3 with the SFU gearboxes for over a year. I have played as long as 6 hours in it non-stop and my motors never got above 25 degrees C. This is what correct balancing can achieve.

Your comments reflect many others on electro-mechanical rigs the judder and stiction they create. You have to pay much more to remove it and it is also why the pro rigs are electro-hydraulic. As you correctly pointed out you won't do much better at the budget end of the motion rig scale.

I'm scratching my head regarding the direction of roll that the rig interprets. Firstly, a balanced turn is a 1g manoeuvre, therefore you don't feel any roll. If you throw a wing over quickly, your body is pushed in the other direction to the turn (think of pulling your car wheel hard one way which throws you in the other direction), so I'm not getting why this rig rolls left when you do a left turn ...also, a hard pull back on the yoke should force your head down and be simulated by a pitch forwards, followed by a gentle recline once inertia has changed. I don't see the compensation for inertia of the body, centrifugal force or gravity. It looks backwards to me. It is a complex set of subtle motions to simulate correct movements. Maybe I'm assuming too much from the software.

Thanks for the informative video! Your thoughts on the H2 vs H3 or H6 for flight simulation? Need to add haptic chair pad? Thinking of upgrading my flight sim set up with DOF H2 or H3 motion simulator, and Next Level Racing HF8 chair pad. Appreciate your thoughts; keep up the great work ;) (PPL training in process)

Hi Cali, firstly congratulations on embarking on your dream of becoming a real world pilot, that must be such a great feeling. I can't really say for sure since I have not tried a H3 or H6, I did however try a 3DOF motion rig when I went to see Varjo (with added heave), but to be honest I don't feel like I'm missing that extra movement. I'd love to try a 6DOF rig someday though! In regards to the haptic seat, I use the SRS one with 6 powerful transducers. I'll have a video out soon trying both the motion rig AND haptic seat (so far I've had little time to experiment with both), so stay tuned for that video coming soon. Take care.

The H2 I think is quite hands-on - a tinkerer's dream! I went with the Simrig SR2 and it's really plug and play, and has added so very much to the experience! I wouldn't say it adds much that's useful for flying sims; I'd say it does if set up correctly for racing sims.

I bought this platform mainly on your review. I paid $400 extra for the SFU upgrade. The movement in the C172 in plane is very juddery. The people at DOF reality are "studying" the problem but have no solution. I didn't pay $2,000+ to be their R&D tester. Please be more thorough in you reviews. If you've found a solution the achieves smooth motion in standard turns, please tell us.

If your young and can afford it, definitely get a real pilot's licence! A sim will always be there for you! Still love to fly but can't pass the physical anymore sadly:( As a previous owner of both relatively cheap, (Beechcraft Musketeer) and expensive (Cessna 172) Ownership is great "for awhile" but if you don't have a lot of extra cash the throw around, (and retirement is well established) like you said join a club/rent etc would be best advice. My wife at the time knew exactly my plan for the day was when I said, "Honey, going out for a $500.00 hamburger, want to come?". (She became annoyed when it turned into a $1000+ hamburger run, LOL!
