Pt 1) This is training her to perform an alternate appropriate behavior that is incompatible with attacking the other dog but that she enjoys. goal is that owners do this every time she sees a new dog until it becomes a habit. It's important to use rewards for the good behavior so that she's learning that good things happen around the other dog. That way she's learning good things about the other dog. e.g. I see dog and good thing happen to me (my owners play with me and give treats).

Pt 2) Because she's learning good things happen to her around the other dog and she's learning more appropriate behaviors to perform (and enjoying them so she wants to perform them), then, if owners do this consistently (with every dog she sees), she will learn to be relaxed around unfamiliar dogs. e.g. over time they will need to do less and less until they realize they don't even need to get her attention because she just remains relaxed and isn't particularly interested in the other dog.

This is exactly what I practiced with my dog. The "look at me" command works wonders. It's a great method to teach your dogs better manners AND create an awesome relationship with them.

Depends how consistent the owners are. These owners actually said in this movie that they don't even have treats all the time. Basically at first, on walks, they need to do these focus exercises whenever a dog appears and they need to do it before their dog reacts. Goal is that the dog only has good experiences when the other dogs appear. After they do this with enough dogs then treats should not be needed.

Would the dog eventually not require treats? It doesn't look like a regular walk dishing out treats every 30 seconds. Also would the problem dog have to be desensitized around every individual dog? It looks to be ok with dogs it has been conditioned with but what about strange dogs?

While it's encouraging to see the progress the dog had made, i actually didn't feel very comfortable with the classical cc part where the dog is placed so near to the decoy dog with both dogs showing signs of stress and clearly uncomfortable with the situation. In the later part of the video where the male owner was doing almost the same thing but at a greater distance, that was a better move i feel... the dog looked more focused and relaxed.

do you have any tips or future video for resource guarding toys with other dogs? my dogs fine with playing with other dogs but once someone brings out a ball, she will get aggressive n literally go up to the other dog and grab the ball straight out of their mouth and run away from them with the toy or snap at them for coming over but she's fine with people taking her toys, just not other dogs

Is this distracting the dog, or teaching her how to behave around other dogs? With this method, will she be able to act like a normal dog with other dogs, or just have something else to focus on?
